I Should Be In Europe Right Now...

The last two months have been quite rough and I have missed you! I feel far worse after going gluten free than ever before. I have also eliminated dairy and soy. The doctor is testing me for everything he can think of (I have severe chronic D, nausea and a wide variety of other lovely symptoms). Found out I have a GI infection so am on antibiotics which is what I did NOT want. Thankfully I have been on probiotics for ages and my doctor said I must double my dose right now (at least he gets that). Next step - gastroscopy and colonoscopy again to rule out other issues. Have lost ten lb in less than two weeks. I know it is not gluten. Thankfully my doctor is thorough!

Anyway, my husband and I were to fly to Italy and Croatia this past weekend and had to cancel. It is difficult when you anticipate something so much then are unable to go due to health issues. Again. Not only am I too sick but in too much pain to consider it (which takes a lot - I usually really push myself). I cannot even COOK because even looking at/smelling food makes me vomit. That is really not like me at all.

So, my rant is over. Just wanted to drop in to say a big fat "HI"! :D

Hi Love2travel! I've missed your food posts. I'm so sorry you are going through such a rough time right now. Between this and your back injuries you must be in agony. I hope they can figure out what it is that is making you so sick. Not everything is food related. I hope whatever it is turns out to be easily and quickly treated to get you back to your normal gourmet-cooking-food-loving self. (((HUGS))) Saying a prayer for you right now. :(

Thanks so much for your sweet words and for praying - I really could use a miracle right now! :) I have not even looked at the cooking threads because it makes me too nauseous. :(

I was so sorry to read your post. I know your two main loves are travelling and cooking and at the moment they are both denied you. I sincerely hope that you can return to both soon. You have been an inspiration to me and we seem to have similar intersts(although your cooking abilities are superior to mine). Take care of yourself.

So sorry to hear about your trip postponement, and the reasons for it :( Hope they find out what is causing this real soon and that you get to feeling better quick. {{{hugs}}}

So sorry you are still feeling so ill, on top of all the other things you deal with. I hope your doc gets to the bottom of it, and that you feel better soon. If it just a tiny crumb of consolation, at least you can say that your trip is just postphoned, and that your other home is just waiting for you to be able to get there when you are ready.

Best wishes

Gail

Gail, you make a very good point. The word "postponed" is far better than "cancelled"! I feel extra bad about this as my sister was coming with us (she is currently on leave from work and returns to work January) and she has never been to Europe. It was such a difficult decision to make but both she and my dear husband are very understanding. I'm blessed to have their love and support.

Thank you.

I am SOOO sorry to hear about your health and travel woes. Did you get travel insurance? I'm beginning to think it's worth it to spend the extra $$ for things just like this!

Feel better soon!!

Sadly we did not this time for some crazy reason. We had to pay $300 each to cancel. We know better - we travel a lot! A very foolish decision on our part. :(

Hello, I am new in this group. My spouse and I had to make our trip to Vietnam shorter than expected. We spent 24 hours there, rather than 6 days. I was too sick to go anywhere else than our hotel room. I had brought my own food to make sure but I cheated and had some rice in a restaurant, gave the cef a notice written in vietnamese about my food restriction...but I think the oil he used, soybean or vegetal, got me. I did not know it could be so worst. I wonder now if I should pay attention to traces of soy too...

Anyway, just want to say I feel compassion for you Love2travel. I keep telling myself this is temporary. I will soon find all I can eat...and how to travel (this is a big question mark at the moment). Any tips are welcome!

I'm so sorry. I hope the doctors can figure out what is going on soon.

I'm so sorry. I hope they figure out what's going on quickly so you can resume your life.

You'll get to Europe. Eventually.

I'm so sorry. That has to be so very disappointing.

I really hope you are feeling better soon.

Though trying to diligently eat gluten free, recent bloodwork was bad so searching for culprits.  Eat lot of (preferably mixed) nuts.  Most allergen labels say may be processed on equpment that also processes wheat, etc.  Finally found ONE kind (unsalted mixed) at BJ's.  Wessley (their store brand) that did not contain that warning.  Says in large letters "A GLUTEN FREE FOOD."  Well, all nuts are a gluten free FOOD!  Have been eating and now wonder if this is intentionally decieving.  So stopped eating until find culprit.  Nuts are so good for protein and fiber (especially if trying to not eat meat).  'Tis so frustrating.  Thanks to above, I'll look into Tierra Farms.

Despite being very diligent about eating gluten free, my recent bloodwork was bad.  So been on a mission to find the culprit(s).  During Covid my daughter found "certified gluten free" Yasso mint chocolate chip yogurt bars at Costco.  I was elated and have been eating them since.  When delving into possible culprits I discovered that the boxes with 12 bars at both Costco and BJ's no longer say "certified gluten free."  But the boxes with 4 bars at groceries and Target still say "certified gluten free."  Contacted the manufacturer and was told to go by what the box says.  So guess different machinery is used.  Was also told they were in the process of changing boxes.  Will be interesting to see what that brings.

Before I could call them (after all my research), Costco Pharmacy called and told me they found a generic gluten-free levothyroxine.  Was told name is Amneal brand.  Said they called and company  confirmed is gluten free.  Only one I had found was Lannett so did more research and found:  “BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Nov. 12, 2018.  Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: AMRX) today announced that it has completed a transition agreement with Lannett Company. Under the terms of the agreement, Amneal will take over the distribution and marketing of Levothyroxine sodium tablets from Lannett beginning December 1, 2018 through March 23, 2019, ahead of when the Company's previously announced 10-year Levothyroxine distribution agreement with Jerome Stevens begins on March 23, 2019.” So looks like we’re good until at least 6/23/29.  Active ingredients are colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose, magnesium stearate, CORN STARTCH, acacia, sodium startch glycolate. Bottom line:  We can tell our pharmacists we need gluten-free, generic Amneal brand Levothyroxine.   AMEN.

Given your severe symptoms it sounds like you would be much better off going 100% gluten-free!
