ARCHIVED Sign For The Front Door...
Gemini replied to africanqueen99's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well...actually it is. There are too many people who overthink and over worry this stuff. Do you think that kids years ago didn't have food allergies and intolerances that had to be dealt with? We did not use signage, either. Obviously, with small children, you have complete control over what they eat. When other kids come over, they wash their hands... -
ARCHIVED Interesting Article On The Correlation Between Wheat Consumption And Heart Disease
Gemini replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
While I don't pay much attention to studies like this, it is a well known fact that carbs will raise blood sugar and elevated blood sugar, over time, can clog your arteries. In the US, doctors tell people to stay away from bacon and eggs, yet its the carbs that do way more harm to your heart. My brother is a Type 1 diabetic and he was not very vigilant about... -
ARCHIVED Link Between Coeliac And Reynaud's And/or Alpha-1 Anti Trypsin Deficiency?
Gemini replied to KCG91's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't think Reynaud's has anything to do with this type of deficiency, if that's what you meant. Reynaud's is another autoimmune disorder which happens frequently with other AI problems. It's more of an inflammatory problem, stemming from having autoimmune disease. They like company. I have Reynaud's and it was pretty bad before I knew I had Celiac... -

You have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much common sense, Irish! I agree with every word here. No need to worry about anything if you wash your hands before eating. It really is as simple as that. -
ARCHIVED Deep Depression With Pmt Three Months After Glutening
Gemini replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Caroline.....seratonin is made in the gut and many Celiacs will feel a little down for awhile until their gut heals and they can manufacture all these chemicals that stem from the gut that make us feel normal. Are you sure you are very gluten free and not being cc'd somewhere? Continual hits, no matter how small, will make anyone be off balance. Can you... -
ARCHIVED Hyperparathyroidism: Need Insight Into This
Gemini replied to tryme's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome! I do not have a parathyroid problem, just a thyroid problem but I do know someone who did....for all that this information is worth! I have also read up on it as I wanted my husband screened for this problem, due to his having osteopenia. Of course, his dopey doctor refused. What I do know......99% of the time, if there is an adenoma of... -
ARCHIVED Full Work Load, Exhaustion, And Drugs.
Gemini replied to Raywuwei's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please have your thyroid checked because it can cause all the symptoms you are describing. Thyroid disease is very common with Celiac. At 1 1/2 years into the gluten-free diet, you should not be this tired and unfocused so I would look for another underlying cause. Also, have your vitamin levels checked to see if they are within normal, optimal ranges.... -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
Oh....I do agree that all 9 year olds do not cheat but I would be willing to bet that many, many do. How can you not when being 9 is all about being identical to your peers, eating what they eat, doing what they do? It's too bad that so many kids aren't as individual in thinking as we would like but it is what it is. I know nothing about corn intolerance... -

How very common sense and scientific of you, kareng! -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
In the short amount of time spent on this subject, I learned a couple of things. Retainers are very easily scratched so do I need to list the reasons why this would not be good for a Celiac? That could be the problem......food can become trapped in the scratches and dentists warn about this from a bacteria point of view, never mind a gluten related issue... -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
You can choose to believe whatever you want, barty. As I stated, I tend to go with real science, not something posted on one kid. I work in the science field and part of my work is to have knowledge of material science.....like plastics. That certainly does not make me an expert but I have too much common sense to believe this horse pucky. The second... -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
Looks like we are a few of a dying breed, Irish, who still can tell the difference between solid medical evidence and fear tactics used to perpetuate nutty ideas of where people can be glutened. It only feeds further into this notion of super sensitivity that has yet to be proven as fact. I would imagine that retainer material is highly processed and even... -
I second all this advice. The only thing regarding skin care that needs to be gluten-free would be hand lotion because if you slather that on and then eat a sandwich, you could be ingesting some which would cause an actual gluten hit.....not the fake kind like the notion that gluten is absorbed through the skin. Good grief! This man is a doctor with bad...

ARCHIVED Does Gluten Break Down From A Surface After A While?
Gemini replied to BelleVie's topic in Super Sensitive People
No....I'm pretty sure that after reading some posts of late that it's official that I've heard everything but then again, just when you think you've heard the craziest Celiac myth to date, another one comes along and rears it's ugly head. Gluten is not nuclear waste with a half life...... -
It does take a while to gain the weight back so don't panic. I am 5' 4" tall and was down to 94 lbs and now weight in at 110. I really don't want to gain much more because I am sick and tired of replacing clothes....most everyhting I owned had to go to Goodwill and I can't afford to keep doing that! It was 6 months before I gained anything noticeable, though...

Hi Lisa, The ANA test is not specific to any one disease. It is just a very general test for inflammation. I have had elevated ANA for years and it was worse than yours. I also have elevated Rheumatoid Factor but I have no symptoms of anything new, besides the 4 autoimmune diseases that I already have. I have been gluten-free for 8 1/2 years and...

It's official...now I've heard everything. -
I think eating at an IHOP if you have Celiac is far more of a Russian roulette than eating out at a high end restaurant that makes all their food from scratch and understand cc. There are different levels of risk and I still have trouble understanding why anyone would eat at ANY fast food place if they are a diagnosed Celiac. CC is guaranteed at places...

I second this advice! You need to be tested for Sjogren's because ulcers can happen from extreme dry eye. I have Sjogren's but have never worn contacts and do everything possible to avoid eye irritation so never developed ulcers. Ditch the contacts if this is happening and go back to wearing glasses. Glasses are fashionable now! Make sure you see an...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Not Optimistic About New Lifestyle
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anne....you do not owe anyone an apology so stop doing that! You have Celiac and your number one priority is yourself.....not all these other people. You cannot take care of anyone until you take care of yourself and that's what I meant when I said you need to take control and make rules. Actually, that is harder than following a gluten-free diet! My... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Not Optimistic About New Lifestyle
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anne.......I know cyclinglady gave you stellar advice but I have to say something here......you need to start educating yourself on Celiac if you are to lead a normal life. I have to admit I was a bit offended at the notion that you just want something normal so your response was to not eat. Celiac's are normal and we eat normally.....we just eat much...
