I am 8 weeks pregnant with my third and I am soooo sick. It started at 7 weeks just like with my last two and those lasted until 15 weeks. This time it is so much worse. For the last two weeks I have thrown up at least 4 times a day. All of the medications I have looked up say unknown if they are gluten-free or not. Has anyone taken any of these medications and found them to be gluten-free? I can hardly funtion right now and I cant imagine 6 more weeks of this!

Thanks

Stephanie

Cola syrup by Apothecary Products relieves nausea really well for me. I buy mine at the local supermarket. You can probably get it on their website www.apothecaryproducts.com

Also Liddell makes a homeopathic spray called Stomach Distress that you spray under the tongue. This has also been something I keep on hand

Nausea is my major symptom whenever I am glutened

*warning* since you are pregnant check with a doctor before using products

talk to your doctor and they should give you something. I know I took two different types because I was so sick both of the the dr. gave me. The phamacy should also let you know if the are gluten-free. I hope you feel better and congrats on your baby!

B-complex will often help morning sickness. Never let your stomach get totally empty or it will be hard to get it back under control. The old soda crackers by the bedside doesn't work for us, but some other gluten-free snack might. Just be sure you eat it while still laying down. The good news is that if you are like most of us, you will wake up one morning during week 13 and suddenly realize that you aren't nauseated anymore. Then you can enjoy this pregnancy.

If your doctor says you can have phenergan, Watson makes a gluten-free generic.

I personally can't stand nausea and I say take drugs!

Zofran and Phenegran are gluten-free and are wonderful anti-nausea drugs. Get your doc to prescribe you one of those-they are both prescription. Zofran is really expensive but Phenegran is not.

I also heard Compazine works.

If you don't want to take drugs, try

Hi there! Sorry you are so sick! I was like this with my last child and it was pure hell. Especially if you have other kiddies to care for. Just a warning about Phenergan, it will knock you on your butt and if you have other small kids I would probably opt for Zofran even though it is more expensive. I took Phenergan, but only when my husband was home because I kept falling asleep with a 2 year old in the house. You will probably have to phone the maker of both meds to find out if they are gluten-free. If you want to go the nautal route, try ginger pills if your OB says its ok. They helped me a bit. I hope you feel better soon!

Zofran and Phenegran are the meds. I took I just couldn't remember the name.

Phenegran really didn't work for me just for a couple of days and then I was sick. It did make me really sleepy so I had to time it out when I knew that I had to drive to work. Zofran worked much better and didn't make me tired at all. I was still sick but not as bad as I would have been if I didn't have any meds. I hope you feel better soon.

Kaysol- I have celiac disease, and I am 8 weeks pregnant! I have extreme nausea all day long. I have been prescribed Zofran. I am having such a hard time because I am gluten-free. I just got diagnosed six months ago. I cannot find things I want to eat. It is especially hard because cooking makes me so nauseated. When is your baby due. I am due Feb 11. Good luck!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the help. I went ot my first appt today and my Dr. suggested phenegren or Zofran also. I am glad to hear they are gluten-free, I couldnt fine that information. I will be much happier if I am not throwing up! I have a 5 and a 2 year old so feeling like I have the flu for 3 straight weeks is not fun at all!

natmilly, I am due on February 9th, sounds like we are right at the same place. Good luck to you too! and yes, nothing tastes or sounds good right now to me either. even the thought of food makes me gag. I know this will pass and I will eating like crazy again soon enough but sheesh!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
