ARCHIVED How Do You Know It Was Gluten?
Gemini replied to Ksee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ksee.......many Celiacs have other allergies and intolerances and I am one of them. I have seasonal allergies to mold and some tree stuff but I did have allergy shots that have helped tremendously so those are better but not gone. It all depends on how bad the levels are outside. This interefers with your digestive tract also and it is not uncommon for...- 12 replies

Amen to this!!! As most savvy celiacs know, it is not impossible to avoid gluten and many more Celiacs heal than those who do not. Only those who seem to be angry and resentful of this diagnosis seem to think otherwise. The only thing Celiac really does is make people eat healthier, which many of those without Celiac should strive to do. I must admit I...

ARCHIVED Is Wine gluten-free?
Gemini replied to KikiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Same here. And I must admit, I drink a glass of wine every night with my dinner. I love my red wine. My antibody tests were pegged when I was diagnosed and my last one came in at a 1...which is as low as humanly possible to achieve. If there were any amount of gluten in wine, this would not be possible. I answered your other post, Kiki, regarding your... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Oats
Gemini replied to VeggieGal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That seems a bit over the top. I eat gluten-free oats and have no issues with them at all. If you ate oats before and your gut is feeling well right now, then have a go at them and see what happens. I hate to phrase it like that because I don't want people sitting around and waiting for something bad to happen afterwards....that serves no purpose. I don... -
I think if someone is homeless, they have bigger things to worry about than obtaining a gluten-free meal they don't know they need.

ARCHIVED What Does Certified Gluten-Free Really Mean?
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kamma.....people can choose to believe whatever they want from reading the vast array of responses presented on this forum. I choose to stick to information that is not founded on information that cannot be proven. If you do not have a lab set up in your home that can detect down to 1 ppm, then you cannot prove there is low level gluten in the suspect food... -
ARCHIVED Another Symptom I Didn't Know I Had
Gemini replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Or it could also be something as simple as enhanced sense of smell once your body has healed. My sense of smell is so acute, I can smell things that no one else can. When there is a Northeast wind here in New England, I can smell the salt in the air and I live an hour inland from the coast. Everyone else thinks I am crazy and can't smell it, until they... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do At A Wedding?
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love postings that radiate gluten free confidence! Irish is correct....this is 2013 and for the most part, caterers and food service people know how to handle gluten free requests. Yes, you have to ask questions to make sure they do everything right but get used to that and you'll do fine. I routinely go away now and eat safely and come back just fine... -
ARCHIVED Is Wine gluten-free?
Gemini replied to KikiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kiki....wine is unequivocably gluten free. This has been discussed many times previously on this forum and I can assure you....wine is gluten-free. Some people may disagree but all the celiac organizations out there....the reputable ones, do not list wine on the forbidden lists and state wine is safe so go ahead and enjoy your Zinfandel. It will not affect... -
ARCHIVED Dental Cleaning Products
Gemini replied to durrsakja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dental products are not a worry so relax! I have had more dental work over the past 25 years than anyone.....root canals, fillings and now dental implants. I think I have had every kind of dental product put in my mouth that there is. Never had a gluten reaction and I am extremely sensitive. I even went so far as to call dental product reps when I was... -
ARCHIVED Still Doing Something Wrong, Levels Came Back To High
Gemini replied to KikiUSA's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kiki..which test for dietary compliance did they repeat on you in which the levels were high? The doctor could have run the wrong test...they do this all the time. If they ran the tTg, that is not the correct test for dietary compliance. tTg can be elevated from other autoimmune problems that may be brewing so it is really necessary to run the DGP or AGA... -
ARCHIVED Dandy Blend Coffee Substitute
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Stephanie....not one person on this thread was unsupportive or rude to ciel. She did not like the answers she got and left in a huff. That was her choice. I hope she calms down and realizes that the information we gave her was good information and comes back here to join in again but that is up to her. As far as cross reactivity for whatever reasons... -
I am so happy I impress someone! It is not hard to go out to eat, once you learn the diet. I do have to admit I live in a great part of the country where Celiac awareness is very high. I have a number of places that do an outstanding job with serving a truly gluten-free meal, free of cc. How do I know? Because I become deathly ill for about 48...

ARCHIVED Rustic Pizza Crust ....napoli Herb
Gemini replied to IrishHeart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's bad enough when the product is horrible but you have to clean the oven too?????? There ought to be a law..... -
ARCHIVED Generic Zocor
Gemini replied to BSVD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
According to the gluten free drug lists out there, name brand Zocor is gluten free but that doesn't help you, does it? I would go back to the pharmacy and ask for an insert so you can read the ingredients list. I guess you could call the company but they are in India so how is that supposed to work? I find this all so annoying. All you need to see is... -
ARCHIVED Dandy Blend Coffee Substitute
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You know, Ciel......whether you read this or not, people who don't like the honest and correct answers they get on this forum when seeking answers, and then go into a snit about it and accusing us of not being supportive are not helping themselves at all. Coffee is absolutely safe for Celiacs to drink, unless you have a caffeine problem like yourself. There... -
ARCHIVED What Does Certified Gluten-Free Really Mean?
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You will become more sensitive as time goes on. That is something which happens a lot with Celiac...if you follow the diet correctly and are strict with it. I would have to read up more on the company in question as I have never had any problems with food that is certified....no matter where the certification came from. I have only seen one company... -
We completely understand! You have not lost your sense of humor about doctors so that is a good sign. I hope you feel better over the week-end!

ARCHIVED Vaccinations For Pneumococcal And Flu ?
Gemini replied to VeggieGal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think if you are prone to pneumonia or the flu which progresses to pneumonia, then it might be wise to have one. I have never had the flu or pneumonia so would not take the vaccine. I am not against vaccines because I do think they serve a good purpose for many diseases BUT I generally only take what I really think I need. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate
Gemini replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Toblerone has only one product which contains a wheat ingredient, which is the Honeycomb version. So, they are basically a shared facility with only one product that is non-gluten-free. As so many Celiac's eat Toblerone without issue and it is listed on many gluten-free candy lists, it could very well be that you had a problem with another ingredient. There... -
I hate to say it but I think if this has been going on for 2 weeks, you need to go to the doctor. It could be many things but you have covered your bases as far as cc is concerned and you keep a gluten-free house. It may have nothing to do with your diet but could be SIBO or any number of things. I will say it will take longer than 2 days of no dairy to...

ARCHIVED What Does Certified Gluten-Free Really Mean?
Gemini replied to Ciel121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Stephanie.....you must know by now that testing to 10ppm's does not mean there is any gluten in a product. Lord knows, this topic has been discussed many times on this forum. There could very well be absolutely no gluten in a product. So, saying that you react to these small levels when you have absolutley no proof to back up your statements as far as... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free & Still Losing Weight
Gemini replied to mattthom77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am another skinny Celiac and was down to 94 pounds at diagnosis. I am only 5' 4" but that's still way underweight for my height. Once I went gluten free, it took me 6 months to actually start gaining weight again. I stabilized within a week but that's how long it took for me to gain anything. You are 27 years old and your metabolism is faster than those... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms But Doctor Doesnt Believe In Food Intolerances
Gemini replied to Jo1977's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need a new doctor. Anyone who told me that I may need psychiatric help because of stomach problems and perceived binge eating would not be getting any more of my business. Sometimes we crave foods that contain vitamins and minerals we are deficient of, without knowing that's the problem. Also for the reasons that cyclinglady stated. Please dump this... -
ARCHIVED Positive Ttg, Negative Ema 6 Year Old
Gemini replied to MaggieK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am never sick, either and my WBC's are always around the low 2's. I used to get sick constantly, pre-Celiac diagnosis but no more! Oh....I can hook you up with some phenomenal pasta. My husband loves it and he is a true pasta lover. You may have to get used to ordering pasta on-line to get the good stuff but I have a contact in NY, an Italian man...
