Chemical Free Dry Cleaning?

Does anyone know of a way I can get a jacket dry cleaned without all the chemicals? I have this suit jacket that I wore a lot this winter to judge gymnastics meets. Now that the gymnastics season is over I figure I should get it cleaned. Of course it's dry clean only (probably should have checked that before I bought it! but nearly every jacket is dry clean anyway). I don't want to do traditional dry cleaning because of all the chemicals, but I'm not sure if there's some new chemical-free dry cleaning process out there or if there's a way I can wash it at home without ruining the look of it.

I hace been really lucky washing the wool ones in cold water with a mild soap and then air drying them on a hanger and then pressing them while still damp. So far no disasters, but I wouldn't do it too often.

I bet you can do it with most fabrics.

Good luck!

I think dry cleaning by definition is petroleum based rather than water based.

Look at the fabric content. I have washed things in cold water without anything going wrong, but it does depend on the fabric.

You can get soaps for cleaning wool at a yarn shop. They might have suggestions for other fibers as well. Or check with a fabric store.

You can try to get it "wet cleaned" from a dry cleaner using carbon dioxide rather than perc. Call a few and see if they do it - just make sure they get any smells out since its not as effective as the other kind:P

you can buy a dry cleaning alernative, and dry clean at home by yourself. I bought a device called FreshCloz, and did that at home, very convenient.

I suppose it really depends on why it is to be dry cleaned. Sometimes the item is not color fast and if you were to wash it, the colors would run. Sometimes it might shrink or stretch if washed.

If there are spots, you could try lightly cleaning them with cold water and baby shampoo. You might also try doing this under the arms. And it wouldn't hurt to put it in the dryer on "fluff" or "air" if you have such a setting. I don't.

We have Tide dry cleaners that are supposed to be environmentally friendly. I think there are couple of others here, too. Look for something like that maybe.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
