it's 1/2 the lowest dose.

maybe i'm not taking enough.

i just want to calm down to get things done so i can move forward.

thanks for letting me vent.

I used to take 5 mg valium but just before bed. It really helped. I have idiosyncratic reactions to lots of stuff, the opposite of what they are supposed to do. Sleeping pills keep me awake, anti-depressants make me depressed, etc., so try not to take anything new.

Good for you, for keeping busy.

Hi Judy, how are you today? I used to take Xanax all the time, but it made me feel really high. I couldnt even hold a conversation when I was taking that. So I started to take it at night and would split the pill in 1/2 and that helped me out a lot for the next day. Only reason why I dont have it now is because I lost my health insurance when I moved. I tried to get a refill before I left and the dr just had to schedule an appointment and I didnt have the time for it. I never took it anyway, only in an emergency lol.

Sorry to hear about your allergies, the news here gives us daily reports on that lol.

How much longer until you move to Temecula? Dont work to hard!

I wanted to share with everyone here that I am going to quit smoking. I figured if I could stop eating gluten I can stop smoking. It is going to be rough, at least I know what to expect when I give something up that I some what enjoy.

Giving up gluten was hard and still is, I do miss it so. I know it will be the same, I can do this. It bugs me everyday that I can stop eating gluten for something that effects me now, but cant stop smoking when I know it will effect me later.

I have been smoking for almost 13 years now, almost half my life. I can see myself without them now, so I decided to take a step forward and let them go.

I know this is support for Celiac, but I am going to need support in both areas now. Please wish me luck, I will need it =)

I am trying to handle my stress, it can be tough. I have been reading a bit on meditation, trying to clear the mind, etc. Has anyone tried that? I think it would be good to do that for yourself.

I just have to remind myself that I should only be doing 1 thing at a time lol. Baby steps. I dont really crave smoking anymore, which is nice. I kicked it, I am proud of myself. Just sometimes I wonder if it was worth it since I have noticed a change in my moods, etc.

TOMORRO IS MY BIG DAY! Tomorro, I will be a non-smoker. I AM SCARED TO DEATH! But, I am going to do it- even if it kills me. I have the patches, lots of snacks and gum, and I'm going to spend the day with my non-smoking daughters going to non-smoking places. I'd say wish me luck, but I think determination is what I need. So- wish me determination! Will keep you posted. Susan

Susan, you can do this! Yes it is going to take willpower. If you have mentally prepared yourself I think you will do good. Tell yourself you are a non smoker and you always have been. The patch will help with the nicotine withdrawl but you will have to fight the routine. Change it up a bit =)

We are rooting for you! Let us know how you are doing, we are here for you =)

Also i was the queen of MULTI TASKING............ :P

A day and a half smoke free! I really want to thank you all for your supportive messages - they really help. I'm doing pretty good. It's just every once in a while, I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE! LOL! And, I'm a very mild mannered person. I will say, though, about an hour ago, my Dh came home from work and went outside to smoke ( he's quitting, too) and I didn't go with. So, I'm proud of myself for that. Decided to come here instead. He hasn't smoked all day, so I'll let it go. As long as he's trying, but it doesn't depend on him, anyway. I quit. Thanks all!

so proud of you Susan

So glad you didn't join him and came and typed.

i used to smoke the most at the computer in the closed us room so had to stay off the computer for awhile but now it's better don't even think of it during the day

late a nite still do

was thinking........maybe the 2 packs of cigs sitting where i left them Dec 23---(on top of the computer storage) is my sence of power over quitting.

like Jen said..........you are not trying to quit smoking, you HAVE quit smoking is the attitude to have

I think i have that attitude now.

ha after 4 months ;)

Up date

forgot to add

Had a barium swallow test yesterday am and think the dx was laryngopharyngeal reflux

Dr called late and i just couldn't take it all in .......ususally i can and he's really careful to make it clear but think we both were so tired....

He called in some levsin to put under my tongue when the choking starts. so far today i haven't had it

i don't really have the acid reflux but more a spasming of the esophagus and then where that and stomach meet

only mentioning this b/c it said on Internet the worse thing other than all the rest I've given up is

PEPPERMENT........AS IN PEPPERMINT ALITOIDS...............GOD

NOW SUCKING SPIRMENT LOSINGERS I WAS USING BEFORE....BETTER THAN PEPPERMINT

anyone know about this?

Congrats on your quit =) You are doing good, glad we have been able to help you out so far. Remember there are quit support sites too just incase no one is here to talk to.

I found this article on msn.com today:

The Link Between Anger and Nicotine Use

Angry? Ready to blow a fuse? Nicotine is the crutch many people use to get a grip. Not the best route for anger management, obviously, but a new study by the University of California in Irvine explains why many individuals are particularly susceptible to the craving for and physical effects of nicotine.

Apparently, nicotine may offer a way to curb emotions like anger by altering the activity of our brain responsible for reducing negative emotions. So, the study implies that someone who

It can be used to calm a person or stimulate them depending on the dose and timing of the intake."

Boy I sure agree with this anger issue. Thanks for sharing.

How are you doing Susan?

Jen you seem to be over the hump and mushroom seems good also

thanks for starting this thread Jen

msmini14 Enthusiast

You are all very welcome. And I have to say thank you too for all the support that was given to me. We are all lucky to have this site to come too. I have been coming here everyday since I joined and it has been a huge help to me.

I am still very surprised to this day that I accomplished this. I now understand that if I really want to do something I can. The mind is very powerful and sometimes it takes something like this to know that.

I feel for people who struggle with this, it is not easy. It can be done though. You need support of your loved ones and friends. My soon to be dh has helped me out every step of the way and I am so lucky to have him.

Susan I really hope your dh quits soon. Dont let his smoking tamper with your quit. You did a great job staying inside the house.

Judy, you can do this too =) Do you still crave them?

I had a crave yesterday but no desire to smoke, not sure how to explain it.

ranger Enthusiast

Day 5 and it sounds like we are all doing pretty good. I caved Sat. night and smoked 1, but didn't beat myself up about it, and got right back on the horse. I did ask my DH to smoke outside till I felt more comfy with it, and he agreed. My problem is that I don't know how to sit down and take a break without a c. Yesterday, I worked and worked and worked till I couldn't anymore. Today, I'm going to force myself to take a couple of breaks without the c. Practice makes perfect, right? I don't feel much physical withdrawal - more like habit withdawal! Hope we all make it.

I do too at times but not to really smoke. i think it's the patterning we are dealing with now.

congrats Susan esp. with a smoker int he house.

and so glad you 'got back on the horse'

Habit withdrawl is what I think lingers awhile.

I esp. miss a smoke after a long time of working outside or packing.

i hate cleaning so ALWAYS feel i need a reward afterwards.

good luck everyone

You can do it! My husband quit and restarted smoking three times before he quit 6 years ago for good. I am confident it is for good as when he decided to quit that last time he said "I am ready to quit"...the other times he was "trying to quit".

He has never felt so good...he did put on some weight at first...but our young sons at the time had a motto..."i'd rather have a fat daddy, then a dead daddy" since then he has felt better so exercised more...this past year he started cycling and is up to 30-50 mile rides and every so often mentions that there is no way he could have gotten in shape if he was still smoking.

Good Luck to you!

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis after years of suffering without answers. I lost my mind. I lost my job. I lost so much time. I lost Me. Conventional doctors are opulent come near me and the one who did sat across the room, misdiagnosed me, pumped me full of steroids which collapsed my entire hip for 6 months. So without answers I began my holistic journey. Fast forward a couple of years and still struggling with a mysterious whole body itchy, crawling “skin hell”, perfect teeth now deteriorating, thick hair now thinning rapidly and no more than a day or 2 at most relief….An acquaintance opened up a functional medicine practice. Cash only, I found a way. Within a month tests clearly showing my off the charts gluten allergy/sensitivity as well as the depletion of vital nutrients due to leaky gut and intestinal damage. dermatitis herpetiformis was more than likely what I was experiencing with my skin. I was happy. I thought this is easy, eat healthy Whole Foods, follow the diet restrictions and I finally get to heal and feel confident and like myself again very soon! 😔 Supplements are very pricey but I got them and began my healing. Which leads to the other major issue: not working, stay at home Mom of young kids, entirely financially dependent on my man of 7 plus years. He’s never been supportive of anything I’ve ever done or been thru. He controls everything. I’m not given much money ever at a time and when he does leave money it’s only enough to possibly get gas. His excuse is that I’ll spend it on other things. So my “allowance” is inconsistent and has conditions. He withholds money from me as punishment for anything he wants. Since being diagnosed, he’s gained a new control tactic to use as punishment. He now is in control of when I get to eat. He asked for proof of my diagnosis and diet bc he said I made it up just to be able to eat expensive organic foods. Then after I sent him my file from my doctor he then said she wasn’t a real doctor. 😡. I go days upon days starving, sometimes breaking down and eating things I shouldn’t bc I’m so sick then I pay horribly while he gets annoyed and angry bc I’m not keeping up with all the duties I’m supposed to be doing. His abuse turns full on when I’m down and it’s in these desperate times when I need his support and care the most that I’m punished with silence, being starved, ignored, belittled. He will create more of a mess just bc I’m unable to get up and clean so that when I am better, I’m so overwhelmed with chores to catch up that the stress causes me to go right back into a flare from hell and the cycle repeats. I’m punished for being sick. I’m belittled for starving and asking for healthy clean water. I’m purposely left out of his life. He won’t even tell me he’s going to the grocery or to get dinner bc he doesn’t want me to ask him for anything. I have no one. I have nothing. Im not better. My supplements ran out and I desperately need Vitamin D3 and a methylated B complex at the very minimal just to function….he stares at me blankly…no, a slight smirk, no words. He’s happiest when im miserable and I am miserable.  this is so long and im condensing as much as I can but this situation is so complicated and disgusting. And it’s currently my life. The “IT” girl, the healthy, beautiful, perfect skin, perfect teeth, thick and curly locks for days, creative and talented IT girl….now I won’t even leave this house bc Im ashamed of what this has dont to my body, my skin. Im disgusted. The stress is keeping me from healing and I think he knows that and that’s why he continues to keep me in that state. He doesn’t want me confident or successful. He doesn’t want me healed and healthy bc then how would he put the blame of all his problems on me? This journey has been hell and I’ve been in Hell before. I’ve been killed by an ex, I’ve been raped, robbed, held hostage, abused beyond nightmares but the cruelty I’ve experienced from him bc of this disease is the coldest I’ve ever experienced. I’ve wanted to give up. Starving and in tears, desperate…I found a local food pantry in our small town so I reached out just saying I had Celiac and was on hard times. This woman is blessing me daily with prepared gluten free meals, donations, educational info, people who know this disease and how they manage life and the blessings just keep coming. But it’s overwhelming and I feel like I don’t deserve it at all. He just glared and I know he’s going to sabotage it somehow. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’m so broken and just want peace and healing.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana
