There are several ones out there that claim to be gluten free. Anyone have any problems with any of the major brands CC?

I use Mission white corn tortillas, marked gluten-free on the back. No problem.

I use Tostitos restaurant (white corn) chips and Tostitos organic blue corn chips, both marked gluten-free.

I also buy another brand of blue corn tortilla chips, but can't remember the name, but it is marked gluten-free.

I have had good luck with corn tortillas and chips so far.

I have never gotten sick from the Mission White Corn ones. I have gotten sick from La Banderita.

So is it ok to still eat tortillas and tortilla chips, even though they are sometimes overly processed? This is the only thing in my diet I was adamate about keeping, but I'm afraid it is what might be causing the pounds to slowly but steadily creep on (I'm on day 16 of gluten-free diet, gained 5 lbs in a week).

You can keep them in your diet. The amount of calories you choose to consume is your choice.

I like them on salad, too. Just check the brand you are buying for ingredients. I once saw a brand with "wheat" flour in it.

If you live in the US, here is a list of the ones that Frito Lay will say are gluten-free. Other may be but these are the ones they test. I get Santitos all the time and my fat behind loves them. :P

Who knew Cheetos were gluten free! Too funny. I recently found a brand called Garden of Eatin' that has blue corn chips made with "organic blue corn" that I'm inlove with. Like every other chip though, they are processed. Everything else I eat is super clean, except the chips! ;)

Tortilla chips are my crack.

Used to be Junior Mints, but we had a falling out...

Look, eating "clean" and "whole" isn't a strict rules-based ideology. Well, at least for me. Some people have rules - I just eat what works. My "guideline" is very little processed stuff and very little gluten-free grains.

Of course, I can't control myself if tortilla chips are in the house so I don't BUY them very often. And when I do, I pig out. Zero control. It's embarrassing.

Some other things you could try are Food Should Taste Good sweet potato chips or olive chips. Once you have been on the gluten-free and whole food diet a while and gotten better, you can try adding some processed foods back in. Look for foods that have minimal ingredients and no chemicals. Mission brand is good. There is also a new Rudi's brand tortilla wrap coming out but I haven't tried it.

No, our corn production lines are dedicated to corn products only. Wheat Flour tortillas are produced in dedicated lines.

Tostitos restaurant style (white corn) chips have the gluten-free symbol on the back - towards the bottom left? The Naturals line calls it out in words on the front, I think.

Mission's 12 pack of white corn tortillas says gluten free in small bold letters near the ingredients. I haven't found all Mission tortillas to say it...

I saw one of those show it's made shows or some such a few years ago on the Mission tortillas. They had four dedicated lines for them a that time, to keep up with production demands. Four lines of just corn tortillas, with a machine stomping them out and then packing them by hand. They had ladies grabbing big stacks and stuffing them in the bags then.

My family gags on soft corn tortillas used to make quesadillas. We like the rice ones much better. It took us months to even find out they existed. We find them in the frozen gluten-free bread section of Publix. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's funny, I could LIVE on soft corn tortillas and cheese!!! Quesadillas are a MUST at my house :D

I love the Mission Extra Thin corn tortillas. They are gluten free, dairy free, Kosher and three are 110 calories. I pierce a couple of slits in three (so they won't puff up) and pop them in the toaster oven while I slice 3 mushrooms, 1/2 tomato, red or green pepper or any other veggies I have lurking in the fridge. When the tortillas are very lightly toasted, I spread 1/4 cup of Prego Traditional sauce (also gluten-free/df and kosher) between the three and top with the prepared veggies and some Daiya cheese. Back into the toaster oven on broil for a couple of minutes and I have satisfied my craving. This basic recipe only has about 230 calories. Lots of things you could add to this - Hormel pepperoni (gluten-free), Dietz & Weston ham, homemade leftover chicken, a couple of spritzs of Sriracha sauce, chopped shrimp, nutritional yeast (watch the labels), leftover asparagus (yeah, like that's going to happen), hot or mild peppers, pickled peppers, olives, artichoke hearts (watch the label), bacon (watch the label)....

My life would be so sad without Mission Extra Thin corn tortillas. :)

I've been away from this forum for a bit, but I'm b-a-a-a-c-k!

      Hi Colleen H,   I suffered with the pins and needles/burning feeling in my legs and feet for at least  6 years until my Nephrologist figured out that I had to go on a low salt diet.  He said my kidneys weren't strong enough to remove the salt.  The simple fix was a diuretic, but that med leaves the uric acid behind, so that wasn't an option.  On the bright side the low salt diet lowered my BP over 20 points and and the pins and needles/burning feeling went away.  Good Luck and hope this helps.

      Yes this is very frustrating for me ... not sure what to think.  Feels like I'm having reactions to a lot of things  Now applesauce?? I don't understand 😞

      I did ... But aren't we going to be vitamin deficienct if we are not eating due to being sick ?? If the food we eat is gluten free and we have other sensitivities , how do we get out of the cycle??  Thank you

      Anyone else get pins and needles. ??? Burning feeling ? Heat makes it so much worse 😔  Winter is here.  I had to lower my thermostat because I couldn't take that hot air feeling 😔  Hopefully it goes away soon

      I assume that you already know that genetic testing for celiac disease cannot be used to confirm a celiac diagnosis. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. It can be used to rule out celiac disease with a high degree of confidence, however, in the case where the genetic testing is negative for the genes. Until and unless you are actually diagnosed with celiac disease I would not raise this as an issue with family. However, if you are diagnosed with celiac disease through blood antibody testing and/or endoscopy with positive biopsy I would suggest you encourage first degree relatives to also purse testing because there is a significant chance (somewhere betwee 10% and almost 50%, depending on which studies you reference) that they will also have or will develop active celiac disease. Often, there are symptoms are absent or very minor until damage to the small bowel lining or other body systems becomes significant so be prepared that they may blow you off. We call this "silent celiac disease".
