  2. Keep working toward your goals. Another housing option is to rent a room in someone's home.
  3. It's great that you have been able to lower your dosage.
  4. I only use the bread substitutes occasionally. The very few made when I went gluten free were hard to find and not very good. I use corn tortillas and rice cakes.
  5. Bringing this back to the top so more suggestions can be added for this teenager.
  6. In addition to the other posters good advice: You could help your mom find alternative gluten free flour to use in the meals with a little bit of flour. If you post the meal or receipe your mom wants to make on this site, there are plenty of people who can suggest a substitute flour. With people who say "A little won't hurt" and are persistant about...
  7. The only thing I do in the kitchen at work is reheat in the microwave. I wipe down the area in front of the microwave and the buttons on the microwave. I put a papertowel (sometimes more than one) on the bottom of the micorwave. I wash my hands. I put my lunch, which is in a container or on a heavy paper plate, in the microwave and make sure it is covered...

  11. Most employers look upon any education in the field they are hiring in as a positive. Talk to a college counseler about the certification programs available and what job opportunities are opened up with a certificate. Talk to someone who has earned a certificate if you can. You could also, check with employers in your area of interest to get their opinion...

  15. I looked into dry ice also and I agree with Jestgar it was way too much trouble. I do pack food in my check in luggage. If it needs to be kept cold I freeze the food and put pack it in a soft sided lunch box with blue ice. When I am traveling by air I follow the rule if I can't afford to loose it I carry it on. I now have to check some of my cold...
  16. I agree with Eriella, I simply let my blue ice go through security without comment. So far I have simply been able to pick up my carry on luggage after it goes through the scanner and be on my way.
  17. I have a letter from my doctor stating that it is medically necessary for me to have blue ice to keep my food cold. That said; I have actually never had to pull the letter out. I use a partial (three row) piece of a blue ice mat. So far I have gone through security with no problems. My lunch is packed in a Built NY Gourmet Getaway lunch bag, which...
  18. If one of my cats is not eating I put down baby food (meat). Hope your cat feels better.
  19. I have not been through these airports, but most airports have only bottled drinks (soda, water, juice) and possibly fresh whole fruit that is gluten free. I always bring at least a meal and a half and snacks when I am traveling by air. Below are links to the airports you will be traveling through. Memphis airport map below, to enlarge an area click...

  23. I, personally, have not been brave enough to try the "certified gluten free oats". You might consider eliminating oats now and reintroduce certified gluten free oats later.
  24. I keep it real simple. I explain that if I eat any food containing wheat, oats, rye or barley I will get very sick. After this explanation, I answer any questions that may arise.
