Gluten Free Cocoa?

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone here has been able to locate a gluten free high quality cocoa powder for baking? I was using one, got a reaction, called the company and said that they can't be sure of the gluten freeness of their products.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have used Hershey's cocoa in the past without problems. I did not call on the product to confirm gluten-free status. However, it is not high end!

I use Nestle's cocoa--never a problem :)

We use Open Original Shared Link.

Open Original Shared Link:

Question: I am a gluten-intolerant person (Celiac Sprue Disease), and would like to know which of your products are suitable for my gluten-free diet. Many preservatives, extracts, gums, etc., are sources of gluten because the process used to make those ingredients involve a gluten-containing grain of some kind.

Answer: According to our manufacturers, the following items are...

Gluten-Free:

Mix'n Drink, Buttermilk Blend, Baking Cocoa, Chunks, Dolci Frutta, and Kwik Kream.

Not Gluten-Free:

No Sugar Added Hot Cocoa, and the Regular Hot Cocoa.

I use Dagoba & Trader Joe's, one of them says gluten free right on the label but I can't remember which one.

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
