ARCHIVED I Want To Move Back
Gemini replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
bartie......time for a credit card, my dear. Baby steps, baby steps........ If you don't like the desert (dry heat) and don't like the snow or humidity, then where else is there to live? Everywhere has one or the other! California has earthquakes.....are you comfortable with that? I was going to suggest Boston because it's VERY gluten-free friendly... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Won't Decrease
Gemini replied to Hermom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The reason I do not go to any GI doctors is because of reasons like this. Oy, Vay! If your daughter's bone density and vitamin numbers are getting better, then she doesn't have refractory. Putting her on steroids she doesn't need will only make her bone density worse, if she takes them longer than 3 months. What are these people thinking??????? ...- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Is It Worth Seeing A Dietician?
Gemini replied to Lexi1989's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lexi, It sounds like you already know what the problem is here. You need to pay attention to cc and read every label to make sure your food is really gluten-free. Get your own toaster and be much more careful about eating out....you can't really eat out all that often as a Celiac or you'll just get sick. Time to tighten up your diet! A few... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Foods! Was Doing So Well!
Gemini replied to Missmtl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Twizzlers have wheat in them and it's clearly marked on the package. Like others have said, you have to read all labels from now on. This will become second nature very quickly so relax! You will get there, even if you feel overwhelmed right now. -
ARCHIVED Shocked And Overwhelmed
Gemini replied to slickdaddy0077's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
While you do have to be exceedingly careful when trying to order food in a Subway, I think you did an outstanding job of concocting a meal that you could safely eat, on the fly. So, you see, you are already thinking like a Celiac, Michael, and will slip into your new life easier than you thought. I would suggest that you order some dining cards before... -
ARCHIVED I Miss Sunday Afternoons And My Bread Machine
Gemini replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Zojirushi breadmakers and those which cater to gluten-free bread making come with 2 paddles for the more difficult to mix gluten-free bread doughs. I think that is their selling point. Either machine made or from scratch, you can make some awesome gluten-free bread but there is a little learning curve.....like everything else gluten-free. -
I am curious, ksee......what misconceptions and misinformation of basic knowledge were you spending all your time trying to correct? The only thread I remember where you became very involved was the thyroid thread. You had some input on that, which was welcome input, but seemed upset that many here do not make use of endocrinologists for their thyroid conditions...

Oh, my ....where to begin? I would never have a husband who would respond that way because I would never pick a husband who behaved like that. We all subconsciously are drawn to certain personality types, most likely shaped from what we learn in our childhood from watching our parent's relationships, and that can work both ways. You can't tell anything...

The relaxi taxi??????? Oh, my...that's a good one! One of my personal emergency food favorites? Peanut butter and fluff sandwich......YUM!

Great post, Addy! I couldn't have said it better than this. This what I love about this forum.....there are still people out there who know the difference between the time to help out and molly-coddle someone new or the time for tough love. That seems to be lost on the "everyone's a victim" crowd. Time for the OP to get control of their life.

Yeah...the bar owners must have stored the ice under the leaky box of Ritz crackers. Good grief...... -
ARCHIVED Got Glutened. Hoping For Some Insight.
Gemini replied to ButtercupSarah's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have only been gluten-free for a month, that alone could be the reason you felt sick. Alcohol is rough on the gut and hard liquor even worse. You may want to refrain from drinking any booze for a bit and give your gut a little more time to heal. Ditto for juices....many are very acidic. Hope you feel better soon! -
ARCHIVED I Miss Sunday Afternoons And My Bread Machine
Gemini replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I gave my Zojirushi bread machine to my sister, who makes gluten-free bread for herself and her daughter. She is more of a bread machine user than I am. My husband makes gluten-free bread fom scratch that is fantastic but he likes doing it that way. I think the Zojirushi makes good bread and it was one of the older machines but designed for gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Renaye......sounds like you do indeed have Celiac and Sjogren's. Both AI diseases can be hard to diagnose and do not always show up on blood work. I have Celiac, Sjogren's, Reynaud's and Hashi's thyroid disease. I also have high ANA and RF but that can be caused by the any or all of my AI problems. However, and this is important, I have been gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You know...I feel like beating up a doctor for you right now. I have had so many of those appointments myself, when I was trying to find out why my stomach hurt so bad after eating and why I couldn't get above 105 pounds, all the while eating like a teenage quarterback. That was the reason my BP skyrocketed the last time because my first visit with my... -
ARCHIVED Help On My Blood Test Results Please?
Gemini replied to Miss-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Taking the anti-fungals might have impacted the results of your tests recently. I am not surprised but angered that doctors STILL have no clue what they are doing with regards to Candida infections. Many refuse to believe that you can have a systemic infection from it because, usually, those kinds of body wide infections happen regularly with HIV patients... -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ohhhhhhhh...the blood pressure problem. MY PCP and I butt heads last time over an issue that she puts too much emphasis on and, of course, she then took my BP. It was 160/100. When I take my BP at home, in the morning, it's always 115-120/60-70. It's harder to maintain good BP at times, once you are post-menopausal. The only time I have a BP problem... -
That would never work because men would NEVER remember to take it or would never consent to having something injected or placed within their bodies! If you don't have the worry of becoming pregnant at all, the drive to get it right is not there......

I second this place! I ate there about 3-4 years ago and would love to take a ride just to have a meal here again. The Cape is so crowded in the summer, I tend to like to go off season. They had an amazing gluten-free menu, served hot rolls while everyone else got their bread and the meal was one of the best I have had, gluten-free, in a restaurant, and...

ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Own Stupidity!
Gemini replied to jamiecasabellameeks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Three months is the infancy stage for being gluten free and there hasn't been one of us that didn't make a mistake like this in the beginning. Lesson learned, you pick up and move on. It takes a while before your brain is trained to automatically go into "check the ingredients before it lands in my mouth" mode, so don't worry about it. You won't be doing... -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Best of luck to you, nvsmom! I give you tons of credit because I also have white coat anxiety but can you blame us? Actually, judging from all your posts on this site, I think some of the doctors might have trouble keeping up with YOU! They are going to be impressed with your knowledge...or feel threatened that you know so much. Let us know how it goes... -

ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies - Just Need To Whine...
Gemini replied to june27's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ha, ha, ha!!!!!! So I have to suffer so they can have a good time? Actually, I feel much, much better than I did 3 weeks ago. My eyes are much less irritated and almost back to normal....for me. It really is the mold that kills them. The pollen aggravation is short lived and affects my throat more than it does my eyes. I was really bothered last... -
ARCHIVED Help On My Blood Test Results Please?
Gemini replied to Miss-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Marie.......the EMA or Endomysial antibody is very specific to celiac disease. It is usually positive or negative so if it came back as a positive, then there is a very strong chance you have Celiac. Were these the only 2 tests they ran? Your symptoms and low iron are another factor in this. They correspond with Celiac. I know you are having the endoscopy... -
Good for you, Kristen! Trust me.....I have been strictly gluten-free for 8 years now and it gets better and better as time goes on. You will ultimately forget you ever ate that thing called gluten. Living in a big city? It ought to be easier for you to find good food to eat. Cities offer many more options. Your anger will subside completely once you...
