I am invited to a picnic on the 4th. Someone is bringing a prepackaged vegetable platter. Has anyone ever had issues?

When I go to things like that, I usually try to get my food first. That way I don't have to worry about cc from folks using utensils from other foods or even gluten-coated fingers. But otherwise, I have never had problem with the packaged fresh vegetables.

I suppose that would depend on where it came from. I have seen some from places like Redi-Pac (sp?) that would probably be safe. I think they only do fruit and vegetable trays. Or maybe only vegetable trays. If it is done up at a store, it might be made alongside sandwich platters. Could you find out where it came from? If from a store, you could call the store and see how they are done up.

It would also depend, if the person arranging the veggies washed their hands before touching the veggies. I know that a lot of people walk in the kitchen, wash their hands, & then touch a cookie & still consider that they have clean hands. Also, did they empty the veggies onto a cutting board (bread crumbs) before transferring to a platter.

If you want to be happy & have a good time - take your own food. It is just easier to start out that way & no one will question it. Just explain that it is like the peanut allergy - one whiff & you are done in.

I reacted to pre-sliced fruits about a month ago. Figured out that they were cut up right next to the baking area at Whole Foods. All that flour.....settles everywhere. So now I cut my own fruits and veggies after washing them.

Be safe. Pack your own food.

I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
