ARCHIVED Hello And A Few Questions
plantime replied to Agent Z's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Subway and Taco Bell are out, McDonald's will work with you. The fries should be out, though, as they get cooked in the same oil as the breaded stuff. I know they say the fries are safe, but I have found too many crumbs from the other fried foods in mine. -
I weighed in this morning, and the scale said I am up 1.5 pounds. My tape measure says I am getting skinnier, but the scale just does not agree! I am starting to journal again, this time I am planning the whole day in advance, and printing out the sheet so I can see what I will be eating.

I take Lexapro for a sleep disorder. Without it, I can't get past the REM stage to deep sleep. It has helped immensely with my anxiety and mood swings, although getting the restorative sleep helps with that, too! My husband has anxiety attacks, so he takes 5-HTP. I tried it, but I'm allergic to the rice powder they use. If you have not had your enzymes...

ARCHIVED Brother Has Celiac, I Was Just Diagnosed With Ibs
plantime replied to reactive's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A CT Scan does not tell the whole story on the health of your gall bladder. I had to have mine out in 2004, and my daughter is still recovering from having hers out at the beginning of the month. CT scans and xrays showed normal gall bladders for both of us, but a hepatobiliary scan reproduced our pain and nausea, so the gall bladders had to come out. ... -
I have done very poorly with my weightloss this week. I have been totally stressed over my kids' surgeries, and eating high-calorie, low nutrient food. It is also time for my period, so I have bloat problems. I have managed not to eat any gluten, though, so I am proud of myself for that!
-
I didn't know bursas could be removed without causing more problems. I hope this surgery helps him!

I had one sinus infection after another. Then I went gluten-free, and almost all of the swelling in my sinuses went away. I haven't had an infection since, thank God! Whenever I get glutened, the first thing that happens is my sinuses swell up again, and no medicine can stop the swelling. That tells me that my sinus problems are in part caused by gluten...

If you think the grooming is causing it, try wearing one of those face masks you can get at the hardware store. I never got those sores until I tried Nasacort for my allergies. Now I get them all the time, so I quit using the Nasacort. I use antibiotic cream and warm salt water for them. Clean them and cream them!

That's why I use the cat's claw and hawthorn berry. They provide nutrients the liver needs, but do not cleanse it or anything like that. Since celiac causes malabsorption, I figured I just needed more of the good stuff!

ARCHIVED Cellulites-has Anyone Had It? Dx Fri Am After High Fevers
plantime replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Judy, my son had cellulitis when he was 6. He almost lost his leg to it. He was stung by a wasp, that's how he got it. You can get it from a pinprick that is not necessarily visible to the eye. If you were out gardening without proper shoes and socks, you probably got it that way. The only way it could be treated for my son was with strong steroids and... -
NSG, one of the things I learned on Weight Watchers is that if I spend a long time eating between 1200 and 1500 cals a day, my metabolism will drop and weightloss will end. Try having what I call a splurge day: eat twice as much as you normally do for one of your meals. If I do this for one meal a week, it shakes up my metabolism and keeps things going...

I have a sluggish liver. My enzymes are low, which is good, but my liver just doesn't work like it should. I have used milk thistle, but it caused painful bowel cramps. I have used dandelion tea, which is bitter, but ok. Now I take cat's claw and hawthorn berry capsules, one of each with each meal. My sides have quit hurting, I have more energy, and...

I went to Joplin, Missouri. Dr. Makdisi did my endoscopy, Dr. Kamfe removed my gall bladder. I can't say how much either of them knows about celiac, though, because I already knew and was on the diet when I went to them about my gall bladder. They just said that since I knew what to do, just do it.

ARCHIVED Another Question For You Veterans
plantime replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One cup of caffeinated beverage after 8 am will keep me up until after 1 am. Other than that, it does not bother me. -
My feet get very clammy and cold. In the wintertime, I spray them with antiperspirant to stop them from sweating so much. My hands get cold, but I put them in pockets or under my arms.

Since starting this thread, I have lost three pounds. It has been slow going, but following much of the advice I got here, I am doing it. I am following weight watcher's flex plan, and exercising more. I have cut out chocolate, which causes me to feel totally exhausted during the day.
-
I think corn tortillas are a flex item. I am doing flex, and having success with it now. When I tried eating my gluten-free goodies, I was always going way over on points. I have stopped eating most goodies, and now I am losing weight at a slow, steady rate. I also take Lexapro for my sleep problems. I mention the Lexapro because it helps my body to...

plantime replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac can do terrible things to our teeth. I'm glad you were able to get yours fixed! -
ARCHIVED I Must Be Crazy, Or Am I?
plantime replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you need the second opinion for your own self, then eat the gluten and see the doctor. I think it was that you had to eat two slices of bread every day (or the equivalent) for 6 weeks to three months, depending on how much damage you still had. You are not crazy, you are just wanting to double-check your results. -
ARCHIVED Muscle Pinching
plantime replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ow, I'm sorry. That is all I know about it. -
Well how do you like that! I learned something new today!

ARCHIVED Premenstrual Issues....
plantime replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Before doing anything else, I recommend that you see your gynocologist. You have identified this as a menstrual-related problem, and that is your gyno's specialty. -
You could also try stretching your neck muscles. I get pain in my lower jaw, and finally found out that the pain in my jaw, ear, and shoulder was all caused my spasmed muscles in my neck. Stretches relieved the pain in the most miraculous way!

ARCHIVED Muscle Pinching
plantime replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm trying to picture this in my mind as I raise and lower my left arm. If a nerve is being pinched and causing the pain, can you stretch and relieve the pressure on the nerve? Have you ever had a dislocated shoulder, could it be slipping a bit at the joint? My right knee will feel like there is tissue caught in the joint sometimes, does it feel like that... -
ARCHIVED Wow $ Of Xanthum Gum
plantime replied to Texas Celiac's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think what you paid for the gum is just about average. The advantage is that it takes very little, so what you bought will go a long way. I cut the cost of my food by going to mainly meats, fruits, and veggies, and very little ready-made and bread-type foods. Sometimes I miss the breads and cookies, but never bad enough to actually make some!
