Negative Blood Results But Lots Of Symptoms.

Found this forum while browsing the web.

Finding it very interesting.

Celiacs runs in my family, mother, aunties and counsins all have it ( one counsin has a very severe version, that causes calcium deposits on the brain if she eats gluten).

Anyway I am the only female that it seems to have missed, but lately I have been thinking other wise. have had lots of strange things happening that are really starting to frustrate me.

Had the blood test it came back negative, but Iron levels were low and White blood cell count was up. ( has been like this for the last 3 years)

The white cell count it elevated but not high enough to indicate that some thing really bad it wrong apparently, but something is not wrong.

Have been getting bad reflux, have costocondritis, joint pain, seem to catch colds, and viruses easily. Have constant stomach upsets. Over christmas, had lots of headaches, dizzy spells and I am always tired.

I eat a healthy balance diet, and I am not under weight.

Has anyone had the blood test come back negative, but then had a positive biopsy?

I had negative bloodwork, but a positive response to the diet. :)

The only TRUE proof is in the diet.

False negatives do happen with the blood panel, and the biopsy can also indicate that there is no damamge when there really is - - it just gets missed by the camera/knife. As ShayFL has said, the only truly accurate diagnostic tool is dietary response.

My bloodtest was negative desite having all the classic symptoms and a first degree relative with it (my son). I have had a very positive response from the diet.

Those that had the negative blood test did you then go on to have the biopsy though? Ot just change the diet?

Obviously changing a diet to include no gluten is a massive step.

Might have the biopsy then see what that comes back as.

negative bloodwork

strong dietary reaction

no intention of going for biopsy - Dr. think's I'm fine, is okay with my diet. Have 2 cousins, one w/pos blood & biopsy, one (genetic half sister as our mothers identical twins) pos blood, never had biopsy.

Going for a biopsy is your decision. Not that the rest of us won't share our 2-cents worth ;)

My theory is that my body was telling me something, and I may have self-diagnosed before there was too much permanent damage. So I would be surprised if a biopsy found anything in my gut. But I know the diet has had a huge impact on my health.

Good luck!

My husband had negative blood work, a negative biopsy, and a highly positive stool test through Enterolab - - numbers off the charts. He also has had a resounding response to the gluten-free diet. Essentially, his blood numbers were misread/inaccurately done, the intestinal damage (if there was any) was missed, but his stool was full of the antibodies.

Crazy, but true....and not uncommon, as you quickly realize the more you read here......

I have seen several postings on different forums about blood tests being negative yet biopsies being positive.

By the way, what blood tests did you have? Are you eating enough gluten for the tests to be positive? One needs to eat at least 0,3 grams gluten per kg, which would normally be about 21 grams of pure gluten and the protein in wheat is about 90% glutan they say and you have to read the labels to add it all up to see if you have had enough gluten .

My daughter was officially diagnosed with negative blood tests and biopsy. She had to go back on a gluten challenge for the tests. She had been ill for years, and had had doctors etc.

She had an almost immediate improvement off gluten, so it was easy to figure out.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.
