My sinus infections were bacterial, and caused by swollen sinuses. When I quit eating wheat, almost all of the swelling went away, as did all of the infections. I have an allergy to grasses, though, which wheat is.

ARCHIVED Another Newbie....working Backwards...hypotonia?
plantime replied to noodles mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is an interesting thread to read. I just did a report in biology on hypotonia and its link to Prader-Willi syndrome. It is interesting that it could very well be linked to celiac! -
ARCHIVED Question About Muscle Spasms.....
plantime replied to Lollie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Lollie, these stretches work best for me when my neck and shoulders yank up: 1. Lie on back on bed, tuck chin to chest while pressing back of head into bed, hold for count of 5, release, repeat 5 times. 2. Stand or sit, tip head to left shoulder, put left hand on right side of head while reaching right hand to the floor, hold for count of 15, switch... -
ARCHIVED Noticed Foot Knot/tenderess On Instep At Massage
plantime replied to lindalee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I went to physical therapy for my shoulder, the therapist told me to "pinch massage" the point on my hands where the thumb and forfinger tendon is to relieve headaches. It works so well for me! I make sure to rub deep on my tender points on my feet, the relief that I feel all over is so fantastic! -
I have the same sensitivity with being touched. I just can't stand to have people touch me, it hurts so much! The funny thing is, I can touch others without pain, as in I can lean back against a wall, but don't try to rub my back! My mom once commented that even as a baby, I did not like to be touched. I guess I will mention it to my doc. I just never...

ARCHIVED Question About Muscle Spasms.....

I don't know what causes mine. Being gluten-free does not help them, but physical therapy does. -
ARCHIVED Noticed Foot Knot/tenderess On Instep At Massage
plantime replied to lindalee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have problems with the bottom of my right foot. The plantar fascia runs the length of the bottom of your foot, from heel to toe ball. Sometimes, it will become tender and sore. If that happens, try doing hurdler stretches. It can be caused by tight muscles in the calf. Massaging the plantar fascia at the instep can sometimes be felt in the gut. I... -
Yep, somewhat flat is still flattened. You were at the beginning stages, so hopefully, you will heal fast.

ARCHIVED Newbie Confusion
plantime replied to Ivy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, Benadryl will affect the outcome of your IgE tests. It will cause a false negative reading. I had to be off all of my allergy meds for 10 days before my skin-prick test. A friend's son refused to quit taking his meds for the test, so he couldn't get true results. -
ARCHIVED Who Has Done Weight Watchers?
plantime replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am on Weight Watchers now. I do the Flex plan, as the Core plan has too many foods that I cannot have. 1. I lose between 1/2 and 2 pounds a week, most weeks. 2. Points are a simpler way of counting calories. Activity points are extra calories that you can earn by doing physical activity, such as your walk on the gazelle would have earned you one... -
ARCHIVED Slacking Off Lexipro And Acid And Gerd Returning
plantime replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wasn't aware that Lexapro did anything for acid. I take it for a sleep problem. The doc prescribed 10 mgs a day, which made me sleep constantly. I cut the tablets in half, and 5 mgs works just fine for me! -
Can you get gastro symtoms from something that comes in contact with the skin? YES!! It is not a celiac reaction, the gluten has to be in the gut for that. What you are describing is an allergic reaction. The skin is a mucous membrane, the gut lining is a mucous membrane. The allergen caused your mucous membranes to flare up and have problems, even the...

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Update
plantime replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go to a store that sells herbs, buy some dried Stinging Nettle Leaves (also called just plain dried nettle leaves), and make a poultice out of it. I don't know why it works, but it makes my skin feel much better! -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Many Have Celiac And Sleep Apnea?
plantime replied to Janine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My apnea is "mild, does not require a cpap machine, but does need to be watched, as it could get worse." I was biopsy diagnosed with celiac in 2004. Hopefully, losing weight will help the apnea not progress! -
I had hyperinsulinemia. My doc said the only real way to treat it is to cut back carbs, exercise more, and lose weight. I did that (only lost 10 pounds), and sure enough, the next insulin test shows normal. I'll be having another one in August for follow-up. It seems that diet is the ultimate control to many things that ail the human race!

ARCHIVED Increased Sleep
plantime replied to genicol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like your child is getting ready for a huge growth spurt. I noticed this with all toddlers when I had a home daycare: they always took longer naps for a couple of weeks before outgrowing all of their clothes. Since your toddler has not grown much before being gluten-free, that might very well be what is happening now. -
I had my very first typical gluten reaction the end of March. I thought I was going to die! I almost went to the ER, the diarrhea was so bad, and I was getting so dehydrated! Just keep drinking lots of water, it will help your body to flush out the gluten, so the reaction will stop.

ARCHIVED Activated Charcoal As A Sleep Remedy For Insomniac Celiacs
plantime replied to kendira's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"Charcoal is carbon. (See this Question of the Day for details on how charcoal is made.) Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. According to Encylopedia Britannica: The use of special manufacturing techniques results in highly porous charcoals that have surface areas... -
ARCHIVED Activated Charcoal As A Sleep Remedy For Insomniac Celiacs
plantime replied to kendira's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Activated charcoal and grilling charcoal are not the same thing. -
What are you taking for your joint health? Many of them are gluten-free, using rice and corn for their bases, or plant cellulose. Something I have noticed and am wondering about is that since I started the strengthening exercises for my upper back and chest, my buxom has gotten larger! I have increased almost an entire cup size, while the rest of me is...

ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
plantime replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get my coke from a fountain, never had any problem with it. Usually, the only thing that touches the fountain nozzle is the drink itself. We wash the outside of it by soaking it in soapy water, then rinse and let air dry. No towel, sponge, or cloth is used, as they only cause clogging inside the nozzle, and are really not necessary. FYI: I drank... -
Prayer works wonders when the pain is overwhelming.

For breakfast, I like to eat the previous night's leftovers. I think advertisers and cereal manufacturers are the ones that decided we had to eat cereal for breakfast! I enjoy a good steak and baked potato any time of day! I have an appointment to see my doctor in August, so I will be asking her for a prescription for a TENS unit then. Since I had to...

ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
plantime replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This got my attention. Whenever there is a storm in my area, I get the exact same symptoms. I literally fall off my feet with dizziness. The doc says I am reacting to the change in barometric pressure. I have to lean against something or sit in a chair with a back so as not to fall. Sometimes, it makes me just want to puke. -
My worst spasms occur in my calves and right upper back/shoulder. They yank up so bad, I literally cannot move that part of my body. Hang in there with the pt, I hope it provides you with some relief soon!
