ARCHIVED Homemade Soy-free Salad Dressings
Phyllis28 replied to Offthegrid's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with Missy'sMom. Homemade salad dressing is easy. Below is the Salad Dressing I use: 2/3 Sunflower Oil 1/3 Plain Rice Vinegar Salt, Pepper, Ground Oregeno, and Garlic Power to taste. This salad dressing has the advantage of not needing refrigeration. I have this dressing in my purse in a two ounce leakproof bottle. -
ARCHIVED Healed And Never Get Sick
Phyllis28 replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for many years. I get just sick enough to know when I have ingested gluten. If this happens several days in a row I get sicker each day. Everyone is different. -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life
Phyllis28 replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like some to their items and dislike others. I like the snack bars, chocolate chips, chocolate chip cookies and snicker-doodles. I did not care for the granolas very much and did not like the "No Oats" oatmeal cookies at all. Since it it expensive I don't buy a lot of their products. -

Metamucil powder and capsules are gluten free. The waffers are NOT gluten free. Also consider beans. A 1/2 cup of non fat refried beans has 8 grams of fiber.
-
Tupperware also has leak proof 2 oz containers. I have used non leak proof containers and ended up with salad dressing spilled in my purse. If I am unsure of the container I put it in two ziplock sandwich bags.
-
I always bring my own salad dressing in a 2 oz leak proof bottle. I buy these bottles at the Container Store. This eliminates any problems with salad dressing when I eat out.

ARCHIVED Miami International Airport
Phyllis28 replied to mamabear's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
In my opinion all airports have very limited choices. I always assume that I will not be able to find anything to eat beyond security. I pack food for 1 1/2 to two meals. I pack the extra food because sometimes flights are delayed. -

Phyllis28 replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a gluten limited household. Gluten items are cereal, bread, rolls, and Doritos. I buy my son one muffin and one cookie from the bakery each week. Recently, we turned the area where you would put a side board or buffet into a mini kitchen. A small refrigerator, a large kitchen cart with drawers and cupboards, and small microwave. All gluten... -
ARCHIVED Portuguese Wedding Shower
Phyllis28 replied to Energy Seeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In time you will not feel alienated not eating the same food as everyone else. If I am cooking the food is gluten free otherwise I bring my own food and let whoever is providing the food do as they please. This is what works for me but I know other people use different solutions. A possible comprimise for the wedding shower would be to have the Portuguese... -

ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookie Sales
Phyllis28 replied to CtheCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have no objeciton to the Girl Scouts selling cookies. The profits go to a worthy cause. Most of the cookie customers are already purchasing gluten snacks. However, it is my opinion that any Girl Scout family with health concerns relating to the cookies should have available alternatives such as a donation, storing the cookies somewhere else or other... -
