  1. I can only help you with UK based restaurants but there is a chain called Cafe Rouge which has a gluten free menu and a very good one at that. They are good with CC issues and are very knowledgable, in general, of Celiac Disease. I am an extremely sensitive, diagnosed Celiac and have never gotten sick there. Over a few trips I ate there about 5 times. ...
  2. Thank you! This is the attitude to have for healing and a happier life. Works for me!
  3. You like to test people's patience, don't you Kitty? I am here to help others and have done so because they listen to what I and all the other veterans say. We help many more people with better attitudes than yours and they get better and show their appreciation. That makes for a very good day when I can get new Celiacs to see what this really entails...
  4. I have plenty of compassion, Kitty, for people who take responsibiltiy for their actions and don't continually make excuses for their behavior....and then get all defensive when I point out the obvious. Zero common sense? I'm the one who is doing well and going to work every day because I make big efforts to do things right. What part of that don't YOU...
  5. I am not making baseless presumptions at all. Let me tell you what I see and hear on this forum and if I never make another post again, so be it. All these responses are getting old and this needs to be said. I was as sick as it gets when diagnosed. I went my entire life with symptoms and was not diagnosed until I was 46 years old. That's a lot of...
  6. I think that is a very generalized statement to make. There are many, many healed Celiacs that have no problems whatsoever with alcohol. People who come on this forum are just a small sampling of the entire Celiac population. Celiac's can heal and enjoy a normal life....we just need to be gluten free or whatever-free, depending on your other intolerances...
  7. I wouldn't say that I am overly tough. The point I was trying to make, without being judgmental in any way, was if you are feeling that poorly so often, you may need to take a look at your habits and diet and tighten it up a bit. You may still be in the healing process so that might account for some of it. I have been gluten-free 8 years this April and...
  8. Celiac Disease does not go into remission and cannot be cured, I'm afraid. You are the victims of medical negligence and lack of education on the disease. As others have mentioned, your daughter would have had her immune system totally suppressed before a bone marrow transplant and that would have rendered all blood testing useless. If, added to that...
  9. I make it a rule never to call in sick unless I am up all night in the john, with the Big D and vomiting. Then, I'll stay home but that only happens about once every 2-3 years. I am uber careful and don't eat out much. Most all my food I make myself. I think if you are getting sick once a month, you might need to tighten up your diet and not eat out...
  10. I've been to the one in Worcester and they did a good job as far as me not getting sick. I am very, very sensitive and I had nary a problem after eating there. However, although the food was good, I am not used to eating in burger joints or fast food places anymore and the food was a bit heavy for me. I had the fried fish and french fries and my husband...
  11. Listen to Stephanie. Your doctor should also be doing a repeat DGP or the older AGA-IgA/IgG to see if she is reacting to gluten in her blood......repeating the tTg only is the incorrect way to monitor the diet. Doctors make this mistake ALL THE TIME and I have posted this information so many times on this forum, it makes my head spin. Yet, still I see...
  12. Great post, Addy! I think if people are really that terrified or concerned about stuff like this, they need to work on those fear issues and not worry so much about things that are not a concern for even sensitive Celiacs. More education on the science behind it is needed.
  13. Open Original Shared Link This ought to clear up any concerns about safety for Celiacs. You most likely have a topical allergy to one of the ingredients, which is very common.
  14. My thyroid antibodies were 1200 the year before I was diagnosed with Celiac. I already was being treated for Hashi's for many years prior. Nothing seemed to help in making them decline but I was not absorbing the meds due to Celiac. That was 2005. I have been gluten-free for 8 years this Easter and I just had my thyroid panel done and my antibodies are...
  15. Learn to not be so sensitive. There was nothing over the top about my reply and I understood perfectly what you meant. There is gluten free labeling and then there is gluten free reality. In a company like Trader's, which make no claim to be leaders in the gluten-free world, they may have a "G" logo but that does not mean it is gluten free. They are...
  16. My mother looked at me in exasperation one day after I was diagnosed and proclaimed that white bread does NOT contain wheat. Apparently, she was under the assumption that for bread to contain wheat, it had to be brown......whole grain wheat bread. I looked at her and asked what she thought it contained......meringue? I cannot understand how an intelligent...
  17. Boar's Head deli meats are a huge cut above all others. Really good stuff and I am not a big deli meat person. I believe that all Boar's Head products are gluten-free, including their condiments. Not cheap but safe to eat and delicious...there are no grains or fillers in them. Applegate Farms are my second favorite.
  18. Because DH is caused by the internal reaction to gluten and the aggravation to your immune system. If you are getting reactions topically, then you may just have super sensitive skin, which makes sense for those with the skin version of Celiac. Or you may be reacting to something else in the products you are using. I would think that anyone with DH may...
  19. Thanks for the tip but I know I no longer have deficiencies. I have been tested and do have Sjogren's and have all the classic symptoms. Once you trigger for it, it isn't going away. Having dry eye really affects allergies. It has gotten much better since going gluten-free but during allergy season, all bets are off.
  20. Oikos yoghurt is definitely gluten-free. I have been eating it for a long time and I am very sensitive. The gluten-free symbol is extremely small and easily missed but it's there. They have a caramel flavor that is vanilla with a caramel based bottom......tastes just like creme brulee. Yum!
  21. Ahhhhhh.....I see what you want them for. I have to commend you for being so brave in traveling that far while trying to remain gluten free. I think most test kits would not show a result any faster than the 10 minutes but I could be wrong. Can you google it to see what you come up with? I hope you have a nice trip and are able to eat successfully...
  22. For those in the UK here.....glucose syrup is gluten free, even if derived from wheat. It is so highly processed, the gluten content is negligible after processing. This information from the Coeliac UK group. I have been to the UK and have eaten the "Free From" brand before and have never reacted. I am about as sensitive a Celiac as they come and do not...
  23. I think if if you need to go into a restaurant and sit there testing the food they bring out, it might be a good idea to give up eating out. I am uber sensitive and rarely go out to eat but I would never do that. If you pick and choose your restaurants carefully, and develop a relationship with the manager or chef in charge, you shouldn't have to test the...
  24. Why is it that every time you post food stuff, my mouth automaticallty starts to water? I think I have developed a Pavlovian response to your posts!!!!!
  25. How can you possibly expect anyone who isn't a Celiac or gluten free to be experts on this? I am not an expert on the diet to control diabetes or any other range of medical problems. It is up to the individual to learn about their condition and requirements for the diet, not the rest of the world. I see this all the time on this forum. It's fine to ask...
