Popcorn Kernels

Does anyone know of a gluten-free popcorn kernel? I tried Orville Redenbacher and I think it has made me sick. I haven't had much luck contacting ConAgra either. Furthermore, even though it may not contain gluten, it could have been cross contaminated. Any helpful info on this would be great. Thanks!

I get really, really sick from popcorn because I am intolerant to corn. To my great surprise, my neuropathy only started going away after I cut out corn. I'd suggest considering this as a possibility for yourself.

Hi Ruth,

Con Agra will list any gluten on the label. I eat Orville Redenbacher popcorn quite frequently (the plain kernels, popped on the stove) and have not had a problem with them, and I'm very sensitive to cross contamination.

Could you have a developing problem with corn or maybe the fiber is too much for you at this point?

Popcorn can be a little tough on a sensitive digestive tract.

In microwave popcorn, the oils, flavorings, and preservatives alone make me sick - doesn't matter if they're gluten free. I started making old school popcorn on the stove a couple of years ago, and it tastes SO much better...and it's healthier!

Very interesting, @Idnam.  When I was experiencing this problem at its worse, I found high carb meals like lots of rice or too many cookies were a trigger.

Oh my, I have always had the symptoms for B12 deficiency, which is why I had the blood test that led to my celiac disease diagnosis I had been taking  B vits have been always been amazed that all ,my bloods were perfectly normal! I queried this many times with my doctor as to whether the B12 was active and being absorbed or whether it was just in my bloodstream. They dismissed this idea. And of course I still take them. Thank you so much, what a revelation and really quite understandable,  I am about due for my annual full blood test so maybe I will just stop taking them?

@SB04, Have you been checked for B12 deficiency?  A deficiency in Vitamin B12 will cause hives and also raise the tTg 3 IgG level, even in people without Celiac Disease.   You can have B12 deficiency without having Celiac Disease.   All eight B vitamins work together.  Do not supplement just a single B vitamin.   Best wishes.
