ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The Lisa's of the world seem to do very well on this diet, don't thery? I feel better and am stronger now than I was in my 20's and that just boggles my mind. I wouldn't have believed I could feel this good after so many years of illness but it happened. The hardest part is getting people to believe that wheat can do all this to people. There has to... -

I hold no grudges against anyone because everyone has bad days. I guess because I have done this so long and have healed well, I get short tempered with those who come across as if this is the worst thing that will ever happen to you and you never get well. The road to wellness with celiac is a long one, there is no denying that. We have incompetent doctors... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten-Free?
Gemini replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
While you are always dispense top notch advice on this forum, especially with regards to thyroid disease, I have to add a comment on thyroid antibody testing. There is a range that is normal for antibodies and like Celiac antibody testing, you will be hard pressed to test for a zero, unless you have no thyroid problems at all. The lab I use is normal for... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband makes the BEST omelets ever...he's gotten quite good at it. However, he doesn't like egg white omelets so doesn't make those. I use these when time is limited...which is often. I was very surprised at how good these are. They can be difficult to keep in stock at my local grocery store.....I think the gluten-free people have discovered them.- 38 replies

ARCHIVED High Test Results In Child W/o Symptoms - Is Biopsy Necessary?
Gemini replied to PLGW2012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a positive EMA (endomysial) test, and those other high numbers, your daughter definitely is a Celiac. The biopsy will just be to see how much damage there is. That many positive tests, checking for reaction to gluten in the bloodstream and some for intestinal damage, are a slam dunk. She is 8...she will heal and do just fine. This is a much easier... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As long as we are reviewing frozen foods, here's one of my favorites: Open Original Shared Link I have only tried the mushroom and feta cheese one but it was delicious......not dry and there is a lot of filling in it. I cook mine in the oven but you can nuke them too. They are low cholesterol, low glycemic, gluten free and high in protein....almost...- 38 replies

ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals

I'll second the thumbs up on the egg rolls. They have a veggie one and a chicken one. I like the chicken. They are really, really good, considering there is no gluten in the egg roll. They are big too, so quite filling.- 38 replies

ARCHIVED Can't Take This Disease Anymore!
Gemini replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It will get better....it will get better.....it will get better. Rice is one of the least allergenic foods out there. Very few people are rice intolerant or allergic. That's why one of the first cereals that are given to infants is rice cereal....easy to digest and pure. I am not a big fan of cereal myself because gluten-free cereal is not very good... -
ARCHIVED Can't Take This Disease Anymore!
Gemini replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As one who had severe fat malabsorption and horrific GI symptoms, I get how bad this is for you. That will take time to get better BUT you really need to be using digestive enzymes because otherwise, you won't be able to eat any fats for awhile until your gut is working better again. Your pancreas is probably not working properly, either, and this would... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Gemini replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I really started to drool bad over the Key Lime Baked Alaska. I really like meringue. Never heard of it with key lime but that'll work. This was an "oinky" fest, Irish, to use another's words. Wish I could be there....we could have had an eating contest. I'm off to have some gingerbread and whipped cream. Not quite Baked Alaska but it'll do....... -
Anyone Been Glutened By Earl Grey Tea?
Gemini replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The tea's in the Tazo line that are questionable are some of the the herbal tea, which I don't drink. Earl Grey is a black tea that is flavored with bergamot, which is citrus.....it's derived from a type of lemon. No problems with gluten. -
Anyone Been Glutened By Earl Grey Tea?
Gemini replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Starbuck's Earl Grey is gluten-free and I drink it all the time. Never had a problem in 8 years and I am one of those sensitive ones. Three months is not long to be gluten-free and even those of us who are gluten-free forever can sometimes drink something that won't agree with us and you are left wondering what the hell happened! The only tea besides... -

I wanted to add that I really do understand your frustration over your ultra limited diet. I did the candida diet twice in my life, pre-Celiac diagnosis and that was a total b%$@# to do. I really did have a systemic candida problem and constantly suffered with bouts of thrush. It was all because of the Celiac I did not know I had and it really disrupted...- 38 replies

ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
julissa......I wasn't going to add anything to this thread because I've had my say and stand behind everything I said BUT.....I am thrilled to death if I have managed to help you get better. I, too, suffered from extreme nausea, dizziness and foggy head so understand totally your concerns with regards to your exercise. But......exercise does help, doesn... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
C'mon, guys.....what the heck are you getting all upset about? Kareng's post made me laugh because there are others who trash processed gluten-free stuff all the time, trying to make people feel guilty for eating them and somehow implying that those of us who can incorporate some processed foods in our diet aren't being stringent with the diet. I've seen...- 38 replies

I love Great Britain. My family heritage is English, Scottish and Irish so I have all bases covered. That's probably why I have Celiac too! I am coming over again this Sept./October for a 2 week trip and can't wait. I love the history and find the people always welcoming and friendly. We will be returning to the Lakes District to hike. It is a gorgeous...

I understand your concern about radiation but it's important to get the Dexa done because bone health is crucial to aging well. You need strong bones so I think the amount of radiation that you will get hit with is minimal. It's not like the x-ray machines of the past....like when I was a kid. What I do myself is base radiation exposure to importance...

ARCHIVED Today My Life Changed Forever
Gemini replied to Phoenix-Sweetheart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry, I am not laughing at the OP's anxiety over this but the decoder ring line just did me in! Phoenix......yes, read the newbie thread and if you have questions, ask away. Relax, it isn't bad at all and food will become happy for you again as you won't be sick anymore. It does take a little while but you will feel better. There is a learning... -
Those are screaming thyroid symptoms so that's probably the issue. Also, if you are working out in the gym, you do need to eat some carbs, in whatever form you can tolerate. They are as essential as protein after a work-out to fuel your body. That might be an added reason you are feeling less energetic. Good luck at the doctor...make sure he does...

So what you are telling me is that I need to fly across the Pond to find a good doctor? It is all about money and it really is the same here in the States and is only going to get worse. I'm happy that you found someone good because I refuse to go to GI docs for anything. They insulted me for too many years trying to get diagnosed and I haven't found...

ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You'll be fine...what a fighter! You'll start to notice some real improvement after the 3 year mark. Enjoy your "easier" time of taking care of the kids. That is a harder job than a full time job with a boss! -
ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When you stop feeling sorry for yourself, maybe we can have a conversation. You are attacking people for stating the obvious and making excuse after excuse for people here that make bad decision after bad decison and then want a pat on the back saying it's not their fault. It's the sad state of society today. I hope you can get past your issues and be... -
ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
Gemini replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please read my remarks about guilt and manipulation, Cali. I am really not PO'd, just annoyed for all the reasons I stated that you are not listening to. If anyone on this forum speaks truthfully and gives constructive criticism where needed, you people have a cow. The OP asked a question about being a wuss when glutened and I answered her. Not my problem... -
I am going to a wedding over Memorial Day week-end here and would greatly appreciate anyone who could give me some recommendations for safe food out. I am still bringing some food with me as we have booked a room with a fridge and microwave but the family will be wanting to go out a couple of nights and if I can steer them to some safer choices for me, that...
