Ok so my doctor was 25 if he was a day old. The interesting thing (person) was the triage nurse. She was all of 20, but when I got there she asked me what I'd eaten and I told her what I had for breakfast then I told her a frozen chicken breast and bbq sauce and she said "oh, you're a celiac?" :o

So they gave me an IV and drew a lot of blood. Then they came in and shot liquid valium into that iv and took me down for a CT scan of the brain and guess what? NORMAL!

So the doctor said that he wants me to come on back in tomorrow and get all the other tests run as scheduled by my own doctor. He said "with the acuity - ? meaning how acute the vertigo is, he said, "with all your tests being negative, I think the tests your doctor scheduled are in order, as it seems dietary changes are in order".

Then the triage nurse (who said I smell soooo good LOL - I told her it's something I bought on ebay for $2.79) she took my iv out and she says "here's yours papers, you've got acute vertigo - sounds pretty celiactic to me" then laughed and asked if we liked the new word she made up. I think she must be a celiac or related to a celiac, cuz she seemed to know more about it than he did.

So I'm going back tomorrow for my tests, they couldn't do them then because ER costs three times as much and I wasn't fasting. And he asked if I needed an RX for Antivert or Valium, and I said I have a bottle of both in my purse and he said the valium might work better for now because of the increased anxiety. Before I stopped eating gluten, this is the reaction I always had. And when I was sitting there waiting for my daughter to pick me up, my stomach sounded like there was a live elephant in their just roaring it's head off, the sweet baby ray's I was eating was honey something flavor.

That loud tummy is something that happens to me now only when glutened. IMHO it sounds like something 'got' you. As to the BBQ sauce I wonder if maybe you are one of those rare celiacs like myself that react to distilled gluten grains. Not a definate as I don't know what their distilled vinegar is derived from but I have never been brave enough to try it since Wegmans has a couple that are for sure safe for me.

Glad they were knowledgable and hope your feeling better.

Connie, Glad to know your brain is "normal" and you are feeling better.

This may cause me to lose my Celiac Club membership but: is it possible that Celiac may not be the problem? Just something to ponder while you are going thru all the blood sugar type tests.

Yes, everyone, I know you can have Celiac and other illnesses. :).

. . . and took me down for a CT scan of the brain and guess what? NORMAL!

Say it isn't so!!!!! :lol::lol:

Hope you get some answers with your testing tomorrow!!

I like that "Celiactic" . . . I shall have to incorporate that into my vocabulary.

I remember new years day, sweetie and I took my mom out for New years day dinner.

Next morning I woke up with a very bad headache and dizzy, Then it progressed into heart palpatations, then my left arm and shoulder stated alternating from hurting to numbness, started having trouble breathing. I thought I was having a heart attack. Finally went to the ER and after extensive tests. Ekg was normal, checked for blood clots in the lungs, gallbladder was fine, no brain hemorrages. Everything came back normal. According to the ER dr, who thankfull knew about Celiac told me it was either cc or I managed to get glutened somehow. I know I definitely don't want to experience that ever again.

I hope you figure out what it is.

I wasn't thinking that I actually have celiac. I was thinking that I'm gluten intolerant. I thought that's what the blood tests I'm getting are for - ? I'm so confused at this point .....

My understanding is the blood test will be for Celiac antibodies. If you haven't been eating gluten, these tests may not find anything. Seems that some docs call Celiac gluten intolerance or an alllergy. Its not, techically, but some either don't know the difference or say that to make it easier to understand. Go get your blood sugar stuff done. Relax and use the time to read or do a crossword. When you get that figured out, you will feel better.

If you are already gluten light or gluten free those blood tests for celiac/GI will be negative. I consider both celiac and gluten intolerance to be the same thing, while some others consider gluten intolerance to be what shows up before full blown celiac appears. Both are autoimmune but with GI sometimes other organs are affected before the gut is. Since both have to be just as strict with the diet to me it is a moot point which label you put on it. Just my opinion. And yes it is confusing.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again

You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
