ARCHIVED Swollen Itchy Hands-and Swollen Wrists
wowzer replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't think about swollen hands to be a symptom of food allergy. I've been gluten free since the beginning of the year. I almost always wake up with swollen hands. Sometimes worse than others, so it makes sense it had to be from what I ate. I so need to get religious about a food diary. Hope you get feeling better. Wendy -
I'm sorry that you had such a bad day. I hope tomorrow is better.

I did make a shortbread cookie that only had 4 ingredients. I'm still trying to get them to look like the picture I saw. They did taste just fine. Gluten Free Melt-In-Your-Mouth Shortbread 1/2 cup cornstarch 1/2 cup icing sugar (confectioner's) 1 cup rice flour 3/4 cup butter 1. Sift cornstarch, sugar and rice flour together 2. Add butter 3. Mix... -
I was just reading about OAS. It has to do with the instant symptoms you get when you eat a food you are allergic to. The symptoms can be itchy throat, tingling, burning mouth soon after eating certain foods. If I drink orange juice, my throat will itch and eventually I even get blisters in my throat. I do realize I'm dealing with food allergies too....

ARCHIVED Newbie-43 With Osteoporosis
wowzer replied to Suzysliw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't heard about being tested for a vitamin D deficiency. I supposed it could tie into osteoporosis if you think about it. I had no gastric symptoms, but many different skin symptoms over the years. I did get my doctor to do the blood test which came back negative. He did agree that I could still have it. I finally tried the gluten free diet the... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Thinks It's All In My Head
wowzer replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know the feeling. My husband thinks I make up illnesses. It's about a year since I started itching. It jsut seemed to go from one place to another. I've had two biopsies that were eczema and spongiotic dermatitis. I've been treated for all different rashes, eczema, impetego, poison ivy, tested for herpes that was negative. The list goes on. I finally... -
I just checked my dog's shampoo. It has a wonderful oat formula on it. My husband is on the way home from up north with 2 dirty dogs. I will have to go to the store and hopefully find some gluten free dog shampoo. Does anybody know of any that are gluten free?

ARCHIVED Help! What Did I Do Wrong?
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I did use butter. It was unsalted butter, I'm not sure that would make a difference or not. They taste fine, which I guess is all that matters. -
I decided to try to bake these Gluten Free Melt-In-Your Mouth Shortbread cookies. I found the recipe on recipezaar.com. Well my first batch was one big cookie. I do know I measured something wrong, just not sure what. I decided to try again. At least I got a bunch of cookies instead of one. I was careful to meausre everything and follow directions....

ARCHIVED First Post! Advice/empathy Please!
wowzer replied to HannahHannah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know it's hard trying to figure out what to eat at first. Try to think of what you can eat. I'm almost 3 months gluten free here. I finally went to a gluten free bakery and bought some goodies a week ago. I got some soft sugar cookies that remind of the Lofthouse ones. I finally decided to try baking. I made some blueberry muffins last night and I... -
ARCHIVED Have Any Of You Heard Of This?
wowzer replied to es2443's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Erin, Were those bruises bumps at one time? I saw that you said she has lupus. Some of the symptoms remind me of my daughter who had erytherma nodosum. Many different things can set that off. They aren't sure what set my daughter's off. They did check her for lupus because of it. It leaves arthristis in joints. She was pregnant at the time, which... -
I found this Fearns brown rice mix at my local health food store. I tried the muffin recipe and added blueberries. The texture was pretty good. I do think they could have been a little sweeter. It called for honey which I used. I'm still new at the baking gluten free here. I did mix up a batch of shortbread cookies. I'm waiting to bake those next.

ARCHIVED Is This Possible?
wowzer posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son came home from work with a jacket they gave him. I could smell the flour coming. He had to show me a pocket he needed fixed in the jacket. After he left I could feel my left eye get watery and the inside of my nose begin to feel irritated. Is this a possible way to get glutened? I didn't touch him or the jacket. I feel like I've been instantly... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be A Problem

I was originally prescribed the estrogen cream for that reason. I had 2 biopsies in that area. One came back eczema and the other spongiotic dermatitis. I really wonder if it was DH. Both are a blistery rash. The gluten free diet is a possible answer to any of those. I finally went gluten free the beginning of the year. I have a vast improvement, but... -

ARCHIVED Could This Be A Problem
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that Estrace is gluten free. I am on the generic version estrodiol and when the pharmasist called they couldn't guarantee that it was gluten free. My dose was changed, I wonder if there is a difference in the formulation. I am trying to wean off of it. My doctor suggested taking until like June to do it. I've went 2 days now without taking it... -
I bought some liquid hand soap at the Dollar Tree. I was impressed because it didn't have a long list of ingredients. I was reading about vitamin E on this site and it does have it added. I couldn't verify all the ingredients myself. I emailed www.deltabrands.com. I asked if their liquid soaps contained gluten and they wrote me back telling me that none...

Does anyone know of a good soft sugar cookie recipe? I went to a gluten free bakery this past weekend and bought some sugar cookies. They kind of remind me of the Lofthouse Cookies. I would love to be able to make them myself. The bakery isn't around the corner from me.

ARCHIVED My Doc Said I Could Cheat....
wowzer replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My celiac sister came to stay with me for the weekend. She was diagnosed at a year old. She decided to have gluten free waffles, but didn't used the regular toaster. I went to say something and she said I don't worry about that. I was a little stunned. I've only been gluten free since the beginning of the year and know better. I even took her to a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be A Problem
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been trying to figure out what I've been missing. I feel that I'm somehow getting gluten. I checked the gluten free drug list again. I had overlooked a couple. One is my estodiol. I asked the pharmacist and she contacted the company and they can't guarantee that it's gluten free. I know it isn't a drug to just stop cold turkey. I just found out... -
I tend to have sneezing bouts every so often. Next time I get one I'll have to pay closer attention to what may have set it off.
