Total Gut Inflamation!

My entire gut feels like it is inflamed from this gluten incident! I've had 2 sleepless and painful nghts with all the toxic symtpoms. I had to take a zantac during the night to stop the burning> Is there anything better out there that would help the inflamation (short term) while I get this under control again. I'm really sensitive to a lot of meds and of course need a gluten-free one. any ideas or just stick with the zantac?

Prilosec OTC worked better for me.

I went and bought OTC Zantac 150. Let's hope it helps! the IBS is really bad too but I don't want to take too many different meds! When it rains it pours....My abdomen is soooooooooooo bloated and it hurts!

There was a study posted some time ago that said antiacids may contribute to food allergies by allowing undigested proteins into the small bowel.

thanks for the responses. I think i found the culprit...BEANO!

Coincidentally I've been sick since I started taking it and seem to get more bloated and feel more ill right after I take it. Isn't it supposed to help you digest??? anyway, after doing some research I found that it is made from a fungus and that some may be sensitive or allergic to it. given all my food allergies I'm sure that is what is making me sick. Hopefully by stopping it I will feel better in a few days!

this is soooooooooooo upsetting and crazy. another day in the house feeling awful. I took 2 last night with dinner and was up all night!

I hope you've found the culprit and that you feel better soon! I have been seriously thinking of getting some beano after my last glutening incident, bloated for 4 days straight and then pain in my gut for another 4 days. Argh! However, if it's made out of fungus of any sort I think I'll stay away from it. Right now my system seems to be so sensitive that I don't want to chance it!

Shoot, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the bloating without beano? Did the beano work at first?

I used to take Zelnorm for the IBS..but found that after taking it for a while it caused too much movement! I cut the does in half an only took it with my largest meal. It helped me get through some rough patches. I try not to take anything for long periods of time.

:( sometimes when the gut is inflammed, you may need an antispamodic, which is a prescription. Levbid, donnatol-sp?, are examples. they relax the gut. also simethacone (like gas x) may help reduce bloating by moving gas out. I tolerate motrin and find it helps with pain as pain increases production of prostoglandins, which is the hormone that causes pain. antiinflammatory drugs like motrin reduce this hormone.

Good luck

I'm still new at this gluten free stuff. Forked out all the $ on a bread machine thats to be used to make the worst tasting stuff ever. All the different flours, because you can't use just one... I guess the suffering we're going through is not enough. I'm just having a really bad day, got glutten in me last Saturday. My lower back aches, across my shoulders and neck, feel listless, angry, anxious, and just want to go to bed. I need to get out and exercise but can't even get going on that, this is so frustrating! I want to just cry most of the time, food turns my stomach but I force myself to eat. I'm congested feeling with my voice sounding crouppy. My poor husband don't know what to do, thinks I'm heading to the looney bin. I just sit there not wanting to talk or watch shows with him. Is this just me. I used to be happy, laughing at everything, singing to music, always ready to up and go. It also feels like stuff crawling around inside of me. Looking forward to tomorrow... Gotta get better...

You have described exactly how I feel when I eat gluten, I just can't do anything, everything is upsetting, and I too was happy, laughing and singing. I hope to get back to that point again to. I have ingested gluten several times this past month, so will take awhile to get back to myself. The sooner the better! My husband really suffers when I go through this stuff.

I was talking to my husband over the lunch hour and told him about your note about not being yourself. I told my husband "her board name is DebbieNibbles and he says, well, then yours should be 'BernadetteChews.'";)

hey everyone......

Ive been accidentally glutened from eating a box of Corn Pops cereal----had the worst suffering and pain since my first episode upon diagnosis 6 yrs ago----would have gone to the ER but figured, if its Celiac related what can the doctors do for me? Theres no remedy or cure....it just has to "take its course", right?

What helped me through this bad 48 hours (besides my caring boyfriend) were the following:

1. hot lemon water

2. advil

3. white rice

4. banana

5. gluten-free roll with jelly

:)

I would also like to add that I always take this anti-gas pill that works wonders for me......I take it before or after I eat most meals like barbeques, sushi, dairy, etc.

This pill makes me feel soooooo much better! However, I never confirmed with the company if they are completely gluten-free. Im assuming---and I know that I shouldnt assume anything. The name is Phayzme. Does anyone know for sure if this is gluten-free? If it is, its a lifesaver....try it!!!!!

drjmarkusic Newbie

I have looked in my list of medications and cannot find that Phayzme is gluten-free. <_< That doesn't mean it isn't, it is just not on my listing of gluten-free meds.

pantrygirl Newbie

You might try chewing fennel seeds or cumin seeds. I found they help relieve indigestion and heartburn within minutes.

pixiegirl Enthusiast

I don't know about Phayzme but Rolaids makes a antiacid and anti-gas called Rolaids Multi Symptom and they told me it was gluten-free it works wonders for me.

Thanks for your insight. I've been eating wheat bread at least 5 times a week for several months. I've been eating chicken or eggs 5 days a week for at least a year.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Churro! Several things need to be said here: 1. Your physician neglected to order a "total IGA" test to check for IGA deficiency. If a person is IGA deficient, the results of other IGA antibody tests specific to celiac disease will not be valid. A total IGA test should always be ordered when checking for celiac disease with blood IGA antibody test. You should ask your physician to order a total IGA test. 2. Iron deficiency anemia can also give distorted IGA celiac disease blood antibody tests. 3. If you were already on a gluten-free diet or had been restricting gluten consumption for weeks/months prior to the antibody testing blood draw, then the test results would not be valid. Accurate celiac disease blood antibody testing requires you to have been consuming significant amounts of gluten for a significant time period leading up to the blood draw. It takes time for the antibody levels in the blood to build up to detectable levels. 4. Your low iron levels and other symptoms could be due to celiac disease but could also be caused by lots of other medical issues.

Last month I got blood tests done. My iron level was at 205 ug/dL and 141 ug/dL iron binding capacity unsaturated, 346 ug/dl total iron binding capacity, 59 transferrin % saturation. My ferritin level was at 13 so I got tested for celiac disease last week. My tTG-IgA is <.05, DGP IgA is 4.9 and ferritin level is 9. My doctor didn't order other celiac disease tests. In 2021 I was dealing with severe constipation and hemorrhoids. I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I still deal with hemorrhoids but only about once a week. Also, I've been dealing with very pale skin for at least 5 years. Do you think I have celiac disease?

Hi Cristiana! It's so nice to meet you! Thank you for the kind reply I am glad I live in a time where you can connect with others through the Internet. That is a mercy I am grateful for.

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link...
