Well, if the rash is DH you can try a low iodine diet for a while and see if it diffuses the rash. DH needs iodine to erupt, so if you get the level low it will short circuit the reaction. Google "thyca" for guidelines on a low iodone diet.

If it isn't DH, you may have another food intolerance like milk, soy, eggs...try an elimination diet and keep a food diary.

Also, keep the rash moisturized. I like Vanicream. Cold packs help me with itching and pain.

Are you on thyroid meds? Some people develop chronic hives that remit with thyroid treatment.

Good luck!

Pricklypear: No thyroid meds, only my antibodies and TPO are high, my T3, T4 and TSH are all normal so he will not give me any medication.

Where can I find Vanicream, I haven't tried that one yet and really haven't found anything that works. My skin is extremely dry, I've used Oil (olive, crisco, grape seed) several lotions and even covered things in Aquaphor and nothing works.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
