More Dating Concerns

ok so this is silly but its been bothering me. just started dating this girl and briefly touched on my gluten problem w/ her. we have also become very intimate lately...what if the gum she chews has gluten in it, what if the chapstick (or makeup) she uses has gluten, what if she eats something with gluten then comes over to my place and we make out, what if her hair product contains wheat and she sleeps over and we share a pillow. Am i really expected to address these issues with her? I think if i did it would be a great way to lose her. Its only been a month and i cant get into this stuff with her now..i just cant. ive been playing it so cool with everything and so far all systems are go..if i start revealing my neuroticisms she will be turned off.

it depends, how sensitive are you? I use normal shampoo, makeup, lotion (although not aveeno) and soap. The chapstick I would ask about but she'll probably chalk it up to being quirky. You can TALK about the gum stuff but maybe lightly, just to test the waters.

If you aren't like...crazy sensitive...it might be ok (do you lick your pillows? I generally don't...)

dont think i lick pillows and to be honest i dont know how sensitive i am since i dont get classic celiac symptoms. seems like lately whenever i dont feel well i chalk it up to gluten exposure which may or may not be the case...think im just a sensitive person all around. but to date i still dont know which symptoms to attribute to gluten exposure

You could have your 20 or so sisters on this site talk to her. :P

Ok, maybe not. I think you might have to talk about the lipstick issue. Some lipsticks have wheat in them. Like an allergy. If you were allergic to peanuts, she wouldn't wear lipstick with peanut oil.

However, young man, no sharing pillows until your married! ;)

I finally asked my hubby to brush his teeth before any serious intimacy. I had sensitivities to some degree all the time and simply one by one found ways I might could be "contaminated". Serious kissing was one way. Since he isn't bothered by any of the foods I am, he still eats alot of them. You need to learn, thus know just how sensative you are, i.e. makeup, shampoos, etc. It's all a process and it all takes time. But it's up to you to learn, know and share with those around you.

If you are close enough to be 'intimate' you should be close enough to discuss the gluten issue with her.

Ditto this.

I am very sensitive to trace gluten. We have a gluten free household. Yesterday I kissed my daughter after she had come home from eating out (gluten) with friends. She hadn't brushed her teeth first. Boy and I paying the price today. I'm worse glutened than I've been in months or even more than a year. I'm guessing that the kissing that you have in mind is more intimate than what my daughter and I did. You need to talk to her. If she's worth it, she will understand.

too early to bring this up with her..trust me on that

what happend when you are exposed to trace gluten?

dilettantesteph Collaborator

I get extremely grumpy and I get uncontrollable diarrhea. Last time I couldn't get to the toilet and went all over the bedroom and bathroom floor. At least I managed to get out of the bed. I get all sorts of other miscellaneous symptoms, but those are the worst.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
