Well, I made it through Christmas and then got glutened NYE LOL

The man smoked a pork butt and we used Publix brand BBQ sauce because we had used it before with no problems. It wasn't until I looked AFTER that I saw that the flavor we used had Vinegar- not distilled vinegar. Of course by then I was laying on the bathroom floor...but still. At least I know where it came from. Dang. I was doing so well :)

it was Mesquite flavor...so word to the wise, if Vinegar gets you, READ ALL THE LABELS (and not after you eat it HAHAHA) XD

Vinegar is distilled. In the US and in BBQ sauce, it's usually from apples. Think all BBQ sauce probably has vinegar.

Publix has a gluten-free list but mesquite isn't on it.

The single word "vinegar" in an ingredients list is distilled vinegar in Canada and the US, and, as Karen said, is typically from apples.

It could have been something else in meal that got you or it might just have been too much for your tummy. As stated by others if the label only says 'vinegar' in the US it is apple cider vinegar. Malt vinegar will say it is malt vinegar on the label. I always check distilled because I am sensitive to distilled gluten grains and usually go with Heinz because that is safe.

So sorry to hear you had an issue! Maybe the grill used to smoke the pork had some gluten? Or maybe it wasn't gluten at all and was just one of those bouts of bad indigestion? I've started to wonder if I'll ever know when I've been glutened vs. just got a bug or other "normal" issue. Hope you recover quickly!

Just had another thought after I posted the previous response. It is not uncommon for us to have delayed reactions. It may not have been that meal that got you it could have been something from a couple days before. I hope your feeling better.

When in doubt, blame the pregnancy for nausea. Especially in the first trimester. And then later for all the reflux ...

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
