Pittsburgh's Gluuteny

We traveled from Wheeling, WV to go to Gluuteny in Shadyside area of Pittsburgh. I thought on their website that the prices seemed steep. Well... $85 later...hey, I'm a cook not a baker.

We went home and opened up our bags. The $1.59 cookie? It was huge! I cut it into 4 pieces, so the hubby and kids could take in their lunches.

And the brownies? None of the mixes from the stores even come close. Yummy. And they were huge, too.

The pumpkin pie was a little pricy at $14.99, but its for Thanksgiving so I hope it's good.

The cupcakes were pretty good--a little pricey at $2.49--but hey I didn't have to make it did I?

My husband thought the iced sugar cookies were better than regular sugar cookies.

The bread is just all right--what I make from the Gluten Free pantry mix might be just a tad better IMHO.

My husband's birthday is in about 1 month and I can't wait to buy a cake for his birthday from this place!

I hear they're looking to franchise... B)

An acquaintance of mine who also has celiac has a sister in that area. She's trying desparately to get me to open a franchise in our area. I am also not a baker, but it would be great if they start appearing elsewhere in the country.

I saw they were looking to franchise, too. Was wondering how difficult it would be to run a bakery if one does not bake?

Husband thinks we could make a go of it....might be worth investigating...

Hi,

I see you are from Wheeling, WV my family and I live in St. Clairsville, Ohio. I have a lot of recipes, (that are EASY) for cakes, cookies, etc. Where do you buy your gluten free products from ? Do you go to whole foods in Pittsburgh ?

Take Care

There is also a new natural-foods market that just opened up in the Strip District. They are trying to compete with Whole Paycheck I mean Whole Foods, and they are amazing--much BIGGER than whole foods, AND less $$. Their produce could use some expanding, but it's SO nice not to have to fight traffic to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

They said that they are working with someone to supply them with fresh gluten-free baked goods so that they can have an on-site gluten-free bakery. I wonder if they're working with Gluuteny? I had the impression that the baked goods would not be baked on-site, but delivered fresh (not frozen!) daily, kind of like what Breadworks does.

They're located at 23rd and Smallman, in the Cork Factory building, if anyone is interested.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
