  1. When I was diagnosed I was having migraines everyday that responded to none of the meds. Now I only get them when I make a gluten mistake.
  2. Is Pepto safe/recommended if I tend to have more problems with C than D? Thanks for the tip. I am definitely looking for any painkilling ideas as I don't want to take the usual painkillers such as tylenol or advil that might be harder on the tummy. I'm out of town, so it will be at least Monday till I can see a doctor.
  3. This is killing me. I may have been glutened a week ago, but this is happening after every meal, and I don't think it is gluten-related, though it could be symptoms from last week. Normally the biggest, longest-lasting I've-been-glutened symptom is joint pain, though, and I don't have that. My stomach gets bloated and very painful about 2-3 hours after...
  4. I don't know much about this, but I have read that gluten reactions can cause nerve damage that does not always heal once a gluten-free diet is started. So even symptoms that do not go away on a gluten-free diet may still have stemmed from gluten. But I would say there is always hope. The body's ability to heal can be amazing when it is treated well.
  5. I, too, find I have to have regular bits of good fat and protein throughout the day or I feel like I'm starving. (Avocados, nuts, egg whites, etc.) I'd also suggest a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement to make sure you aren't craving food because you are actually deficient in some nutrients. Green and Yerba Mate teas might help with both metabolism...
  6. I would also question whether you are accidentally still getting gluten. It took me about 6 months to really learn the diet. When I was diagnosed, I had reached the point where it was very hard to bring my sugars back up. I think this is because it gets to where we just aren't absorbing or adequately processing either the fat/proteins that help balance...
  7. I'd call the company and ask if it OK. Chances are it is safe, but it's not worth the risk until you confirm.
  8. I think it is important to understand that this is a physical reaction, a nice big chemical wallop. So don't let people tell you it's all in your head. It is a physical response. Sometimes you can control them, or prevent them from getting worse, through stress relief techniques such as controlled breathing, etc. I agree that it's important to consider...
  9. Not only did I get sick, the waiter was unbelievably rude. (Yes, there was a gluten free food list on their Web site.) But that is going to very waiter to waiter, location to location.
  10. Has anyone tried it? Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Bk Fries

I've eaten BK fries on a few road trips and never had a problem.
  13. Someone posted a Red Lobster, does the whole chain have gluten free menus??
  14. spread far and wide! if we hit 500 markers, i think we have to make a donation to see more than 500 of the markers at a time (I'm not sure how that will work). but I for one, would be happy to donate to the mapping org that hosts/makes the tool if we can make the resource that robust.
  15. Welcome to the club Sam! It all sounds very familiar. When I finally found out I had celiac, I had become so desperate for an answer, I was willing to try ANYTHING. Fortunately, when my doctor said he didn't know what else to try, I found a chiropractor who did, some food tests and ...viola. I wasn't influenced by Elizabeth because I found out before...
  16. Absolutely. Especially when it takes doctors an average of 11-13 years to diagnose. We have to take charge of our own health. If it works, it works. And this is a great place for anyone wanting to eat gluten free to share resources, tips, and experiences.
  17. I have always had a lot of sinus/ear problems. Haven't had an infection since going gluten free. Dairy also is a big player in this for me. I have very bad allergies (3 shots a week) and I think celiac just adds to that with ongoing inflammation and compromised immune system. My sister had been told she had Meniere's disease for several years before she...
  18. One of the hardest things to cope with when I was new, or when I travel is trying to find places to eat. How often have you wished for a map that would show the gluten-free friendly places nearby?? I'm part of another board that uses a map to show where the members are located. And last night, I realized it's a free tool that we can use too. So I thought...
  19. You just have to go in prepared. Call the convention hosts and ask if they can accommodate your dietary needs. Talk to room service and order a safe, packed lunch to be ready in the morning as if you were leaving the hotel for the day. Before leaving your room, pack enough food for the entire day, with twice as many snacks as you would normally take...
  20. Yep. My chest gets blotchy hot pink. I do think it is better now that I'm gluten free. I know I blush in an allergic reaction or migraine aura way. But I also think being gluten free has reduced some of my overall level of anxiety and overall inflammation in the body, and that that has reduced some of the blushing too.
  21. I go with what makes the most sense. If everyone at work is sick, and I can't attribute a glutening to anything, probably just a plain-ol' everyday virus. Hope you feel better soon!
  22. I have to disagree with many of the people in this topic. I don't think such "tests" are intentionally cruel or mean or even idiotic. Disrespectful of what you know to be true about your body... absolutely, but clearly our society has a problem with trusting the individual to know how to take care of themselves. We've bought into the idea that health must...
  23. Yep, there is a whole world of food out there for you. Find a good grocery store with a large fresh produce section, and every week, try to buy something you've never tried before. Think of cooking as an adventure. Buy a vegetarian cookbook and adapt the recipes to be gluten free. (Don't get sucked into the meat replacement stuff as a lot of that has...
  24. I ran out of Pantene and replaced it with an Avalon organics conditioner. I've been feeling worse and worse. This weekend I finally nailed down that it is the conditioner making me sick. I'm going back to Pantene! If anyone has any good organic, gluten-free conditioners for hair in need of lots of detangling, de-frizzing moisture, let me know!! I'd like...
