I am a college athlete at a small college, which also mean I don't have a fun food court for my meals. I am also new to Gluten Free diet.

I have not yet been diagnosed as a celiac, but either way i have a gluten issue.

I have cute out begals, cereal, bread.. but what about oatmeal?? how is it? iv been doing okay.. so i think ... but not sure!

The oat question is not a simple one.

Commercially grown oats are contaminated with wheat. To consider oats, they must be specially grown and processed to be gluten-free. Even then, a minority of people with celiac disease react to pure oats. Most advise avoiding oats completely during the early stage of recovery, then trying certified gluten-free oats to see if you react.

Some recommend waiting at least 6 months before you eat gluten free oats.

I found in the beginning, even gluten free oats were bothering me. I waited until 4 months gluten free to add gluten free oats back in...and I seem to be handeling them fine now!

I eat gluten free oatmeal all the time and am fine....everyone is so different.

I stayed away from oats for several months, then tried a certified gluten-free brand, Bob's Mill. They assure us that their oat fields are nowhere near a wheat field and there is no cross-contamination in their processing. I did fine with it! And now I can make my own granola and love it!

      Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

      I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

      Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
