Gluten Intolerant...still Have To Be Carefule W/cc?

I couldn't get a positive Celiac Diagnosis w/blood work or endoscopy but I've gone gluten-free 2 times now and feel MUCH better so I'm just saying I have an intolerance I guess (a diagnosis sure would be easier!!) Anyway, do intolerant folks still need to be as careful w/all the cross contamination as a true Celiac would? So far I haven't been ultra careful (still sharing kitchen stuff). I'm also starting to not feel as great as I was 4 weeks ago when I started back on the gluten-free diet...could be cross cont. or another intolerance??? How long do other intorances come into play? I was really hoping gluten would be my only thing as I hate the thought of more experimenting :)

I have one celiac gene & one gluten intolerant so I'm totally gluten-free, no cheating ever. You could very well be having CC issues.. I got very itchy skin, angry, restless & migraines when I used to get a particle of gluten.

Many of us also have other allergies as well . So you could try be extremely careful about gluten & see if you feel better . It it doesn't seem to help then maybe you could look into allergies to other foods .....don't forget gluten is hidden in everything !

Good Luck

I know I'm not eating gluten food, but I found out that my sendodyne toothpaste (which I use because it's SLS free and better for canker sores) probably contains gluten....and perhaps Walmart brand ibuprofen?? Couldn't find direct answers to either of those questions. I don't eat many processed/boxed foods anyway and I've done SO MUCH research on gluten-free foods that I really don't think I'm getting glutened...except for possible shared untensils, counter crumbs, etc?? Don't ya hate trial and error stuff?? If someone just would tell me what I could and couldn't have I'd be happy to oblige :) I never had the gene test done although the doc said he would do it for me...but I'm pretty sure he already thinks I'm nuts :) I'd like to know if I carry gene for my kid's sakes.

And another weird thing - I've had canker sores for years, sometimes none but other times are SO bad. Since I've gone gluten free I've had them for 4 weeks! I figured they'd go away being gluten-free...could be though that I'm stressed about food and therefore I have canker sores. Who knows!

My Walmart ibuprofen is fine. If it's made by Perrigo Labs in Allegan, Michigan, it's gluten free.

Yes, gluten intolerant's have to worry about CC just the same. Gluten intolerance is much bigger than celiac. Celiac is just a tiny part of the entire gluten intolerance spectrum....the RX for gluten intolerance and celiac is the same...totally gluten free.

I am not diagnosed celiac, yet I am much more sensitive than many on this forum. Being super sensitive is difficult, even the labeled "gluten free" foods can be a problem for those who are super sensitive.

I agree trial & error is time consuming, nerve -racking & a royal pain but if that is what we need to do , I guess do it & get it done!.I think we all wish there was an easier way to figure out what bothers us, a magic wand....but to date I feel quite sure no one has come up with an answer or plan, SORRY.If you do you could make millions...........

Did you ask about sensodyne on this site? I know it has been discussed here & yes it contains gluten, your correct. Now some will say it is under the 20ppm but I too used to use the same brand & I had problems. Others still use it with no reaction, again it just goes to show we each need to find our own limits.

Gluten is in everything so if you happen to find that you react to bits of gluten then you may need to restructure your lifestyle as most of us have had to do to feel better.

I feel at times like I'm allergic to this planet.

Then there is the thought of being allergic to other things IE: gasoline ,perfume, smoke, sulphites, msg, food coloring, nuts, pork & so on.

Once you staart to notice what your body is telling you , you may find other things crop up that you hadn't realized. Being in tune with your body will in the end mean better health & happiness...

There is light at the end of the tunnel....

Please feel free to ask many questions so you too can begin to heal & feel whole again.

I searched sensodyne on this site but I never posed the question myself. Today I used baking soda and some salt until I find something else. I think Spry might be OK?? I've always had an MSG reaction so I already know about that one....2 down hundreds to go!! :) Thanks for the encouragement!

Exactly. Many things are labeled "gluten free" and still contain gluten...I think it's wrong, but that's how it is. They should be labeled "gluten lite", so we all can make our own decision. For some of us, it takes a long time to realize why we keep getting glutened and that's sad. One day, I hope they change the ruling on labeling rules for gluten free.

For some of us, as little as 5ppm will make us ill. I don't take the chance anymore--no more processed foods for me, and I am very careful about any meds I take. I question everything. I was glutened by a coconut milk, that supposedly has no gluten near it, yet it is processed on the same lines as soy products...soy is a gluten CC issue for me.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
