ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever False Positive?
sunshinen replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
PS. I got these links from Open Original Shared Link, which seems to have a lot of good links to studies and articles related to celiac. So you can see the data and conclusions of researchers rather than just reading people's opinions. -
ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever False Positive?
sunshinen replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's true that many people with gluten sensitivity have more severe reactions than many with celiac and many need to be just as careful. BUT there are degrees of sensitivity. Many other people are fortunate enough to be able to have some gluten without any negative effects. And unlike celiac, food sensitivities can go away. For example, many of us are sensitive... -

You might also want to try treating for candida overgrowth. It has a lot of these symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever False Positive?
sunshinen replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I too, had tried to go to a very healthy diet before going gluten free. Ironically, I eat much worse in this sense than I did before. And I feel better than I thought imagineable after going gluten free. I do think you should get the gene test. If you have triggered a celiac gene, you really want to know that. I don't think normal fat counts is enough... -
I was glutened last Tuesday. It has been 8 days, and I still am so fatigued I don't want to get up in the morning. And that was a speck of gluten. The craving will go away when you break the cycle. I didn't believe it was possible, but it really does. I definitely believe that you shouldn't have to give up your social life. I second that you should...

Ahhh denial... I'm still working my way out of it. So here's what I have to tell myself on a regular basis and what I tell anyone who tries to make me cheat. "This diet isn't a choice. It isn't optional. It isn't a fad. It is the necessary management of a disease—one that can ultimately kill me if I continue to eat gluten. Trust me, I want to cry when I s...

Oatmeal is controversial, but for practical purposes, out of the question. Grits should be fine. Just check for cross contamination and make sure they haven't added anything bad too them. Can you post a link to the CVS list? Have you tried Open Original Shared Link for bread? It's my favorite.

ARCHIVED Relatives With Intestinal/colon Cancer Or Lymphoma?
sunshinen replied to PeaceAngel22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my father died of lymphocitic leukemia. when his father died of congestive heart failure, the doctor said he thought it was being driven by lymphoma, but my grandfather was dnr and they didn't do any tests. a cousin died of liver/kidney problems, and I've read celiac can be related to that. he was under weight. lots of other things with cousins and such that... -
ARCHIVED How Can You Say That You Have To Be Off Gluten For Months........
sunshinen replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, it really is amazing. I was off gluten three days when the daily migraines I'd been having stopped. That was my main goal and desire. Everything else has been such a wonderful bonus. But I, too, remember that feeling, a few months into going gluten free, where I felt happy again. It is truly amazing just how life changing this diagnosis/diet can be... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Help A Celiac Long Distance?
sunshinen replied to ARK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would encourage the whole family to go gluten free while at the house. If she is this sick, she will need their support, and hopefully they are willing to give it 100%. An exercise that might help is to send a red marker and the list of gluten-containing ingredients. Encourage the family to go through the cupboards together, highlighting the ingredients... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Help A Celiac Long Distance?
sunshinen replied to ARK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she is resisting starting, when she has been told that is the key to getting better, she is still in denial, depression, or just doesn't believe that this really is the answer. So you will have to deal with the psychological issues first. Talk to her. Let her express why she doesn't want to do this. Validate her emotions. On the practical side, I would... -
ARCHIVED Ate Peanuts...
sunshinen replied to Mary Contrary's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep! Peanuts are just really hard to digest to begin with and many people have problems with them, even if they aren't strictly allergic to them. When I first started the diet, I snacked on a nut mix a lot, but I finally figured out that it was the nuts making my stomach hurt all the time because they weren't digesting. So at least for the healing portion... -
ARCHIVED Breaking The Rules
sunshinen replied to Jordanian Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I agree that not having a punishing reminder not to eat gluten would make the diet harder. However, just to clarify, there are many celiacs who have never had any symptoms. These individuals are discovered through random screening and screening done because they have a family member with the disease. And of course, there are also celiacs who were very... -
ARCHIVED Breaking The Rules
sunshinen replied to Jordanian Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is the secondary diseases and conditions you have to worry about and why celiacs are encouraged to never cheat. Because you don't have symptoms, you don't know how often or frequently you are getting accidental gluten, so to intentionally add to that can only make things worse by fueling the autoimmune response. Unfortunately, for celiacs it is the stuff... -
ARCHIVED Very Shakey, Almost Low Blood Sugar Feeling...
sunshinen replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yep. i definitely have hypoglycemia, but in the couple of years before dx/going gluten free, i had started to have low blood sugar symptoms when low blood sugar didn't make any sense (I'd had protein an hour before, and no amount of food/sugar/juice would alleviate the symptoms). I think part of it is that I wasn't actually digesting the fats and proteins... -

ARCHIVED Attack Sent Me To The Er By Ambulance Today!
sunshinen replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, not that severe. But last night I wanted to go to the ER. Not because I felt I was dying, but because the pain was so intense it just seems as if something serious has to be wrong. If it hadn't been for the location of the pain and lack of UTI symptoms, I would have thought it was another kidney infection. But I think I was glutened on Tuesday, so for... -
ARCHIVED Urinary Tract Infection
sunshinen replied to Terrilyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Get some cranberry juice from a health store. You need the real stuff, not the stuff that is mostly sugar. Drink lots of it. This alone has gotten me out of some UTI's. I had them all the time before diagnosis. You might also want to take some probiotics (at least two hours apart from the antibiotics) and some immune boosting supplements. Good luck. These... -
Yes. Absolutely normal. Your body was probably shutting down to begin with, and switching your diet so drastically can be a sort of shock. The good news is, you're going to feel great!! It may take some time, just stick with it. You'll get there.

ARCHIVED Do I Understand This Correctly ?
sunshinen replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it is misleading to state that gluten sensitivity is celiac disease that simply has not progressed to that level of damage. Many people with gluten sensitivity can continue eating gluten and their intestines will never be damaged. They will never develop that autoimmune response, regardless of how bad their immune response is. In fact, if you do not... -
ARCHIVED Do I Understand This Correctly ?
sunshinen replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess my biggest distinction is that there are other food sensitivities that come and go, that are caused by overexposure, environmental issues, stress, or part of some other issue with the body. I would say I am sensitive to milk, but that is getting much better as my intestines/stomach heal, and I look at it as something where as long as I can tolerate... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Adjustment-eating Like Crazy
sunshinen replied to nikki8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I still go through eating phases. Sometimes actual cravings, sometimes just wanting to eat something because I'm tired of staring at everything I can't eat. So I mow down on the chips and rice crackers and rice bread and potatoes... On one hand, all of that sugar and starch could be creating a cyclical craving that just feeds itself and needs to be stopped... -
milk was a killer for me at first. even small amounts would do me in. pain-ful! coffee often causes a burning, ulcer-like feeling. if that's the problem, then you also want to avoid a lot of acidic juices until the irritation heals. digestive enzymes seem to really help me, and okra and cabbage juice are supposed to help heal, as well.

ARCHIVED The Healing Process...
sunshinen replied to MauriceGreene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I would say I am just about where you are. Although, I did feel great fairly soon, within 3-6 months. So I know how good it CAN be, now I just have lots of not-so-great/bad patches I assume are from mistakes. But I also think some of the fatigue and other stuff is candida related. When I first started the gluten-free diet, I was also on a lot of...
