ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer
almostnrn replied to pegom1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My vote is for the Bards as well but I've heard the New Grist is pretty good too. If you like the heavier taste of an import (I would compare Bards to Bass ale) you will like it too! I haven't had a beer for so long. I rarely drink as it is and was tired of carrying in the hard stuff everytime we went to a get-together....it was everything I had hoped... -
ARCHIVED Glutino´s Amazing Products
almostnrn replied to vanesonica's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
THey have spinich and feta pizza??!! I'll have to request that one, I've only been able to find the cheese. I was just getting ready to add that to the list of yummy Glutino stuff. Its not quite regular pizza but more like the regular frozen kind and its the first I"ve found that is palatable. -
Christian and CMCM, thanks for the heads up on Casien. I'm wondering if that is something I should look into even though I have never had any problems (as far as noticeable affects) with cheese and use it fairly frequently. I will read up on it for sure though!

ARCHIVED Coping With Celiac Disease Emotionally
almostnrn replied to Sissy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sissy, I can totally feel your pain, I've been there. At first walking through a grocery store is horrible because there are so many things you feel like you can't eat. I can't tell you how many times I walked out of a store and sat in my car wanting to just cry. IT DOES GET BETTER!!! There are lots of regular brands out there that are ok for us to eat... -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream

Ben and Jerry's is ok with the exeption of the obvious things...cookie dough, brownie, etc....I hope I caught you in time! -
Don't be discouraged!!! I grew up in Wooster and recently moved to Kettering which is just south of Dayton. The best resource for you to tap into there is the Mustard Seed Market. There is one in Akron and I'm pretty sure there is one in Cleveland as well. They have lots of gluten-free products and some great fresh baked items too. Also there are alot...

How are you feeling? I'm hoping you will continue to be ok and not have too serious of a reaction. I did this once or twice shortly after I started the gluten-free diet but have not done so intentionally since my EGD this past summer when they made me eat the stuff. I think quitting a gluten filled diet can be as difficult for some as quitting smoking...

When I had to "load up" on gluten for my EGD I began having chronic cluster migranes. I hadn't had this happen since I was a kid and needless to say was less than excited by it. I loose vision prior to a migrane starting and the only difference for this new onset was that my vision didn't exactly clear up or go back to normal, I still had spots or I think...

Wonderful information indeed!! I guess the farther I get into my gluten free journey the more I realize I have so much to learn. This message board has been an invaluable resource for me, not just for learning new things like recipes, good products to use and such but the sheer knowledge everyone on here has about celiac and the gluten-free lifestyle. ...

ARCHIVED Review Of Sterk's Gluten Free Italian Bread And Hamburger Buns
almostnrn replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the input on the taste and my husband thanks you in advance for saving him some cash on MORE bread or buns I throw away...hee hee, I'm just kidding. -
Definately get your thyroid tested. Its easy...just a little blood test. My thyroid crashed and I was exhausted, depressed and in a nutshell a mess. I'm not sure about the pain you mentioned as I didn't have that but I'm wondering if maybe there is a link between the lymph node there and getting glutened. It would make sense that there would be an inflammitory...

You are soooo right about that. I lost my mom this year to cancer. She was way too young and too wonderful to go through what she did. When she was still alive it was unbelieveably easy to keep my "illness" in perspective. Although, we used to laugh all the time that she could eat any and everything she wanted and wouldn't and I wanted to do that but...

ARCHIVED Allergic To Wheat & Gluten But Not Celiac?
almostnrn replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The reason my doctor insisted on doing and EGD was to determine if I had that type of thing. He said it is possible (but not probable) that I could react to gluten with DH but not have any intestinal damage. As it turns out, not even close to the situation but for a little while I had fun creating all kinds of ways to deal with the rash so I could eat a... -
Thanks to all of you for commenting. The bread is now in the trash . I spoke with the gentleman who started the company and it is indeed a dedicated facility and guaranteed gluten-free. He was a retired baker and his grandson was diagnosed with celiac. The family was concerned because he wouldn't eat any of the current breads out there so they started...

I am so aggrivated right now with this disease. A couple of weeks ago my DH flared pretty bad (the cause is still kind of a mystery to me) which only seems to happen to me with large and consistant quantities of gluten, prior to that I had been good as gold for quite some time. Thought I had it all under control until this week. I went to my first celiac...

ARCHIVED Completely New To Gluten Free Diet
almostnrn replied to alexschatzi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you haven't found it already there is a great string running in Gluten free foods, products section. Its everyone's favorite foods and man I wish I had found that when I was first diagnosed. Good luck! -
Your post has made me so happy!!! My husband and I were talking about taking a cruise but I figured I'd be death walking by the time I returned. I cruised with Royal Carribean once before and swore I'd never go on another line...your experience has cinched it for me!!! Glad you had fun!

ARCHIVED Quick Food Question
almostnrn replied to almostnrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the imput, and I will definately remember the buttermilk trick because I rarely use a whole container either. I needed the powder for a few recipes for biscuits and dumplings....two things I miss terribly. -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Favorite Naturally Gluten Free Foods?
almostnrn replied to Mtndog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I first went gluten-free it was back to hard core basics...meat and a carb (yippee for rice and potatos) and fresh veggies. But my all time favorite when I wanted to feel like I was eating the old food is as follows: In a little olive oil cook up some shrimp, fresh garlic and parsley.....toss into Tinkyada penne pasta and top with some fresh grated... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Scream And Have A Meltdown!
almostnrn replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think you are wrong in your thinking...no one should carry on a grudge or haul a bunch of anger around with you however there is what I like to call self-preservation. I wouldn't get short or angry at a diabetic because they wouldn't eat my wedding cake! None of us should be treated poorly because we have strict diet limitations either. -
ARCHIVED Quick Food Question
almostnrn posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know this isn't the right area to post this in but it seems as if more people tend to read the posts in this section. I just got some Frontier brand buttermilk powder. I've not been able to find it anywhere and my dad located it and mailed it to me. The list of ingredients reads (and I"m not joking) Buttermilk. I just called the company and they said... -
Marlene, Oh my, reading these posts have brought tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry that you are going through this right now. I just have a couple of quick things.... 1. Although your heart was broken because you had to leave your missionary work, perhaps it was a good thing because you needed/need really good medical attention, proper foods etc. ...

First of all welcome! I can tell you that I felt like I was going through withdrawl when I quit eating gluten. I craved it, thought about it constantly, etc. After a while, and I"m very sorry I can't remember just how long, that did go away. Maybe a couple of weeks and maybe because I felt so much better. Don't know, but I do quite clearly remember making...

ARCHIVED I Want To Scream And Have A Meltdown!
almostnrn replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh I wish I could give you a big hug! Women can be such catty creatures and sometimes I'm embarrased to be one! First of all, this financial burdon on you is unacceptable. Its not like you are being stingy!!! Now I know why I didn't have anyone but the bride and the groom in my wedding. Funny thing was people were offended that I didn't have a wedding... -
ARCHIVED Positive Test....skin Symptoms Not Typical
almostnrn replied to brizzo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I had spots on my scalp until I gave up my beloved Aveda shampoo which was pretty much like liquid gluten, lol. I have not heard of anyone just getting it in one area but then again if I had a nickel for every time a dermatologist told me "you can't get DH there" I'd be a millionaire. Be happy the diet is working and don't press your luck...I have found...
