This is very different than the way my local communtiy college works. The disability office decides if there is a need and the teachers have to comply. I hope everything is granted. -

Lisa, I don't know if this will help but below are some of the disability accomadations available at my son's Community College if the need is there: 1) Note taking service - Someone takes notes in class and types them up and gives them to you. 2) Have someone record the lecture 3) Arrange to have tests taken in the disabilty office. 4) Allow... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know What To Say Anymore Now That I Am Gluten/dairy And Soy Free
Phyllis28 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I simply say "No thank you" assuming this is a casual social contact. I only go into a more detailed explantion when the person is persistant, usually after they are still pushing after the third "No thank you". I very briefly explain that I will get sick if I eat anything with wheat, oats, rye or barley, for you add dairy and soy or you could say multiple... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free In Vienna, Budapest, And Zagreb
Phyllis28 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I don't have any specific information just general advice. I packed a two week supply of Lara Bars, Glutino Bars and Enjoy Life bars when I went to England and Paris for two weeks in 2006. I also packed two loaves of Food for Life Almond Bread. It will only last 4 to 7 days without refrigeration depending on the weather. We had a refrigerator available... -
ARCHIVED Messy Non-celiac Babies/toddlers
Phyllis28 replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Finally Diagnosed, I agree with Ursa Major. There isn't any nutritional value in gluten containing foods that can not be found in a gluten free diet. It is my opinion that people with celiac or gluten intolerance eat a more nutritionally balanced diet than most of the population because we know what is in everything we eat. This is because we eat less... -
ARCHIVED Messy Non-celiac Babies/toddlers
Phyllis28 replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is always best to have a gluten free household, however that is not always feasable. I have a gluten limited household, basically bread and cereal. Since we already had gluten in the house for my husband when my son was a toddler (he is now 19), he ate a lmited amount of gluten at home from the time we introduced it at about 14 months. I also worked... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis, Anything That Might Help?
Phyllis28 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't have any experience with the this. I can only suggest that you look into liquid nutrition products such as Ensure Slimfast, or protein shakes. I know there are other products like this, but I don't have any names. These may or may not help. I hope your DS gets better soon. -
ARCHIVED Mention Of Celiac In "women's Health" - Calls The Disease "trendy"
Phyllis28 replied to hlm34's topic in Publications & Publicity
You might want to include that, rye and barley, and oats also need to be eliminated from a gluten free diet. How about the fact that only 3% of people with celiac are diagnosed so about 1,940,000 are suffering and their long term health is at risk. -
ARCHIVED Nana's No Gluten Cookie Bars
Phyllis28 replied to pumpkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Nana's lemon cookies. The cocoa ones are too dry, in my opinion. I have not had any problems with them. It is easy to grab the gluten cookies though. I did this once but noticed before I ate them. My co-workers were treated to cookies. -
Like you my memories of eating anyway other than gluten free are very very dim after 29 years. I am not even sure there is a light anymore.

ARCHIVED My Husband Just Doesn't Understand
Phyllis28 replied to kali-mist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One coping strategy I used at home to prevent double dipping before my husband got his own sandwich making station outside the kitchen was to buy two kinds food. ARCHIVED Having A Tough Time...
Phyllis28 replied to carecare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I almost always rent a hotel room, condo, cottage or cabin with a kitchen when I travel. If I am traveling by car I bring everything I need including utensils and pots and pans. I premake the main meals, freeze them and put them in a cooler. I also make sure I have lots of gluten free snacks. When we get to our destination we go to the grocery store and... -
When it makes sense I freeze meals in single servings. Examples are Chili or Spaghetti over rice or rice pasta. I use microwave containers that I find at the Container Store with a pop-up hole. See link below: Open Original Shared Link
