I've been gluten free for about three weeks now and all of a sudden my skin is breaking out like crazy. I look like a teenager. Did anyone else have this happen when they went gluten free?

I believe you may be detoxifying through your skin, now that you have stopped eating a food that is poison to you. Hopefully it will clear up soon.

Yes. Anytime I have taken out an item for a diet test, I have had a break out if I was sensitive to it.

I agree with Ursa that this is most likely the case for you.

Incidently, I get this on a smaller scale when I'm accidently glutened--I get a breakout on my chin and cheek (one on each)--in the same place every time!

my acne picked up too now that I'm gluten-free - mild, but noticable :( .

good point on the it could be from getting glutened - we'll see, as I'm in the midst of a 3-week plain, whole food diet (partly delayed New Year's detox on the spouse's part), which should avoid the accidental glutenings (I can almost handle restaurants now, but  catered events I've vowed to eat first or eat my own food, cc from other diners is way too common in my unfortunate experience)

my theory was, if my immune system is healthier without all the gluten to deal with, maybe it has more energy to spend on acne - but that is not scientific at all :P

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
