ARCHIVED Been Told To Avoid Milk, Though I Have No Milk Allergy...
Gemini replied to KnightRobby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can always count on Richard to give straightforward and good advice! I just like the way you communicate.....if it bothers you, don't eat it. If it doesn't, don't worry! I couldn't agree more and this is from a Celiac who cannot drink milk and it's been 7 1/2 years gluten-free for me. -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakery
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Shadowicewolf.....that is a pretty complete listing of their gluten-free stuff. I have not tried many of their products because I do some home baking and prefer to make certain items myself but the Morning Glory muffins are yummy. You have to toast them from a flavor perspective but they are made from quinoa and taste like a carrot muffin. There are carrots... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakery

Their frozen, ready made pie crusts are really, really good. I work full time and have a commute so haven't explored home made gluten-free pie crust making yet but I did make a killer wheat crust back in the day so do know what to do. I make my pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving from the Whole Foods crust and everyone raves about it. It holds together beautifully... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Bakeries - Bit Of A Long Shot!
Gemini replied to zamm0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am in the US but have traveled to Britain quite often. I find the Genius bread is quite good for a store bought bread but, as others have said, fresh baked bread is always the best. Have you tried Genius yet? I like their brown bread. -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakery
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The gluten-free bakery items are located in the freezer section...they do not have an in store gluten-free bakery. They are shipped up from their dedicated facility in North Carolina. I only buy a few of their items as the other stuff they carry I can generally make at home easily enough. Their pie crusts are fantastic and the tart is quite good for a frozen... -
Glad to hear that. You do still have to be careful, as always, but Boston is an easier place to find gluten-free and "most" of the people working in finer dining establishments are savvy to our needs. I am very sensitive and go out to eat in the city about twice a year and haven't had a problem yet. The Registry link is a big help too. Let me know where...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakery
Gemini posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I discovered a new treat in the Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakery line, in the freezer section. They have developed an Apple FrangiPani Tart. The correct way to make this is using almond paste but that is extremely expensive to use in baking so they use almond flour instead and I have to say....it's very, very good! It's not a single serving but a regular... -
Like there isn't enough for you to be thinking about without having all this work related paperwork and planning to do! I worked night shift a long time ago and loved it. It was more in line with my body clock. I then got a fantastic job, which I am still at, but it was day shift. After 30 years, I still hate the day shift but love the job! I know...

Roda....name brand Vicodin is gluten free. I have been using it for dental implant surgery and have had zero issues with it and I am very, very sensitive. It works on pain well without making you too dopey. Actually, you won't get too dopey if used after surgery as all the active ingredient in it will be used to suppress pain.....it will bring you to normal...

As the ANA test is a test for general inflammation, any other AI diseases you may have can increase your inflammation levels. My ANA keeps dropping but ever so slowly. That's fine....as long as it keeps dropping. I understand about sticking with your doctor for now. It is so stressful to find another doctor anywhere and you need to get going with treatment...

ARCHIVED "wow, That's Good!"

I bought the same pan to make bread in, Sylvia, and I love it! Mile high bread! -
Isn't it just criminal how they under treat thyroid disease? If I hadn't found the doctor I have for my thyroid, I would still be a mess after 20 years. And....my PCP keeps b%$@#ing that I am being over medicated and she's supposed to be an expert on thyroid. Yeah, right! I do still swing from time to time..that is, hypo to hyper but that usually...
-
Your welcome! You are not taking enough thyroid hormone so your hair loss and joint pain will just accelerate. 50mcg is nothing. These are in-your-face thyroid symptoms and until you are on the correct dose of hormone, your symptoms will not abate. The T3 and T4 tests are the "free" ones as most doctors never do the "reverse" ones. I am glad...
-
All of the symptoms you are having can be caused by an under treated thyroid problem. I have Hashi's also and have been doing this for 20 years so know the drill pretty well. What you need to do is find a doctor who will give you a T3 thyroid hormone like Armour or Nature-throid because with Hashi's, you really need T3. Forget about using the TSH test...

ARCHIVED What Does Chicken Cost In Your Area?
Gemini replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's it!!!!! I am definitely coming to your house for dinner! -
Hi Terrie! I live outside of Boston and here is the listing of the finer dining places in Quincy Market. I would advise eating at a higher end place because most of the other food places will be hard pressed to serve you gluten-free food. I have eaten at McCormick and Schmick's before and they are a seafood place. They accommodate and I did not get...

ARCHIVED What Does Chicken Cost In Your Area?
Gemini replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't think my reply will count as I shop at Whole Foods. Their prices are high anyway and I don't eat mainstream meats. I love ground buffalo instead of ground hamburger and the cost of fresh ground buffalo is $9.99/lb. As it's only my husband and myself, and we both are gluten-free, I splurge. Whatever agrees with me and tastes good, I buy, until I... -
If it makes you feel any better, those of us who have an official diagnosis get the same crap from friends and family. I remember being incensed with my sister, after I was diagnosed and trying to order a meal in a restaurant, when trying to explain how careful I have to be with CC when the waiter was taking our orders. She gave me that smarmy eye roll and...

ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Vacuum Up Gluten?

That's perfect! Duct tape is just awesome, isn't it? I think Celiac is the only thing duct tape doesn't fix..... -
ARCHIVED Last Ditch Rant.... Con't
Gemini replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know, I know....extremely frustrating. They always seem to want to run way too many tests while your suffering goes on. I am sorry and hope you get some results and what you need to feel better soon! -
ARCHIVED Last Ditch Rant.... Con't
Gemini replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
LittleMel....if you do have a systemic yeast infection, taking these supplements will not get rid of the problem. They may help a bit with gut balance but systemic yeast infections require a strict "no sugar" diet and an anti-fungal medication. These are just the standard supplements people sell to make a lot of money. Natural supplements do not eradicate... -

This is good information and one which I try to tell those with UTI problems. You can also purchase cranberry capsules, which have concentrated cranberry powder, in case cranberry juice is too sweet. I have only ever had one UTI in my life and I did not even need to take an antibiotic as the capsules got rid of it. It works really well. -
ARCHIVED So Exasperated With Lazy People...
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This sounds so familiar....there is always a saboteur in every family! It happens with people trying to quit smoking. There are those who will try and mess with others to keep them smoking....just like food! -
ARCHIVED So Exasperated With Lazy People...
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think this is a bit of a stretch here. How many people actually have a non-functioning oven that lasts more than a couple of weeks? There are salads, like you mentioned, and the good old charcoal grill, if things are tight. Plus, people have more resources to get help nowadays...this isn't the Great Depression. I also do not accept the excuse that... -

While I do agree with some of what you write, I have to sound off, respectfully, about something that really irks me with Americans today. I am not really sure when this happened but Americans go to doctors WAY too much these days. We are doctor obsessed and I just don't get it. I am 53 and when I was a kid, you didn't go running off to doctors for a check...
