Saz replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
They Jelly babies didn't say wheat starch. It was from corn syrup, I checked it out last night and from what I could gather they were ok, still not to sure about the colour flavoring tho. I did notice though that on some packets wich I was also looking at, they didnt have anything listed from wheat in brackets but the allergy statement said that It contained... -

I didn't read the article but I have heard this. Esp if you eat white bread, wich is why we are suposed to be eating grain or brown bread. I was wondering if the same is true for gluten free bread though? -

Are the coles brand jelly babies ok? I'm fine witha product if it says wheat or barley or anything obvious or if there is like a flavouring or thickner that say in brackets derived from wheat. However sometimes it doesn't say what it was from and doesn't say further down on the package that it contains gluten or wheat. Does anyone have a list they could... -

ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free On A Small Budget
Saz replied to SarahTorg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One thing to think about when deciding if you are going to buy the prepackaged gluten-free biscuits and cake mixes is or bake your own is. If you do buy the flours etc will you use them up before they go out of date? The last few weeks I have been buying a lot special made gluten-free stuff (Donuts, Ice cream cones, sweet biscuits) because I wouldn't use... -

Hey. I was wondering if rice noodles are ok? -
Hey. I know that there is a thread for recipies but this slightly different. Basically instead of recipies, here you can post a variation of a food or ingrdient. It could be an unusal pizza topping that you use and others may not think of it a twist on a common pasta dish. I'll go first. Use grated parmessan chesse in your salad, it makes a really...

I was diagnosed when I was 6. For the last 4 years I have been cheating very badly. In the last few months I have been trying very hard try and stick to it. I know I am going to sound like a major major hypocrite but I reccomend not cheating. I started by just occasionaly having a normal sandwich and from there I just kept eating more and more. On the ...

Hey. Sorry it made you fell all yuck. Try not to beat yourself up to much about, Like somone else mentioned the company should really have stated it. I have at time read through an ingredients list and completely missed out the wheat. At least you know and can look out for it in the future. Hope your feeling better. -
Dunno if anyone else will like this, just something I've made up a few times. The amounts are whatever suits your tatse. Chop chicken breast into bite size pieces or strips. Then chop up celerey, capsicum and poatato. Cook in a pan. At the pour some tomato paste or sauce over and stir through. If you use tomato paste I reccomend thining it down with a...

Is there any sort of discussion as to what the meal will be beforehand? I was thinking that if you did all discuss what the meal would be, you could suggest a meal that you can eat, but won't require any special ingredients. For example a for a side something like a potato bake, can be easy to do gluten-free, just dont put any crumbs on the top. An example...

I have found subsitutes for foods that I like, I keep finding more and more. I just polished off a really nice mint cream bisciut, even though I could sorta taste that it wasn't normal, it was still really nice. The other day I got a muffin from Muffin break that is so good. I have pretty much got eating at home under control. I haven't even felt like normal... -

Has anyone tired the chocolate biscuit from the Coffee club? IT a chcoclate biscuit and it has white choc bits in it. I had one the other day really enjoyed it. You could kinda tell that it wasn't normal but like I said I enjoyed it. If you do have it make sure u lean over the plate, the are quite crumbly. Also has anyone tired those cherry tarts from... -

ARCHIVED Those Who Don't Get Big Reactions...
Saz replied to Saz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea the really bad thing about me finding gluten harder to give up is that I was diagnosed when I was 6 and did very well avoiding the stuff untill I was 15. Basically by then my Mum figured I was old enough to make my own decisions, so I think I saw it as a bit of "freedom" (oh the stupid things we think before we know better) I'm just glad that I'm working... -
Hey Well as I've stated before I have to eat ALOT of gluten to get ill and in the last few years was I have been basically being eating as much possible without getting D. ARCHIVED Good Appetizer Recipes?
Saz replied to lizisgf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cheese and Kabana ( I don't know if you can gluten-free in the Us) with rice crackers always go down well, You could also put cheese Kabana and those little onions on toothpicks. I have also books that have biscuits with dips or little bits of food on them, you may be able to find a recipe and trade the biscuits for rice crackers. I wish I had... -
I don't have a specific recipie but you can subsitute the gluten-free biscuits for gluten-free cornflakes. It would make a nice change.

ARCHIVED Australian Gluten Free
Saz replied to midnightjewel40's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I like the Old time Bakery wraps. The brown ones are great, you can fold them without them breaking. The white ones make a nice pizza base but crack more than the Diegos ones when you try to fold them. Has anyone here tried the Leda choc mint bisciuts? They look exactely like a mint slice. I would like to try but thought I'd ask here if any has tired... -
The one about Prince Charles and Prince William not being on the same plane is true. As far as I know this rule also applies to Prince Harry.

ARCHIVED Australian Gluten Free

I completely agree! This is quite a new find for me I am loving it! When I got it the other day they charged me for a big pack instead of little one! I didn't notice at first coz I bough other stuff well, but I got them to check and they had same barcodes on the big ones as the little ones! Theres a massive price difference too $26.00 for the big pack... -
As far as driving, Like others have said you will most likely be best to stock up on things before you go. Some of places you make a stop at may be onl quite small and not very gluten-free friendly. Im not sure what part of the reef you are intending to go, but as far as traveling goes be aware that it won't just a few hours to get there. I think it would...
