Dinner Out At Company Meeting Was A Success

Thankfully ordering and eating at Bravo Cucina Italiana went smoothly, although the fish tasted gritty and the vegetables had an aftertaste of kitchen sink water. A few people asked why I had a special meal prepared and I casually mentioned my food allergies. At that point there was dead silence at my end of the table and 6 people were starting at me while I had to explain...kinda awkward but it was fine. One of my collegues then mentioned how he gets reflux when he eats certain foods so i guess it was all good. Just wanted to share. Interesting how i get grossed out now when i eat restaurant food...most of it is farm raised and low quality ingredients. at least when i cook for myself i use only the best ingredients

FANTASTIC! So glad your dinner went well. Yeah, I often get 'safe' restaurant meals that are much worse than I can prepare at home, which is why I seldom eat out in my own city. SIGH Eating out in high quality restaurants in touristy towns in Maui is MUCH different. Even with all my 7 restrictions and my husband's 9 food restrictions, we've enjoyed stellar meals. That all depends on the chef and his/her creativity.

I'm glad you had a chance to talk about your food allergies. You never know who else might have undiagnosed allergies or even celiac disease. Most people with whom I discuss my food restrictions are very interested. Of course, they can tell I'm passionate about spreading the word and answering questions about digestive problems. Although I no longer lead a local celiac support group, I continue to meet people in person and online who could use a little information to help them understand and maybe resolve their digestive symptoms.

Oh Jason that's great!!!! I was wondering if you had gone yet. So glad it worked out fine. I have had that experience where my meal was not that great after they took all the seasonings off and whatnot.

We are going to Medieval Times tomorrow and they say they have gluten free options where they grill your meat separately. I hope I'm not taking my life into my hands eating there!

I'm glad your business lunch went well. You made a comment where six at your end of the table kinda stared at you when you were having a different dish than the others & you stated because of your food intolerances. I must say I don't think they were staring because you had an illness but because they were interseted in learning about celiac. Many people have issues that they are afraid to discuss with anyone esp. people they work with , by you opening up they may next time open up about their personal issues as you said another person did. You never know when by being open & honest you may be helping another human being! I think you found the start of understanding yourself & others by stating you have an illness... KUDOS!!!! Keet talking & in the near future you will be able to say yep, I was there a while ago & now I'm helping others.If you didn't know it you are helping yourself also by talking & being open. Remember you don't have a rare , deadly , contagious disease but a disease that can be managed by diet. How lucky & blessed we all are! No chemo, radiation no expensive drugs....

Jewish people don't say amen when they are done praying? I didn't know that.

they do- but saying "amen to that" is more a christian/catholic thing :)

      Yes, I meant if you had celiac disease but went gluten-free before screening, your results would end up false-negative. As @trents mentioned, this can also happen when a total IGA test isn't done.

      I found at Disney springs and Disney they have specialist that when told about dietary restrictions they come and talk to you ,explain cross contamination measures tsken and work with you on choices. Its the one place I dont worry once I've explained I have celiac disease. Thier gluten free options are awesome.

      What you’re describing is actually very common, and unfortunately the timing of the biopsy likely explains the confusion. Yes, it is absolutely possible for the small intestine to heal enough in three months on a strict gluten-free diet to produce a normal or near-normal biopsy, especially when damage was mild to begin with. In contrast, celiac antibodies can stay elevated for many months or even years after gluten removal, so persistently high antibody levels alongside the celiac genes and clear nutrient deficiencies strongly point to celiac disease, even if you don’t feel symptoms. Many people with celiac are asymptomatic but still develop iron and vitamin deficiencies and silent intestinal damage. The lack of immediate symptoms makes it harder emotionally, but it doesn’t mean gluten isn’t harming you. Most specialists would consider this a case of celiac disease with a false-negative biopsy due to early healing rather than “something else,” and staying consistently gluten-free is what protects you long-term—even when your body doesn’t protest right away.

      Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.
