Gluten Jerks

Ever since I was first diagnosed I have had some pretty mean things occur to me. I have gotten bread thrown at me, bread stuffed into my mouth, gotten told I had to sit somewhere else at lunch, had my food thrown away, and had and at an assembly a teacher was making fun of having wheat allergies in a skit!! That was 6-8th grade (middle school). I am now in 10th grade and have definitly gotten use to standing up for us gluten-free amazing people!! I have done many projects/awarness for my town! So instead of eating what was thrown/waved around in my face, people are cool with celiac disease!! They just think that Im that girl who cant eat anything!! haha. Well today, thinking my teasing days were over, I had a "friend" of mine take a goldfish and say "Im going to shove this in your mouth and make you die!!!" my best friend and others could jump on him before I could. But I couldnt believe it!!! It was pretty strange. So I just needed to vent out my feelings about how mean someone could be. BUT make sure you can stick up for yourself! Because when stupid stuff like this happens its good to be brave. And to not go along with the teasing!!

Wow! I am sorry that you have had to experience these negative things. My 11 year old son hasn't experienced anything like this (yet). Good for you to try to raise awareness to do something about it. Hope it gets better.

Hey Kim! You are BRAVE indeed!!!!!!

MAYBE your other "friends" will grow up some day and remember what flaming jerks they were. And if not, you already know that.

Yes, I agree and that teacher ought to be ashamed of herself! I'm really sorry you have had to put up with such ignorance.

Wow I swear Kids and adults these days... Act like they have never been taught Respect. I want to know where you live so I can never live there... But my guess is that you live in either New York or California! sounds like the kind of people that are in California... haha I can say that Because I live there. Well hang in there life will get better... Cant say that the people will get better, but you'll learn to deal with them better as you get older. Good luck!

Wow...It sounds like you live in hell...Those people who did those things to you are human trash, and are definitely not representative of most people out there. Kids can be cruel, but those who are, grow up to be scared, pathetic losers. I never experienced anything like that before, but I was 21 when I was diagnosed. But that teacher should be fired for what she did. People need to be disciplined if they don't know how to respect others. Especially when they make fun of people with serious medical conditions. I'm so sorry that you had to deal with that. Hopefully you won't ever have to deal with scum like that again.

Our kids are now home schooled in part because because the teachers ignored our requests that our children eat gluten free. A cupcake one day, a piece of cake another day. The bottom line is at least two teachers in our youngest daughters school were deceitful liers. We concluded that we just could not trust the school system with our children.

Anyways Kim, I admire you. Keep strong and keep posting here. You're an inspiration.

Did your parents know about this abuse? As I realize that kids sometimes

don't tell their parents as they are embarassed and don't want to get

anyone in trouble at school.

Sometimes I think that high schoolers are so mean!! The bad thing is, these incidents have shown you that it doesn't always stop there (I.e. your teacher in the skit)....I hope that these people shape up! There are good people out there, and I'm sorry you've had to deal with such mean ones! Hang in there and keep on smiling!!! The thing that probably bothers them the most is you not acting like this stuff gets to you!! You're such a strong person!

Wow, was I that brave at your age? Not even close, you are my new hero for standing up to bullies and teaching others. Thank your compassionte friends for standing by you. They're the ones who wil be with you a lifetime. The bullies, students and teachers, will go through life afraid, insecure and unhappy. I'm proud of you and glad you shared your story.

This is so sad. My biggest fear is sending my son to school. I can't believe a school would allow this to go on let alone contribute to it. I am so sorry. You are very brave to stand up for your self and others.

Some of those kids should have gotten in trouble. Shoving gluten in a celiac's mouth? That's a major safety issue and putting your health at risk. Not something to be taken lightly.

That is a huge mistake that we make. Just because the student knew the attackers and the attack took place in a school, does not mean this wasn't a crime. I don't know the legal terms but I have heard of assault with a deadly weapon.

Yes. I have heard of deaths when Celiac was listed as the cause. One was Kid Rock's close friend and one was a 14 year old boy.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
