I've not posted on this thread before as since developing celiac disease I've been too exhausted to do any craft stuff or gardening. well, you'll be pleased to know that you've all inspired me! I've ordered some seeds to grow lettuce, tomatoes and carrots and me and DS (3) have planted some sunflowers and cress. our garden is small, so I'm thinking of trying out a wormery some time. Anyone else got one/ made one? Also, I've got back into my cross stitch. I started it when I was pregnant with DS

Thanks for the inspiration :D

yea!!!!!! Welcome -- and glad you're starting the gardening again! I tried the worm farm -- but I didn't do the "official" farm with the red worms -- only earthworms, and I killed them all -- three times! If I do it again, I'm going to order the red worms that you're supposed to use, and go from there. I do have some really good compost, though!

It sounds like you're going to have a really good garden this year. I'm only planting Tomatoes, Raspberries and Blackberries as far as foods go. I have flat leaf parsley and curly leaf parsley that actually THRIVED this winter. Who knew???? I have mint, thyme and sage that survived, as well. I do want to get some Lemongrass, though. We use a lot of it in tea, and in some thai soups.

Happy to have you back -- and feeling better. Talk to you soon . . . . Lynne

Me three-or four! Definitely--how fun! Shirley, you must send the hubby on holiday! :) An extended "stitch and b*tch" or no-b%$@#ing, either way would be fun :)

Susie--Glad you are getting back in the groove! These activites can be a real godsend and 'safe place.'

Welcome back too Judy--you crazy gardener!! You'll be happy to know--my brother did like his gift--although the ribbons I used to tie the panes together came undone. Ribbon is slippery, so going to retie with a dab of superglue in the center. GOOD NEWS though! I finished sewing my table runner together--remember? It is made of antique hankerchiefs, and overtime I will do some embroidery on it. My husband didn't say anything about it last night--I had put it on the dining room table. When I asked him what he thought he was like "Is that always going to be there, b/c I'm afraid to eat at the table?" :o I said, 1. We hardly eat at the table, 2. It would take approximately 10 seconds to move it to eat at the table and 3. Thank you for the affirmation! He told me liked it then

Lynne--Those poor worms...

Jen, I would love to see that table runner! I'll bet it looks great!

I have to laugh at your hubby though, mine hates table cloths, placemats or table runners on the table. Says they are a pain in the -you know what- I usually find them on the chair, or floor, or half way inbetween.

It's a busy time out doors for sure. I was pruning off all the deer damage today. They are so frustrating  All the lawns have already been cut once, as well as the obedience ring and agility ring. I'm still teaching quilting on Tues. mornings and Wed. evenings, but will put a stop to it soon for the summer. IT'S GOLFING TIME :D Dog training will go on once a week all summer...till the snow flies.

Unfortunately, not much computer time, so don't get to read too many of the posts now. That's sad, as it's super to keep up with everything. Everyone, including the new ones have so much to share.

Yup ... we really need that holiday out here ... hubby can go to Sask. to visit his family and golf  When you all coming???

Jen -- I laughed out loud about what your husband said with regard to the table runner! That is so cute, though! Can't WAIT to see it -- I'll bet it's beautiful.

Shirley -- my husband says "Go. You need to meet with your Celiac friends. It will be good for you." He's either ready to get my butt out of the house, or tired of me moping around! At any rate, if it's going to happen, I'm seriously in!

Judy -- I KNOW you'd be in!

Lollie -- I'd love to see some of your pottery. I have wanted to do that, but it seems REALLY HARD! If you can post some of your pictures, I'd love to see your work.

Susie -- guess I can tell you what NOT to do with the worms. I agree with Jen . . . poor worms.

Shirley -- can't you hit the deer with golfballs? I mean, if you just HAPPENED to be practicing, and you just HAPPENED to crown one as it was destroying your tree, you couldn't be held responsible, could you???? B)

Just a thought . . . .

Talk to you guys soon !

:lol: Lynne, I'll tell you how the golf ball, deer targets worked.

Step one, we are sitting on the porch with a handy bucket of golf balls.

Step two .. three deer come with in a few feet of the porch.

Step three...Ready aim fire...bounce golf balls off the side of big doe

Step four... doe picks up golf ball to see if it is good to eat.

Step five.. spit out golf ball and head for rose arbour

Step six.. turn Sheba loose...Sheba runs at deer, deer runs at Sheba, we all get pis-ed and run and hollar at deer. Deer goes to golf course.

Step seven..go in house for coffee refill

Back out on porch, deer in shrub bed.

I'm not kidding...this honestly happened last summer.

I'll see if I can use one of my deer pictures for my avatar

HI Guys

I sent a post after Lollies but must have gone to the 'dead worm' place. Don't know where it went.

was trying to figure where everyone was

Lollie- TX

Lynne- KY

Shirley- Canada

Susie-?

Jen & Kate - Indianna

was there anyone else?

good grief we're all over the place. I have always wanted to girls week-end but never have done it.

I am really serious about this.

I was reading about pine cones and their uses..I taught 'critters' made from all natural stuff to my garden club. It's been 4 years now and at our green's Christmas sale they have been such a hit people stand in line to get in and grab them up in the first 15 min. I wish i could put a picture inbedded in the post like Vincent does but don't know how. will try one with the avatar..see if it works.

Wow Judy, you are right, we are all over the place!

I've got the deer in my avatar now, but it's hard to see. This buck actually has crooked antlers, one hangs over one eye. The little whitish spot at the front of the picture is Sheba's ears. The buck was coming after her with his horns. There is also a doe in the back ground, but the picture is pretty little.

BTW.. I'm in western Canada, about 4 hours north of Spokan Washington :)

Judy -- for the same reason that I'm looking at them at 1 in the morning! Cute stuff, though! I make pine cone wreaths -- the type that you use the frame. You soak the pine cones in water, so that they close up -- then you pack those suckers as tight as you can into the frame -- larger ones on the outside, then get smaller as you go to the center. When they dry, the pine cones start opening up -- they look beautiful! The only problem is that it takes approximately 210-220 pine cones to make a medium-sized wreath! Basically, it's 1 1/2 of the extra large (black) trash bags full of the cones. It's also hell on your hands -- especially since I've gotten this arthritis thing. I'm still going to do it again this year, though!

Shirley -- I can't believe that you've already tried the golf-ball thing! That is bust-a-gut funny, though! I can't wait to tell my Dad -- he's an avid -- "Get rid of the critters" kind of guy. One year when he couldn't keep the squirrels out of the bird seed, (and God knows he tried everything), he would sit out back, keep a cigarette lit, and when the squirrels would get into the feeder, he'd put a bottle rocket into a tube, aim it at the squirrel, and light the fuse! He went through more cigarettes that he didn't smoke that summer! We couldn't believe that he was aiming the bottle rockets at the squirrels!

I have a pellet gun, and I (at least used to be ) a sharp-shooter. I'll nail those stupid deer in the butts -- their furry little white tails will be hauling arse! Either that, or hit them with paint balls -- have one of those, too! All the other deer would be afraid that they were targeted!!!!!!!

My DH is really serious about getting together. He wants me to get together with you guys -- after reading some threads to him, he thinks that you're the greatest bunch of people, and it would do me more good than any of the doctors are doing to get together with you!!! (He's usually a little judgemental, too -- you guys must rate!)

Little Destiny is lying on my chest sleeping -- I guess it's time for us to go to bed! Talk to you guys soon . . . Lynne

Shirley--Ha! What a story :) Like the pic too--which I could be there is person to see that!

Judy--Cool owl!! I would love to make a wreath from pinecones sometime. My mom has one my grandma made. But as Lynne said--I'd need to start saving them up--need lots!

Lynne--sharp-shooter! You go girl! I was telling my dh last night we need to go back to the shooting range. We would like to get some hand guns--hobby... I shot my first gun last fall--we went with another couple that likes guns :) and shot some glocks... Loved it! I was pretty good to for the first time! Maybe I'm a natural

It would be fun to hang with all of you! Shirley--your house has more than one bathroom, right ?! Ha!! Maybe late summer/fall? I have fam in Spokane...my dad's bro, wife kids etc... Haven't seen them in years...

Lollie-Welcome! Peaches---my ultimate favorite canned item. We used to obsess over my grandma's...and I continued her tradition canning some in med. syrup and handing out at christmas :) My next fav is chunky, no-sugar added applesauce. Very good....

Jen -- I started shooting with my son -- I have a Colt Woodsman Target 22 -- it's a really nice gun. I used to be able to hit a 2 1/2" target (I'd put 3 on a tall stand) at 25 feet -- I'd hit 8 in the bullseye, and the 9th one would be in the 10. This one good old boy (we shoot at a place that is in inbred country), took about 25 minutes to line up his shot, set his site, etc. I just went out, placed my tall stand out, went back, loaded my gun, and when they said we could start shooting, shot the first, then reloaded, shot the second, then reloaded, then the third. The good old boy looked at the guy who calls the "all clear" and said, "She's good." The guy that calls the all clear said, "I wouldn't make her mad."

They gave Brandon so much grief! I bought him a jacket from this place that he wanted for Christmas. He took it in to have it embroidered, and the guys said, "what are you going to have put on it?" one of them said, "How about Bubba?", the next one said, "How about Ace", the third one said, "How about My Mom Shoots Better Than Me!!!!!!" Brandon just put his head down and shook it no!!!!!

I'm thinking that with my handgun, and your shotgun, if we won't get arrested, we could really resolve Shirley's deer problem -- AND have meat and leather!!! I have great stories about these kids I know who hunt -- I'll have to tell them later, because I've already gabbed forever!

Talk to you guys soon . . . . Lynne

Lynne-

What a great story!! I would love to be that woman who kicks all the guy's butts on the range :) But I have a long way to go till that! Although I did do better than my dh. We hung my target up in the basement. I was watching Alias last night and this chick shot a bazooka. I asked dh--Think I will ever get a chance to shoot one of those?? He didn't think so  We'll have to hear those hunting stories! I'd like to go sometime...I think! I would like to go fishing again sometime...been a while. But that's another topic!

Is this your gun? http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976596781.htm

I LOVE fishing! With regard to the shotguns, etc., I stink!!! I nearly tore my shoulder apart because I didn't place the butt of the gun close in my shoulder! Brandon, though, is a FANTASTIC target shooter. I use the thing to launch the clay pigeons -- if he does one, he hits it, then hits one of the pieces that breaks off it. If he does two at a time, he hits both of them. One weekend, we used an entire case of clay pigeons. He missed ONE TIME. I was amazed. He has this amazing hand/eye coordination. I think it's because of those stupid video games!

I did get to shoot an Uzi -- it's amazing. It shoots with very little recoil at all, and all you hear is this really small sound. I got to shoot an AK, also -- but didn't like it. The good thing about this range, is that all the guys there, once you've proven yourself if you're a girl, share their weapons and let you try them out! They want to teach you about them, show you what they do, and let you try them out. It's pretty good. But it's DEFINITELY a good old boy's club! (complete with missing teeth)

No, that one is a Pre-woodsman. Mine is a Woodsman -- it's a little larger, looks a little different.

:D Okay, now I really need you guys out here with your sharp shooting, when you are not after the deer, the golf course closes down two mornings a season for a gopher shoot  We wouldn't want you to get bored!

Speaking of the golf course, we went out golfing this morning, (hubby, a neighbour guy and myself) and Shhhhhh  I beat both guys. :D Getting a bit of a suntan for a bonus. Can't say much though, or they will quit taking me.

We have tons of cones out here! I love that owl!! And the wreath sounds wonderful too. Wish mailing costs weren't so high, I could ship out a huge box.

I'll send you my email so I can see bigger pictures of those owls! I'm an owl sort of person anyway :)

Jen...my house has three bathrooms  Doesn't every Celiac have more than one bathroom? This morning we went golfing before the club house opened and after the first couple of holes I needed to go ... good thing I'm married to one of the executive members... he had a key to the club house. :o

Lynne it would be great fun to have you out here. We are having our second Celiac Dinner on June 10th. The first one in Nelson went over so good that we had to set a date for the second one before everyone finished eating. :P We will be having the second one in Rossland, which is about an hour closer to Spokan.

Well, I spent a lot of time on the golf course, and have to go to Slocan to print the newsletter at 5:00, so I better get some work done! Have fun this afternoon all !

Shirley--Only one bathroom in our house :( And let me tell you--its an issue. I have to always get up a certain amount of time before my dh, otherwise, he is in the shower when I have to #2...and that just doesn't fly in our house !!

Well, Shirley, its ok most of the time--but I did have one awful day when my dh decided to take apart the toliet to fix a leak, but he ain't no plumber :) so it took him forever and I had to go so bad I threatened to go down in the basement and go into a bag--he kept saying, "NO! Wait--just another minute!!" He said he didn't want to have to throw my poop away. I said "I'll throw it away!!" Luckily...he finished right at the last minute !

Lollie--pear butter, that sounds yummy! I did tomatoes and "end of the summer relish" with my unripe, green tomatoes, onions and peppers too. I would like to try preserves again. Did it 2 yrs ago but didn't like the recipe--bleh. My dh loves apple butter--I'm sure he'd enjoy that. His favorite is rhubarb and I've promised to can some eventually. Ever tried that? I'm most excited about doing strawberry jam this summer. This is a cool farm where you can pick unlimited berries--should be fun!

My hubby wants to take and RV trip - and until the other day, I didn't think much about it THEN, I realized that an RV only has ONE BATHROOM!!! Every morning, our three bathrooms are in use, usually at the same time! I am not sure we could survive on one bathroom - even for a few days. We would never leave the RV because it would be a constant line waiting to use the ONE BATHROOM!!!! Won't work...

I used to try BB guns on the deer, nothing, have thrown rocks, they kind of just look at you...and that look is saying "dummy" what are you thinking...

However, both of those work wonders on squirells! I hate the little buggers - my hubby wants to eat them and I refuse to allow them on anything in our house or on the grill. Ewww!!! Fuzzy rats with a big tail but squirell is BIG around here - EWWW!!!!!

I love fishing too--we spend all our spare time in the spring when we aren't gardening, on our boat fishing.

I was in the mood to start up my counted cross stitch the other day but then my ring fingers started to ache meaning the tendons in my lower arms are acting up again now that I am back in the yard, gardening. Funny, they don't bother me when I am painting the house, only gardening??? Oh well, guess hubby will have to keep helping around the kitchen and house!
