ARCHIVED Domino's Gluten Free Pizza
Gemini replied to phillysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a website that may be of help in finding places to treat your son to. There are many places that cater to pizza lovers but personally, Dominio's is not one of them. Cross contamination is a huge problem there. I would also recommend limiting his intake of food not made at home. He won't heal if he goes out to eat too much but you can certainly... -
ARCHIVED One Week Today Our World Changed!
Gemini replied to phillysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Children with Down's are at much higher risk of Celiac Disease. Most doctors do not know this. There is a young woman who works at my eye doctor's office and her younger brother has Down's. He did have stomach problems and his doctor kept saying that was something common to Down's Syndrome.....without ever elaborating why. He probably didn't know of the... -
ARCHIVED My Successful Diet
Gemini replied to Chrisbittner's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad you are seeing some improvement with your diet, Chris. Sometimes you have to strip it down to the basics to feel better but basic food is good food. I agree with the digestive enzymes and I still use them after 8 years gluten-free. They help tremendously, especially with proteins and fats. However, I cannot go that long before bed without eating... -
ARCHIVED Functional Medicine (Trying To Get To The Root Rather Then Treating Symptoms)
Gemini replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Doctors
Good choice, Diana. I have been going to a functional medicine doctor for 25 years for my thyroid and it's the only reason I am doing so well today. She is an MD so it's not quackery. They just choose to look for the root cause of a problem, instead of treating the symptoms with drugs. Not that all drugs are bad, they serve their purpose for some with... -
ARCHIVED Shocked After Modified Food Starch Comment
Gemini replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree, Peter. I have never run across any barley in natural flavoring in 8 years gluten-free. Even in candies where barley may be used as a sweetener, it's never in natural flavorings and always listed in the ingredients. Beer is something where barley may be used but any reputable beer manufacturer who is brewing gluten-free beer does not use barley... -
ARCHIVED Yehuda Kosher Gluten-Free Matzo Crackers - Celiac.com
Gemini replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
julissa......I buy the brownies made by Yehuda as they are available at Passover and they are one of the best gluten-free brownie mixes I have ever had. I am not Jewish, either, yet at Passover, I always look for them because they are that good. I think it's great that they have so many gluten-free stuff for the Jewish holidays. The Whole Foods near to... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten-Free?
Gemini replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The doctor I had who first ran the thyroid testing on me after I asked for them to do so absolutely bristled when I told her I was not interested in taking Synthroid but would rather have a natural supplement. "You would rather have dessicated thyroid from a PIG rather than have pure, clean hormone made in a lab"?????? She insisted the dosing was not... -
ARCHIVED Shocked After Modified Food Starch Comment
Gemini replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If modified food starch contained wheat, it would have to say modified food starch (wheat). Most all food starch in the US is derived from corn but wheat can still be used. Then you would see the wording as above. I have seen a few instances where imported food contained starch with wheat and it was labeled as such. Natural flavorings are so low on... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten-Free?
Gemini replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You are never going to get your thyroid in good range taking Synthroid. I am sure you have already heard that but just taking T4 is not helpful with Hashi's. A TSH of 5 has me struggling to get out of bed in the morning. I suppress my TSH to almost nothing and just go buy my T3/T4. No wonder you still feel off! So many doctors do not treat elevated antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Won't Decrease
Gemini replied to Hermom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad I could help. Yes, the most important thing to do is develop good patience. It took me 3 years to completely get rid of all my symptoms of Celiac so expect a longer recovery with this disease. I had really high numbers like you on testing so improvement does not happen overnight. Good luck with everything!- 25 replies

I think that area was not hit so bad as the wedding is a family member who lives there and they said everything returned to normal shortly after the storm. It's right across the river from Manhattan.

Thank you for the suggestions! I saw some of these listed on another website but was hoping someone would have some expereince on how good or bad they are. Not to worry.....I'll find out soon enough myself. I have to find a place that will keep everyone happy but as the planner that has to accommodate 2 Celiacs, it'll have to be a place that is listed...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Bread
Gemini replied to VeggieGal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I mean, really......they have to get rid of that biopsy as a Gold Standard. It's ridiculous! I can understand your frustration because I did not have the biopsy, either. Refused it because I have other medical issues that would have made it difficult to do plus the thing with sedation. I am one of those people who have a tendency to wake up half way through... -
I see that some are really overthinking this one! It is annoying when dopey people claim to be gluten free when they aren't and especially annoying when they are already thin and go on 1,000/day calorie diets, which is insane. I don't care if people want to eat gluten free but don't like it that I have gotten really dumb comments from people who will never...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Bread
Gemini replied to VeggieGal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's the one! I would check the smaller Sainsbury's anyway to see if they have it. You could also ask them to stock it. Maybe they take requests like that. I know they deliver in the UK because I checked where they deliver to. That would be a good option if it isn't available within a short distance from your home. I wasn't aware that the Rx stuff... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Won't Decrease
Gemini replied to Hermom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi maja, We have another member on this forum who owns a second home in Croatia. She is an exceptional cook so maybe she will chime in with some advice BUT a few things...... The DGP tests for reaction to gluten in the blood stream and you want that number to be as low as possible, within the normal range. Yours is 24 and that is excellent but...- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Bread
Gemini replied to VeggieGal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Genius bread, made in the UK, is awesome. It has been licensed to Glutino in Canada and the US but it isn't the same Genius that I had in London. I know they stock it at Whole Foods market in their London locations but I know they sell it elsewhere too. Check their website and look for locations! It does not contian wheat starch. The brown bread... -
ARCHIVED Eye Drops And Gut Reaction
Gemini replied to flowerqueen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here are some links that will be useful to you: Open Original Shared LinkOpen Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I am in no way a fan of Wiki but in researching this medicine, I found something interesting. Look under "Uses" on the second link and right there, in the first paragraph, there it is.....a reference to wheat intolerance.... -
I totally agree with Bartfull. My blood pressure goes up when I come near a doctor.....the old white coat syndrome. I never, ever totally trust them except my thyroid doc but I have known her for 25 years and she is a gem. Haven't met a PCP that I trust. It all stems from being misdiagnosed by them for 30 years with regards to Celiac. Too many laughed...

Have you had your thyroid checked? I have Hashi's and if my thyroid gets too low, I get joint pain in my fingers. It goes away completely and stays away when my thyoid is in the correct ranges.....which are different for everyone. That could be another reason because yes, 32 is too young for joint pain. That is a symptom of thyroid disease.

ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If all else fails, get some beer or wine! If nothing else, it just makes a person happy to have a little glass of something good. I am not a beer drinker but my husband absolutely loves Green's beer. It's Belgian and pretty strong so you don't have to drink as much. -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Talk Me Down?
Gemini replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good luck, Cali. I am sorry you are sick and have to be sitting in the ER but I think that was a wise choice...and I hate the ER as much as anyone else. keep us posted on how you are doing. -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten-Free?
Gemini replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is common for Hashi's...it can be all over the map until you get it under control but you still can pop "bad" from time to time. It is much harder work for me to control my thyroid than the Celiac. More maintenance involved. My antibodies are continually stable or coming down but my T3/T4 can become wonky sometimes. Doesn't happen often but once in... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten-Free?
Gemini replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hashi's is so common with celiac anyway, and when you go gluten free and all that inflammation starts to subside, thyroid antibodies may go down....way, way down. There isn't always hard evidence of stuff from the AMA because they tend to study diseases that get a lot of press or will kill your faster than Celiac will. I find it best to talk to others and... -
I'm not sure where you live but restaurants are not required to allow people to bring in outside food. They can refuse and it's a health code issue. Personally, if one of my relatives made a point of picking out someplace without the Celiac in mind, I would decline going and go out to eat someplace with my family members who would stand behind this decision...
