Help! Newly Gluten And Dairy Free...

So I just found out that I have celiac about two months ago, and I'm getting my lactose test on Jan 6. but it's quite clear that I can't eat dairy either without getting sick.

I'm 20 years old, 5'2'' and about 105lbs. Dairy is a staple part of my diet, especially since I found out I can't have gluten. I want to start feeling better and cut the dairy from my diet, but I can't afford to lose weight in the process.

Any good food/product ideas (that taste good)? Thank you!

Focus on high-quality calories... eggs, coconut milk (coconut oil is great for cooking), olive oil, nuts, seeds, nut butters, avocado, etc... Even if you can tolerate non-gluten grains (like corn, rice, millet, soy), they don't have as many nutrients and your body has to work pretty hard to digest them.

ps - Last night I made a pretty convincing substitute for a milk shake :P

- One can of coconut milk (full fat)

- 2-3 cups of frozen fruit (I used strawberries and peaches)

- A little almond milk to thin it out

- A little pure maple syrup to sweeten

Give at all a good run through the blender... if you use frozen fruit you don't even need to add ice cubes.

I was really missing ice cream before I figured this out!

Peanut Butter is a great high calorie food. There are also some AWESOME Coconut milk and soy ice creams out there. Kinnikinnick makes excellent gluten free/casein (dairy) free breads, bagels, muffins, cookies, pizza crusts, etc.... For cream cheese and sour cream, I recommend Tofutti brand substitutes. Soy yogurt is good with a Nana's cookie bar crumbled in it. Lara bars are raw, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, etc... Loaded nachos (with dairy free sour cream and cheese) offer some serious calories. Good luck! I am in the same boat. I am 5'3" and 107 lbs. so I completely understand.

My sister is like that too. In college she spent a semester in Ireland. Someone told her that the Irish think peanut butter is weird... so she packed several jars in her suitcase

You know... in Southeast Asia and West Africa, people do a lot of interesting things with peanuts. Peanut butter makes a nice addition to soup or tomato sauce. Just add a few spoonfuls when the liquid is boiling. You have to add quite a bit before you really taste the peanuts :P

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
