  1. You're coming to Boston in November?????????? I hope so, for totally selfish reasons! That would be great! Stephanie and DS should come too. And anyone else who wants to join in the fun. I am keeping November wide open.......
  2. This is so awesome, Stephanie!!!!!!!!! I finally get to see what the little guy looks like and what great photos they are. The one with Fasano is great.....especially since I have seen the one of Fasano in his bathing suit from the Celiac Convention in Florida. Thanks to Irishheart, that's the image that always comes to mind when I see a photo of our Celiac...
  3. Congratulations on making lemonade out of lemons! This is what kicking butt and not whining about eating gluten free looks like. I was exactly the same way, only not as upset when diagnosed because I knew how to cook, so like you, I learned how to make great versions of all my favorite foods. I was just happy to learn my illness was caused by an actual...
  4. The gluten opioid thing is just not true and IrishHeart provided enough links for your reading pleasure. Comparing it to the addictive powers of heroin is a bit dramatic. No...a lot dramatic. Try withdrawing from heroin and tell me it's the same thing. Anytime you withdraw food from your menu that you are used to eating and gives you mental pleasure...
  5. I am glad you had such a wonderful trip but here's a suggestion.......go ahead and eat wheat again as you have not been diagnosed with celiac. But keep in mind that you did have symptoms that resolved on the gluten-free diet. After 3 months, go and have a celiac panel done. See if your symptoms return. That way, you can enjoy your wheat but still make...
  6. Oh....this statement is so wrong. Candida overgrowth and Celiac Disease are 2 very separate things. I would love to see what you can belly up as proof that candida has a surface protein identical to gliadin and invokes the same immune response. I am well versed in Celiac and candida issues because I did actually have a systemic candida problem, from the...
  7. Yup...I agree, Addy! The key is to tame down the immune response and diet is always a good, first start. I think any one with any AI disease should be tested for Celiac.....simple little blood test! If that comes back negative and the immune problems are ramping up, I would just do a dietary trial for awhile. Can't hurt to eat gluten free for awhile.
  8. GMO's have nothing to do with Celiac Disease or how we react to wheat. If that were true, then no one in Europe with Celiac Disease would be reacting to wheat that they eat. That is about as silly a reasoning as it gets. I would find it pretty easy to travel abroad and not touch anything that was off limits to me as a full blown Celiac. I have done it...
  9. What IrishHeart and GottaSki said! They are veterans of this diet, as am I, and I am also like you....quite the puker when I sustain a gluten hit or eat food that I just cannot digest. Thank goodness I rarely, if ever, get glutened now....and I eat out occasionally at trusted restaurants that have never made me sick. First off, no need to eliminate soy...
  10. Yeah....we know all this but the fact remains that if you have Celiac Disease, you are open to many of the other AI issues out there. Once your AI system goes haywire and on the attack, it can decide (probably via gene combinations and the like) to attack just about any other tissue in the body. Take it from someone who has 4 AI diseases in total....it...
  11. Glutino's products are all made in dedicated gluten-free facilities. They are safe. You have only been gluten-free for 6 months, which is only the very beginning of healing. Many people react to gluten-free products and it isn't because of gluten. Your gut is far from healed yet so this is going to happen and if you have a problem with dairy also, expect...
  12. Sorry Colleen........I meant to say you and not Kareng! Although you both are on a par with giving good advice! I need to wear my glasses when attempting to post....blind as a bat I am.
  13. I have the utmost faith in chiropractors and mine has helped me out tremendously over the years with bone and muscle problems BUT for symptoms like these, Kareng is right. You need to see a Primary care who can then refer you to a specialist. Chiropractors are doctors, they go to school almost as long as a GP but they are for skeletal and some associated...
  14. Your efforts are to be commended as I know you are trying really hard to figure this all out but I would STRONGLY urge you to see a celiac specialist now and have her tested for other AI diseases. You do not want to mess around missing something like that.......take it from me, I have 4 AI diseases and 3 of them resulted in me having gone so long without...
  15. Ummmmmmm.......that's what I said Stephie. Before anyone further restricts a child's diet any more, they need to go to someone who is well versed on Celiac Disease. Her diet may not be the problem as her DGP is within normal limits and has come down from very high numbers. She has red flags for further AI problems so those need to be investigated before...
  16. He's adorable! The bath thing is a good idea.......being in water reduces the pressure inside and helps to pass any gas. But he needs to see a Celiac specialist and even if they say no, no after testing, try the diet anyway. Testing in young children can be unreliable and that is a known fact. I bet he improves on the gluten-free diet and his belly will...
  17. The OP is not super sensitive so let's use some common sense. She is 6 months into the diet and still has a way to go with healing so the necessary thing to do is cook all your own food for awhile because otherwise, you will slip up and make yourself sick. That is normal for everyone and has nothing to do with sensitivity. At 6 months, there should not...
  18. Gratefulmom...........Yes, you can still keep eating these products because the odds that your daughter has refractory is pretty damn low. You need to look into other AI testing first because her DGP is within normal limits, although it still needs a bit of tweeking which will come in time as she continues healing. I would only go ahead with a more restricted...
  19. If that beautiful, poor little boy doesn't have Celiac, I'll eat my computer screen! He looks like the poster child for it...WTF don't the doctors see? OMG...start getting tough and nasty with these docs so he can get tested and put on a gluten-free diet....PRONTO!
  20. I don't think learning to read a label correctly has anything to do with trust issues. There really is a learning curve with Label Reading 101 and if industry continually screwed it up and had allergens in a food source that was undisclosed, people would be getting sick all the time (and it isn't all about Celiac, either) and that is not happening. Truth...
  21. I just wrote out a long post to you and lost it........ARGH!!!!!!! First things first......https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/105222-slightly-elevated-ttg-after-years-gluten-free/ Here is the thread on Stephanie's son and his tTg issues. We should be hearing from her by this week-end or next week regarding her visit to Dr. Fasano. Your daughter...
  22. One very important question I forgot to ask......did they re-run her DGP to see if she is actually positive on that because that's the test you run for dietary compliance, not the tTg. If that is low negative, then she is not consuming gluten. It's late and I need some sleep but I can let Stephanie know and she can post. I'll see if I can find the topic...
  23. It is a mystery to me why doctors make a big deal out of some things and not so much on others that should concern them. Two and a half years gluten free is long enough for antibodies to hit the normal mark....low normal, where they should be if the diet is followed correctly. Look at the normal range of the tTg test given on the blood work and that should...
  24. The link you found from U of C Celiac center was absolutely correct...all those AI diseases can cause stubborn elevation of tTg levels. I have Hashi's thyroid disease, on top of Celiac, and it took me longer than I wanted for my tTg to come down from high normal range to low normal range after going gluten free. My thyroid was out of control when I was...
  25. Aren't you a vegan, Ken? Or is there such a thing as a meat eating vegan these days? After reading this thread, all I can say is that those of you who fear a gluten hit from plain ground beef bought from a reputable butcher or grocery store with good handling practices, just stop eating it. Or instead of arguing with those trying to give you the...
