ARCHIVED Before Diagnosis
wowzer replied to Kaycee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I grew up with a celiac in my house. My little sister was diagnosed when she was about a year old. I still didn't realize that there was so much to this diet until I went on it. I remember she couldn't have ice cream. Of course she was diagnosed 44 years ago. Many things that she basically lived on aren't considered safe now. Of course it seems to be... -
If you buy an over the counter yeast infection cure, make sure you call the number on the box and make sure it is gluten free. I can't remember the name of the company now, but when I called she said that you should call and check every time, because it could contain gluten. I had bought a Target brand one. Of course called after the fact.

I survived the buffet, had some salad with no dressing and fresh fruit. They had the most awesome dessert table. I went and grabbed the fruit before anybody got into all the pies and cakes on the table. So I survived. I just tried to not look at all those desserts. Before gluten free, that would have been a big part of my meal.

I have been on the gluten free diet for a month now. I've seen many improvements. I had just posted that I finally quit itching in the female area a couple of days ago. I spoke too soon, woke up this morning, itching, red and swollen down there. This sure is frustrating. I'm trying to be so careful, but obviously I'm missing something. Can going gluten...

ARCHIVED Stroh's Ice Cream
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Stroh's about my favorite ice cream. I wanted to make sure that it was gluten free. She basically said that they cant' guarantee that all the ingredients they get aren't CC. I checked out the Edy's site. I saw they had many gluten free flavors, but yet in the stores, they don't say gluten free on the package. -
ARCHIVED Something New I've Noticed
wowzer replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have complained about that tingling feeling for years to my doctor. It seems to have gotten better since I started the gluten free diet. It's been one month. He always thought it was because of the sinus infection I had. I still get it once in awhile, so I'm not sure if it is from eating or ingesting gluten that I didn't realize. -
ARCHIVED Newly Obtained Rash In Odd Place
wowzer replied to ashley77's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have had rashes in that area also. Not fun to say the least. My bloodwork for celiac was negative. I was seeing a gynecologist for another female problem. I have had 2 different biopsies there. One came back eczema and the other came back spongiotic dermatitis (they arent' sure what it is). In searching about the spongiotic dermatitis, I found the... -
ARCHIVED Azteca Corn Tortillas
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband found these Azteca corn tortillas in our regular grocery store. The ingredients all looked fine from what I know so far. I just checked there web site and it says they are gluten free. The package doesn't say it, but the web site does. They are very soft and look like a flour tortilla. Wendy -
ARCHIVED Back On Gluten For The Biopsy..i May Die
wowzer replied to Janie*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't get the logic of eating gluten when you are a celiac. It is poison to you body. I don't think it is worth the suffering. It sounds to me like you have something else going on. I would definitely find a better way than eating gluten. I wish you luck. Keep us posted. Wendy -
I just had to pick up my son's car to take it in for repairs. I picked it up from where he works. (Little Caesar's) I had to go into the store to pick up his keys. While driving there I was eating my gluten free bar. My nose started to run and my eye gets this funny wattery feeling. It seems like I've read about someone having these symptoms. I've...

My daughter had erythema nodosum at about your age. On top of it she was pregnant. I hope that you have seen a rheumatologist. Because she was pregnant, she couldn't take anti imflamitory drugs but was put on prednisone. It did leave her with arthritis in her wrists and elbows. Her legs were just covered with those bumps and bruises along with the swollen...

ARCHIVED :( Lost
wowzer replied to katrinamaria's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is very possible that the alcohol that you are consuming contains gluten. I've only been gluten free for only a month, but grew up with a little sister that is a celiac. I know that she gets a potato based vodka that is safe. I know it's hard, since I'm the only one in the house trying to avoid gluten. I would check the alcohol to see it's contents... -
I have been gluten free since the beginning of the year. I've always tended to have dry skin for as long as I can remember. I keep trying different soap, body wash, shampoo. It just seems like everything makes me itch. I have definitely had some benefits from this diet. At least the female area stopped itching. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas...

Just a thought, maybe you should show your friends these posts. It couldn't hurt. I feel sorry for that little baby. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think?
wowzer replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If a six month old baby is reacting that badly to foods, I would just give the baby formula. There is enough nutrition in formula to keep them healthy and growing until they are 4 years old. I wouldn't rush solids. The baby's reactions are saying I'm not ready for this. I didn't start feeding my son solids until he was 9 months old and then took it very... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Swirl Cheese Pie
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You know I did that the first time I made it too. But I like your idea of the all chocolate one, I bet it was yummy. I'm thinking they mean that deep dish pie pan, which of course I don't own one. I'm glad it worked out for you anyway. Wendy -
ARCHIVED Has It Stopped Since Going Gluten-free
wowzer replied to Rusla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is where my itching started almost a year ago. I thought I had a yeast infection, so bought some over the counter stuff. That didn't work or I was allergic to it. Took diflocan and benadryl. Started getting blisters on the creases of my arm and rashes under my arms. The doctor said it looked like poison ivy. Then had the itching bad in the female... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
wowzer replied to Moondanse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I feel your frustration about your doctor. It can be so frustrating. There has to be a doctor out there some where that has knowledge of this. You may want to check at a teaching hospital. I just realized that a doctor I had been seeing for 17 years clearly did not know how to deal with me. I have MRKH which is not related at all to celiac disease.... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Swirl Cheese Pie
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Dear Marlene, I saw someone looking for dairy free cream cheese on another site to make cream cheese frosting. They said that the Tofutti Company makes one called Better Than Cream Cheese. They said there was also a "vegan" type cream cheese too. Hope maybe this helps. Wendy -

wowzer replied to Rook's Mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Swanson's Organic Beef Broth says gluten free right on the front of the package. I don't know about chicken broth though. Wendy -
I wrote them because I had been using the Oil of Olay body wash for sensitive skin with aloe. I discovered that it had gluten in it. Here is their reply: Subject: Thanks for contacting P&G. ARCHIVED St. Ives Products
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wrote St. Ives asking if they had gluten free products. They wrote back letting me know which ones are NOT gluten free. I thought this may be helpful. It has information on the chemicals that are in all sorts of products. It tells you which ones are safer for the environment and some that even cause cancer. It doesn't have so much if you just search gluten free, but if you... -
