Cryptic Tonsils And Tonsolith Question

MrMark

I have recently learned that Tonsoliths are typically white objects or stones that are lodged in the tonsil crypts. I have gotten these nasty unwelcome tonsoliths many times. My question is: can tonsoliths be small black pea sized objects that are porous like pumice? Note: this object didn't originate where the other tonsoliths came from, but from somewhere a little lower in my throat. Does this 'thing' have a medical name? Any advice welcome. Sorry for the gross nature of this post. Thanks Mark

Mark the best way to identify this is to take one to your doctor. I would suggest, gross as this sounds putting it and a bit of your saliva in a small clean jar like a pill bottle and taking it in. He may need to send it to a lab if he feels it is something of concern.

I answered on the other one about this. I had those for years and years and I never had anything but white to off white colored ones. That said, the ent that took my tonsils said any type of matter can become lodged in there. He also said stuff can stay deep in the gland for quite a while. Gross indeed! Have you seen an ear, nose and throat dr? I would say they would be a lot more likely to have answers for you. I would agree that taking one in would be a huge help.

Good luck and post back what you find out!

Hi-

I have to tell you that I had the same issue (yucky white things in my throat....) for years. Along with that I had horrible bad breath. Two years ago I started getting chronic double ear infections and strep. I finally went to an ENT and after he looked at my throat he told me I had Cryptic tonsils and needed to have them out. The good news is since I had my tonsils out I have not had any problems with the tonsiliths,no sore throats, ear aches or even so much as a cold... but the bad news, aside from it being a miserable recovery for an adult, is the surgery triggered my celiac to become what it is today. I would definintely recommend seeing an ear nose and throat specialist. They may be able to help without doing surgery. But if I had to do it all over, even with getting celiac... I would get my tonsils out again. I feel so much better.

Good luck and hope you feel better!!!!

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
