Who has it? Who doesn't? Who wants more? Who wants it to stop? How much do you have? Any great, difficult, scary, memories you want to share???

We have about 8" of new snow since yesterday and the weather man says it's going to snow all week. I think we got the storm that Rachelle and Juliebove just got in Washington. I'm in Idaho. Last year my neighbor measured the entire amount of snow and recorded 123" for the winter. That's the most we've had in about 10 yrs. When we first moved here, in the mtns, we got 16" in one night and we were living in a 5th wheel w/o any plumbing. I got so tired of moving it off the roof. We still have to move it everytime it snows but I am so thankful for a house! Happy Holidays to all!!! :)

My counters are FULL of cookies right now. My laundry is finally caught up and the house is clean. Now what the heck am I going to do for the next few days??!! I'll try to post pics of the cookies. We went outside this evening and there's about 6" of snow, 1/2" layer of ice and another 2" of snow on top of that, so my son and I are getting ready to race-he's on the packed street and I'm in the deep stuff, trying to high step and get a little workout. I say, "ready, set, GO!" and as I start to run, the ice doesn't break and I fell right into it, catching myself with my arm as it crashed thru the ice slicing my wrist open--no stiches needed. I was laughing so hard to notice it was hurt and bleeding. Thank goodness no one else was out there to see me  At least my cookies turned out really good!

We have over a foot of it here and I'm sick of it! This is our third storm in a row. I was able to stock up for the first two, but not this one. And we had a rat or mouse in the garage.

Husband went out for food today. I wanted more, but was afraid he would buy stuff we couldn't use, given our food allergies. I just gave him a short list. Aerosol cheese, bananas, celery, ground beef and some cookies to put out for Santa. He called me and was confused about the aerosol cheese and didn't know what ground beef was. Gah!

Then he got the car stuck in the snow when trying to pull into the driveway. I was freaking. We live just past a curve in the road and it's very dangerous the way in normal conditions.

I haven't been able to get the mail for days. I'm expecting a package of something to put in my stocking and it has been delayed. Expecting a present for daughter and that hasn't come. We can't get to my parent's house for Christmas and are not sure when we'll get to celebrate given no end in sight to the snow. And I have nothing special to fix for Christmas dinner. Only the stuff to make a tuna casserole that I was going to make for lunch on Christmas day when my parents were supposed to come over. But they are stuck at their house too.

Daughter told me a story today and talk about miscommuniction. She said my parents were so out of food that my dad had to bake a cake and that was all they had left. Turns out my mom just told him to bake it because he was driving her nuts and it would give him something to do. She did add that they had only enough food for another 2-3 days. A neighbor with chains got out and got them some milk and eggs.

I have plenty of baking goods, and a few cases of canned vegetables. Will probably make a pot of soup tomorrow with the ground beef and celery, much to my daughter's dismay. I know she won't like it. She has been bitterly complaining about the food I made. I noticed that she ate her whole tuna sandwich, despite all the whining.

And I had another idiotic moment today when I caught my husband on a step stool on the ice with three phone books on top, on his tip toes trying to change a lightbulb. He cut his hand. Gah!

He has to go to work tomorrow because he's in the military. He said some people had to walk 6 to 7 miles to get transportation.

But probably the worst part of this is that they didn't pick up the garbage or recycling. Normally I would put that out in the garage, but not with the mouse or rat in there. It's piling up fast and our normal night to put it out is Wed. I know they won't be picking it up on Thu.

I'm on the eastside of Seattle, and we've got about 9.5". It's still snowing. It'll keep snowing tonight too. I'm looking at over a grand of repairs to my car thanks to ice on the roadway and cars stopped there (when I couldn't stop behind them due to the ice) and can't get out skiing on the slopes, but other than that, it's been fun.

I skiied up my street today: Open Original Shared Link

I went sledding in my backyard: Open Original Shared Link

I made snow angels at a near by park: Open Original Shared Link

And we played with the neighborhood dog: Open Original Shared Link

Of course, we're on vacation, so we don't have anywhere we need to go.

It's getting annoying to be stuck at home, but there's a grocery store in walking distance.

We'll see if the injured AWD Subie (and cables, if necessary) will get me to my doctors appointments and vet appointments tomorrow, or if they've been cancelled. (Everything's shutting down.)

Tiffany, your dog is so cute trying to get your arm as you're trying to make a snow angel! and i love your hat...was that a hole in the back for your ponytail that i saw?

we've had about 20 or so inches in the past week - 3 storms total. i'm not working right now so i can just sit inside and admire the pretty snow and not have to worry much about driving in it. then wait for my boyfriend to shovel me out and the plows to do their job and i'm golden!

We have had lots of it. It is pretty but my body is way to old for all the shoveling. I am really thankful that everything is done but we have already had one family member who won't be here for the holidays because of the weather. As much as I want to see my DD I am really fearful of her driving home this holiday.

We have a mall not to far from here where folks got stuck in the parking lot for up to 3 hours just trying to get out. Parking of course was hopeless and you would think when people coming there got a look at the parking lot they would have kept driving but noooooo. They tried to pull in anyway making left hand turns at the light and blocking traffic from both sides while they inched into the mall drive. My DS started to go in and immediately got into the exit lane when he realized what was happening and it still took him an hour just to get out. They finally got police and mall cops to try and bring order and get things flowing but traffic was snarled for hours as 40,000 people all tried to get their shopping finished Saturday between the storms. Makes me glad I shop early and local.

Tiffany- Thanks for the pictures. It looks like you had a lot of fun.

I REALLY REALLY want it to stop snowing and start melting! :o Normally I would welcome snow. I live in Portland Oregon. Normally we might see a couple wimpy snow showers a year at best. Now we have over a foot! I'm going crazy stuck in my house. I have been making cookies and candy, and my family has postponed Christmas. :( DH's family is having Christmas, and four extra children are coming and I have not been able to get out and buy them gifts. DH was also been unable to work very much since we works outside, and he was no vacation hours left and no paid holidays.

We have a lot of snow here in mid michigan, but the most difficult thing to cope with is the cold! Last night the wind chill was -12. It seems too early for this kind of cold and snow. :( Dh goes out every morning and plows paths in the yard for our little poodles :D Little Toby is only 4.5 lbs! The little guys do seem to appreciate it.

Tiffany....I loved your pictures. They made me smile. Thanks for sharing them.

I'm just south of Seattle and we usually don't get much snow. We all get excited to see an inch or so. But now we have a foot or more. Luckily, most of my Christmas shopping is done and I stocked up on food before the biggest snow hit. I don't have enough gluten-free flour mix, so we probably can't make our gingerbread house, which is really sad. When we were out the other night we tried stopping at the HFS, but they closed early, so no chance to get any flours. DH needs the car to get to work (only 6-7 minutes away, fortunately) and I won't drive the mini van in this much snow.

We are all having fun playing outside and walked a mile to the nearest hill to sled last night. We discovered that walking through 9-12 inch snow is a really good workout!

My mom won't be able to make the (normally) 45 minute drive down on Christmas morning, which is another sad thing about the snow, but we're hoping that we can make it up there in the afternoon to be with my family. Christmas Eve is at my in-laws, which is only 2-1/2 miles away, so we should be able to get there just fine.

The weather forecasts are contradictory - there's supposed to be another snow storm coming in on Tuesday night, but no one agrees on what the temperatures will be like on Wednesday and Thursday. I've seen everything from 34 to 39, which makes a big difference in how much snow and ice will melt from the streets.

The youth pastor at church made an interesting comment yesterday about how people sing and dream about a white Christmas, but that the harsh reality is often not what we expect.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I am loving the snow!!

I'm west of Seattle and we have about a foot. No, I can't leave my house, except on foot, but it's all so pretty, and such a rare occurrence, that I don't mind at all.

I live in CT, and I don't mind the snow at all. We have good plowers, and if you just are patient you'll be able to get out on the road. I'll grant that they weren't completely prepared this weekend, but hey. And my boyfriend has a snowblower, GOD he loves that thing! He just tools around outside, has so much fun. And when he does it while it's still snowing he looks like the abominable snowman, he's so tall (think I found our yeti!)

My vent about the snow? DRIVERS. You know, this is CT. It happens every year, folks! Could we STOP being SURPRISED every year!?!?!?! I swear, the first storm of every year the entire population of CT drops 40 IQ points and turns into IDIOTS. I can't tell you how many accidents we've had. It's some stupid number like over 400 separate incidents this past weekend. And most of those involved more than two vehicles. I go to work at 6 o'clock in the morning. This morning, it was less than ten degrees out. And the road was wet from all the ice and snow and slush. I have enough sense to GO SLOWER. Not so for the IDIOT SUV DRIVERS going 15 MILES over the speed limit!!!!!!!

You should have to pass an IQ test to drive on the road.

I feel better.

Bahaha :] I feel the same way...then again, we're not use to snow here in TN.

I love the snow because it rarely snows here expect on the plateau. It was a senior year miracle! We got snow days lol right before exams, too. Big stress relief.

Well, yeah, I wouldn't expect a lot of snow in Tenn. But then they probably don't drive OVER the speed limit when there's ICE all over the road, now do they?!?!?! On their cell phones! With 6-inch piles of snow still on top of their cars!!!! With little 2-foot circles scraped off their windshields!!!!!

I live in a small town outside Salem, Oregon and I HATE snow!! HATE!! Our town has no plans for keeping the roads clear in any way, so I haven't been able to go anywhere for a week!! Things here haven't thawed at all, they've gotten worse. Sunday I woke to find a solid inch of ice on everything. It took 2 kettles of hot water to open my car door so I could back it up away from our leaning tree (which thankfully didn't break). DH has had to walk out to the main road and ride in to work with a friend (he could take vacation time, but she can't so if she gets stuck we didn't want her to be stuck alone) today to drive on the road into Salem (finally reopened, when it got bad they simply closed it and waited for a thaw). There is about 1/2 inch of solid ice on the road, covered by snow. Oh and no chains to be found...... I've lived in the Willamette Valley my whole life, RAIN I can deal with, but snow? Who are we kidding here!?!?!?!

I'm a housewife so I don't leave the house much anyway, but not being ABLE to leave... it's driving me crazy!!!

JNBunny: I know how you feel, in Oregon we get TONS of rain. It rains from September-May here. You'd think SOME of the people would remember how to drive in the rain from LAST year. But if you thought that, you'd be wrong.

I continue to play in the snow. First, I tried to Open Original Shared Link, and Open Original Shared Link, but it wasn't designed well, so it kept Open Original Shared Link.

Then the dog continues to Open Original Shared Link, Open Original Shared Link, Open Original Shared Link, and Open Original Shared Link the cul-de-sac.

We also went snowshoeing in the neighborhood, made muffins, and did laundry.

Getting an estimate on the damage to my car today was far less fun. :( But roads are drivable with AWD at the moment, if not exactly the first thing I'd choose to do.

I thought we were in the clear. I actually drove yesterday, which is a big deal for me (in the snow). We took the kids sledding and I think I had just as much fun as they did! Then I wake up about 20 minutes ago to get ready to drive north ~30 miles and it's a blizzard out there right now. We've tried every day calling to try to find chains in this city and no one has ANY. I really hope we're not stuck here today-I'm going freakin crazy!!!

I know this doesn't help now, but keep looking for chains. Even when the snow lets up, even if you think you're in the clear - get chains, and keep them in the car. (We got stuck during the '06 storm and had to walk the last mile home after parking at the bottom of the hill because we had just gotten chains - *and then left them in the garage*!) They don't have to be expensive, but they're like having a first aid kit in the car - just something you always have in there. (We also didn't think we'd need them at first, and had to run around and specially order ones that would fit our car.)

A bag of sand or cat litter helps too. I unstuck my truck yesterday by making a path of kitty gritty behind the tires.

It also helps to have a small shovel (my dh has one in his snow mobile) and a cheap bag of cat litter. Oops, I see Jestgar already said that.

We have lots of snow here in Wisconsin!!! We've had three good storms in the last week-1 foot of snow last Friday, 6 inches on Sunday, 6 inches yesterday, and today we are getting about four of the wet heavy stuff. And of course our snow blower died during the first big storm!!

Anyway, it is beautiful Christmas snow!

Merry Christmas all!

We had 11" of recent snow Christmas eve morning. I cooked all day, while it snowed, so food was all done...no cooking on Christmas..YAY! I measured the new snow on Christmas morning and we got a new 14" making it 2' now. I spent almost 3 hours on Christmas...pushing, pulling and shoveling snow while my dh was plowing it. Sure glad I didn't have to cook!! Then we took food to my dd, an hour away. The roads were a bit icy but really icy on the way home.

This accident was like "hanging by a thread":

We saw a pick-up hanging by a wire. It had jumped the curb and got caught on a support wire to a telephone pole and "slid" up it so the only thing touching the ground was 1 tire. It just hung there while the man was inside and couldn't get out. We missed the accident by less than 5 minutes. A fire truck arrived as we were passing by and the police were already there.

It was 2 degrees this morning and too cold to move more snow...sigh...so glad.

I am mixing up leftover peas, turkey and new gravy to dump on the leftover stuffing. Not much cooking today. More snow is coming tomorrow so I will make a crock pot of chili for us to eat in between snow moving.

I'd go with a vodka tonic, but that's just me😉

That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
