Hi everyone,

I've been resisting posting because 1.) I don't want to complain when I've done so well for so long overall. ( 3 years) and, 2.) I've been desperately hoping things would get better, BUT, I'm really not well again and it's now lasting into 2 weeks! (It's not abating at all)

When I hear hoofbeats I think horses and these really are gluten symptoms: Big left side pain, bloating and abdominal pain, left hip pain- countless weird bowel symptoms on and on... and I CAN'T FIND THE GLUTEN! I'm starting to wonder if I'm just suddenly sick with some other hideous thing, but these symptoms have always been VERY specific to gluten for me.

The only processed foods I eat routinely are: Planter's almonds and cashews, Fage Greek yogurt and Cab cheddar cheese and McCormick spices. Does anyone know if these items are still safe or not? Or Tom's of Maine toothpaste?(I do NOT have a problem with dairy) I feel like I'm right back at the beginning and my food log is not shedding light right now. Eat only at home, cook ourselves, eat whole foods... any thoughts?

Is it possible that if wheat is outside (rabbit pellets in compost) that the wind could blow some gluten my way? I'm reaching..... HELP?

Thank you,

lisa

My son and I have had problems with McCormicks spices. I have had more luck buying the whole spices and grinding them myself, and buying leaf spices fresh.

If nothing has changed in your diet, you might consider going to the doc to get it checked out. Left side abdominal pain is why they stuck me in a CT.

Thank you both. Tarnalberry, I'm numb- what is a CT?

It sounds a heck of a lot like diverticular disease. And it is diagnoced with a ct scan and a high white blood cell count.

Hi Lisa,

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this again :(

This is my experience with McCormick--I know they are generally considered safe for us and all, but they are made in a facility that processes wheat and do not use dedicated lines. That is not to downgrade them in any way, but it's a fact that I confirmed with the company. Like with any company, there will be some of us who just can't tolerate their products--for whatever reason. I used them exclusively, but twice now, I've noticed that their onion powder has affected me.

I use other things from them like cinnamon and garlic powder--but I'm certain that the onion powder is somehow problematic for me. Maybe I got batches made right after a blend with wheat (but, twice?), I don't know--but since stopping it, I have cut out the mystery D that would pop up for seemingly no reason.

I used it quite frequently, too. Now, I have taken to using fresh onion if I want that flavor--not as convenient, but I have most definitely seen a marked difference. I stick my neck out here, because so many regard it as safe, but I know how sensitive you are, as am I.

PS--Isn't Fage the most delicious thing? :D I've been able to tolerate dairy again (after cutting it out for 5 years!), and started with the Fage after reading here how much you liked it. Now I'm hooked! Thank you!! :D

Patti,

Thank you! I only use the ground sage, dill, basil and oregano but I'm going to stop all of it now thanks to you and see if I can turn this corner. Neesee, thank you- I have been rolling over the diverticulosis thing in my mind but yellow stool (lovely, I know) is a very specific gluten symptom for me and I have it in spades. I guess I'll have to succumb to the doctor soon.

Thank you all,

lisa

Lisa--I hope it's something as simple as cross contamination. Please let me know how you do :)

Yellow Stool

Yellow stool can indicate that food is passing through the digestive tract relatively quickly. Yellow stool can be found in people with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Symptoms of GERD include heartburn, chest pain, sore throat, chronic cough, and wheezing. Symptoms are usually worse when lying down or bending. Foods that can worsen GERD symptoms include peppermint, fatty foods, alcohol, coffee, and chocolate.

Yellow stool can also result from insuffient bile output. Bile salts from the liver gives stool its brownish color. When bile output is diminished, it often first appears as yellow stool. If there is a greater reduction in bile output, stool lose almost all of its color, becoming pale or grey.

If the onset is sudden, yellow stool can also be a sign of a bacterial infection in the intestines.

Thanks, Patti, I really feel yucky and it's no fun at work! Yes, Fage is one of my all-time favorite things!

Thanks, Lisa- yes, I do know that yellow stool can be a symptom of other things, so I'll continue to monitor. It's just that it was a CLASSIC symptom of gluten for me and went away once gluten-free.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
