New Here - Anybody Glued To Toilet For First Few Hours A.m?

Yesterday I had an EGD with biopsy after my Celiac blood panel came back negative.

Symptoms and pain have increased rapidly in the past 6 months,

IBS for years. Here is a brief rundown of symptoms. Wondering if they fit the

basic description of gluten-intolerance (I know it varies person to person):

Loose stools every morning, with urgency. Sometimes

6-7 times before I can shower and leave the house.

Lower abdominal pain (colicky) that radiates to the back.

Pain is always present. Have had every test, X-ray, MRI,

CT, ultrasound done - all just fine.

Nights of chronic all-over, maddening itching. No raised

rash or hives. Is NOT constant. Seems to occur 2-3 hours

after a big meal. Nothing relieves it.

Bloated for years - boobs to bellybutton, I call it. Look

6-9 months pg, depending on the day. Rarely belch or

pass (exception: yesterday after EGD procedure). Tired of

looking and feeling like a dirigible :(

I'll be 40 next month, married mother of 3. Sick and

tired of being sick and oh so tired and weak-feeling.

Have not tried gluten-free yet, as I wanted to wait til

after EGD test. Scheduled (of my own recommendation)

with an allergist

the 20th for 3 hours of testing, mainly for food intolerances

sensitivities and allergies.

Am I on the right path to finding some answers?

Do my symptoms at all sound celiac-related??

Would really welcome some feedback. Thanks guys!

Yup. I've had the loose stools that make me late for work, even when I try to leave extra time. I get the bloating, too. My pain has been more transient and more often in my stomach, but yeah. Pain.

Could be Celiac! If you've already had the EGD with biopsies and the Celiac panel, sounds like it's time to just try the gluten-free diet and see if it helps. The panel can be falsely negative with a clinical diagnosis of Celiac confirmed by improvement with a gluten-free diet.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's Celiac and you're feeling better soon. Good luck!

ETA: I also absolutely LOVE that you used the word "dirigible" casually in a sentence. That was super cool.

Thanks Emi! Will take your advice!! Still excited (really?) about seeing the allergist

too. ;)

I went gluten free the day of my EGD/biopsy. My celiac panel was positive and it turned out the biopsies were also. So if all testing has been done, just go for it!

I was miserable after my EGD...to get a better look at my stomach/small intestine, my GI dr. pumped air into it. While they try to also get as much out afterwards as possible, I was hugely bloated and uncomfortable for a good bit of the day.

Do give the diet a good strict try now that your testing is done. You do sound like your in the right place. False negatives are unfortunately not rare but if you get good results from the diet you will know you have the answer.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
