ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant
Gemini replied to DutchGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think the number of kids that die from chicken pox today is pretty low. That's extremely rare and we have better medicine to help if things get out of control. I had them and it was just another childhood illness. I also had shingles once but I knew what it was, went immediately to the walk in clinic and was put on anti-virals right away and it was... -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant
Gemini replied to DutchGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
DH takes a long time to go away, unfortunately. It is explained in the book, better than I can do. I think if your scalp and skin are that irritated, it might be a good idea to use a very gentle shampoo and cleanser that is gluten-free, something without perfumes/scent. Keep it simple until the DH is under control. Sorry to hear you are having such a hard... -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant
Gemini replied to DutchGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with the vaccine theory. I do think we need to immunize kids for the basic bad stuff like I was when I was a kid in the 60's BUT kids receive something in the neighborhood of 28 vaccines before they are 2 years old and that is plain insanity. The chicken pox one is a prime example. I think of these as immunity trainers. -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant

One of the best books to read is Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green. He is one the leading researchers/physicians specializing in Celiac Disease and his advice is spot on. It's also a great tutorial on how this disease works and if you don't learn that, you'll never get the diet right. I highly recommend it. One of the things talked... -
ARCHIVED Glutino " Poptarts"
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, my! My husband will be a happy man now! Nothing like a little junk to brighten up your day. Thanks for the review.....now all they have to do is add the frosting. -
ARCHIVED Another Reason To Take Probiotics
Gemini posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link OK......they need to prove this in humans but if it works in animals, many times it works in humans. I found this short article very interesting. -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Coffee
Gemini replied to Tiredsean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What's weird is that levothyroxine is synthetic T4, yet it doesn't affect Synthroid? That's what Synthroid is......levothyroxine. Have I misunderstood? The difference might be that I take Nature-throid, which includes T3. In order to properly absorb Nature-throid and some other natural thyroid meds, you have to chew them a bit and break them up. They... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Coffee
Gemini replied to Tiredsean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think the idea that coffee will interact with thyroid meds and make them ineffective is true, Bart. I have had Hashi's for years and take my thyroid hormone with coffee every morning and I am doing fine. Thyroid numbers are good too, I just had them tested and I have no symptoms of thyroid disease. Coffee is perfectly safe for Celiacs to drink... -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant

Don't listen to Hasselbeck when it comes to Celiac....she's an empty headed celebrity who has been WRONG on many occasions with her supposed knowledge of this disease. Get a book by a real doctor or one recommended by a reputable celiac organization or a veteran celiac who has done their homework. Unless you have habits that will make it easy to ingest... -
ARCHIVED Myths About Gluten In Everyday Non Edible Objects?
Gemini replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Super Sensitive People
Working in a pizza parlor or a bakery or anywhere else where there is a lot of airborn flour will cause a Celiac reaction. Celiac's cannot have these kinds of jobs unless they want to remain sick. You are essentially breathing it in and anything that goes down your nose and throat, or even just sits in your mouth and throat for that matter, is already in... -
ARCHIVED My 82 Year Old Father - Symptoms For Years
Gemini replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your family sounds exactly like mine. My father will turn 80 in April and he is also a lifetime drinker. Not so much now as he is on a boatload of meds but he drank heavily his entire adult life. I am the diagnosed celiac in our family and my father is presenting just like I did...classic celiac. I have a double DQ-2 gene, which means celiac is on BOTH... -
ARCHIVED Living Normally While Battling Celiac Is Like:
Gemini replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
WOW! You sound so angry. Why is it not normal to just eat what you prepare? You think the pioneers crossing the US in covered wagons ponied on up to the Taco Bell drive thru? Not only did they prepare ALL of their own food, they had to kill it or grow it first. I am in a very normal plane of existence. I nearly died from this disease 8 years ago but... -
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that 7 1/2% threshold is going up to, or has already gone up to, 10%, courtesy of Obama Care. So, unless you have 20 children and they all are diagnosed Celiacs, you can forget about this deduction. It's shameful that the US government cares so little about medical costs for everyone and especially those of us who...

ARCHIVED Jello Gelatin, Gluten Free?
Gemini replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kind of funny, isn't it, that people pick apart Jello as if it contains nuclear sludge yet will then eat regularly at a fast food joint or other foods that are known to be nutritionally bad? Your post made me smile, Jami! I love Jello....especially with a little whipped cream! And you are correct about why it is used so widely in hospitals, plus the fact... -
ARCHIVED Been Looking For A Suitable Probiotic...what Do You Think Of This?
Gemini replied to 123glldd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is too much overthinking on the probiotic front, especially considering they have been around for many years. I started taking them 25 years ago and go off them for short periods and then start them up again....much like other supplements. There is no withdrawal whatsoever from them and all I can say is that I notice a difference when I go off of... -
ARCHIVED Claritin Reditabs
Gemini replied to glutengal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I checked into this personally and was told the reason it is not gluten free was because it contains mannitol. This was from a company rep. However, I answered her back that mannitol is gluten free so why would they say that? Never got a straight answer after that. I have used them in the past (last summer) and never had a reaction. I am extremely... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed 'probably Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity'
Gemini replied to DogWalkerNYC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have to comment on the statement made about low Vitamin D and iron being common in a 65 year old.......they are only common in people with bad doctors who are not investigating why these 2 nutrient levels are low. Aging does not automatically mean nutritional deficiencies. These 2 conditions are common to Celiacs and others with malabsortion problems... -
We ended up with somewhere in the region of 28" of snow but really? This was not the worst storm we have ever had and seemed pretty typical of a New England storm when I was a kid. They cleared the roads quickly because no one was on them all night and t hings are back to normal, except most storesand businesses will not re-open until tomorrow. The snow...

Razzle.....have you been tested for diabetes? You say that you are eating carbs and sugar yet still losing weight. That can be a symptom of diabetes. I am sorry to have to bring that up but you sound so miserable....I feel bad about that. We have all been there and it is really hard to remain positive. It doesn't help to have to be forced to pay for health...

ARCHIVED Are Celiacs Only At Risk Of Related Disorders If The Celiac Was Not Diagnosed/is Not Treated?
Gemini replied to L's Mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The main reason that there are so many associated conditions with Celiac Disease is because, if left untreated, your immune system is always in overdrive. It never calms down, which the removal of gluten will do. If your immune system is always in overdrive, it does not stop with just the small intestine, it looks to other tissue to attack. I am at a loss... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Read The Book "wheat Belly"?
Gemini replied to lindalee's topic in Publications & Publicity
Georgie....most people with cardiac issues were put on the Atkins Diet years and years ago and did well because many people with cardiac problems are overweight so cutting out the carbs will make you lose weight. Simple enough logic. Cut out the simple sugars and eat healthier and you'll be healthier. They also used that diet for quick weight loss to... -
ARCHIVED Certified Gluten Free Oats - How Much Is Ok?
Gemini replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have had reactions to certified oats, then you may not be able to tolerate them at all. The protein is very similar to that of wheat and that's why some people cannot eat them. I tolerate them just fine and there is no rule of thumb on quantity. Whatever amounts you tolerate well, then that's what you can eat. Not very scientific but some things... -
ARCHIVED Best Bread And Pasta
Gemini replied to DonnaMM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most do taste pretty bad but not the Canyon Bakehouse. I recommend it to those who have never tried it and are looking for a soft bread that you can make a sandwich with without toasting the bread. It's the only bread I can fool the gluten eaters with. -
ARCHIVED I Feel Way Better And Do Not Want To Get Sick Again For A Blood Test
Gemini replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You do not have to do anything with regards to a formal diagnosis if you feel better and can stick to the diet based on what you have done already. If you do not wish to eat gluten again, tell your doc you have nixed that idea. I wouldn't eat gluten again either...not for anything! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Cholesterol Is Still Too Low.
Gemini replied to c.moriel's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Another area where people are overly worried and there's too much of that going on today. I do not obsess about numbers....ever. I go on how I feel. I have connective tissue disorders but they came from undiagnosed Celiac Disease. Once I started the gluten-free diet, my 4 AI diseases have gotten remarkably better. My testing for inflammation keep going...
