Hi, I'm new to the board. My daughter was diagnosed in 2001 when she was 9yrs. I'm an undiagnosed celiac. I need to simplify my life and get a bread machine. Are there any suggestions?

Thanks

There are several good ones out there according to your budget. Do a search on this site for some of the posts over the last several months and you will find a lot of discussion.

I have an older Regal and a newer Toastmaster TBR15 1.5 lb machine. Both work well and are simple. I prefer simple and easy to expensive and requiring lots of input. Others will encourage you to get one you can program. I also encourage that if you have the budget for it. If not, just get a good machine and don't worry over it too much. The bread will come out wonderfully after a few interesting tries.

Thanks. I did read over some of the prior talks on bread machines and didn't find them overly helpful. I wanted to contact Sunbeam, B/D and such but all of their web sites contain everything but breadmakers. I'll have to contact them directly via phone.

Thanks again.

Love my Zojirushi, which I use with Manna from Anna bread mix. I heard lots of positive reviews of this brand, and that's why I made the purchase.

The booklet that came along with it even has a gluten-free bread recipe!

The website is www.zojirushi.com I have modelBBCC-X20

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
