  1. Dani...there is no reason to fear cooking in someone else's kitchen if you have a dedicated pot/pan to use for your food. Silverware does not need to be dedicated as it's usually stainless and stainless is not porous. I am also extremely sensitive and if you use common sense, it should not pose a problem. Just give the area you are working on a good wipe...
  2. Yeah...I am going to be placing an order for Depuma's soon. I just made up a fresh batch of meatballs and sauce so I'm ready.....
  3. This thread is so funny!!!!!!! Now, sitting here in New England, where DD's started, I can still taste a donut and it's been over 8 years since I had a gluten one. You do realize, Addy, that your address will become a gluten free stop on any Celiac's road tour of the West? I have wanted to come to Utah and now I have an added reason....donuts that are...
  4. The vaccine thing.......someone with babies told me that kids in the US get something like 28 vaccines in their first 2 years. That is insane. Vaccines can be hard on the immune system, if given in many batches at once. I really believe that's why we have a proliferance of mental problems with kids today. The assault on their immune systems must be hard...
  5. I almost had tea coming out my nose on that reply, Kareng......
  6. On, no, no, no, no!!!!!!!!!! Make sure everyone knows that it is your toaster, can only accommodate gluten-free food and if they violate your gluten-free space, they will suffer pain of death. OK..that does sound a bit dramatic, doesn't it? You really need to explain to them that they just cannot use your toaster because you will get sick. Put a...
  7. Actually, it is enough for those of us who study this disease and how it works so we can make informed decisions on what and how we eat. The amount of people who do not return to a normal, functioning life after a diagnosis of Celiac Disease are small, overall, or they have multiple issues/diseases or they haven't learned enough to make good choices regarding...
  8. I don't know how you would be able to do longer rides or more challenging work-outs without carbs. I do weight training and cannot just do whole foods....but I don't need to as I have healed well and am 8 years into the gluten-free diet. Why are you restricting yourself so much? You need carbs to accomplish distances and there are many great gluten-free...
  9. You did not cause any issue, niese. Don't worry about it! You do have a seperate toaster, don't you? That's a biggie.....
  10. niese....1 month is not nearly enough time to see resolution of symptoms, plus you have the added problem of Microscopic Colitis. This occurs often with Celiac Disease. The hallmark of MC is diarrhea and it takes a long time for this to resolve sometimes. I know people with MC and they told me it took months of using an anti-diarrheal to see results. ...
  11. Considering that the U. of Chicago has stated erroneous information regarding hidden sources of gluten, and they are as mainstream medical as it gets in the US, they wouldn't agree with taking any supplements unless they did research on their own. There is very little research on supplements because the AMA want people to take FDA approved drugs only...that...
  12. Autoimmune problems have a tendency to modulate quite dramatically. As nvsmom stated, I have had thyroid testing that went crazy in a very short period of time and it's the same kind of testing....antibody and TSH testing. I would bet that if you tested a number of people with elevated tTg, it would bounce around but doctors rarely do multiple tests, close...
  13. Probably millions of people have a problem and are not willing to give up the bread they eat to find out. They would rather stay sick. FYI...there are many excellent gluten-free breads out there, in case you Jones for a sammy now and again!
  14. I have seen mannitol listed on meds before and companies will either label it as gluten-free or not. I have used allergy meds with mannitol and, considering how sensitive I am to trace amounts of gluten, I have never gotten sick from it. It was either derived from corn or the answer you got was based on true information. There are other products, like...
  15. I agree on the Bi-Aglut and on another fantastic Italian pasta.....Le Veneziane. Open Original Shared Link It is as good, if not slightly better, than the Bi-Aglut. I rank either one as the best I have ever tasted but you have to be able to tolerate corn products. Some people like the rice pasta but it's more a question of texture for me. I have fooled...
  16. Fire Fairy.....the only thing that will happen with this health care change is that they require you to have insurance (crazy) but if you have an existing health care plan now and a doctor, you should still be able to see them as before. No one can force you to undergo testing for anything and it would only matter if you really wanted an official diagnosis...

    ARCHIVED Dental Hell!

I've had just about every dental procedure out there in the past 8 years and did extensive research, speaking with dental reps from the major suppliers of dental products to dental offices in the US and they all confirmed that they are very much aware of the problem of gluten in dental supplies and that they do not use any gluten components in their products...
  18. I think that just means they cannot deny you coverage. People are still being charged a lot more because of certain health issues. But, then again, health insurance is going way up for everyone these days so it's an across the board problem.
  19. Your thyroid plays a roll in the production of red blood cells so if your thyroid is not balanced, you can become anemic from that too. My cousin is a triathlete...she's 57 and kicks butt!
  20. Holy Crap, Batman! Your TPO is 2,000? I thought mine were bad at 1200. I am not trying to scare you but here's what I have learned.....what high antibody levels mean is that your thyroid is under attack from your immune system and is being destroyed. The higher the number, the bigger the assault. What I have done over the past 9 years is to...
  21. Your TSH seems to be swinging a bit if they go from low 2's to mid 4's. That is common for Hashi's. However.......the standards used by many American doctors are old. The newer standard, which many functional medicine doctors use is anything over a 2.5 on the TSH is considered low thyroid and needs treatment. Mine, at diagnosis, was only a 7 and I could...
  22. They should also have done the DGP as that is the one that tests for dietary compliance....I'm the one that is such a pain in the butt about that! If you couple that with the tTg, then you can see if his slightly elevated tTg is from gluten ingestion or it's just taking a little time to get into the normal range. My tTg was around 200 when diagnosed but...
