  1. Rice flour can be subbed in for some things, but I think the texture is not the same and won't usually work on its own for baking. Then you need a mix of flours. I used to mix up my own, thinking it was cheaper. I don't really think it was, given how little I bake. Now I keep some white or brown rice flour (whatever my current recipe calls for), some...
  2. I just went through this again today. Daughter went to a birthday party at a bowling alley. She said there would be pizza and hotdogs served. Turns out there was no pizza. Just hotdogs and potato chips. Husband took her to the party. I fed her lunch ahead of time and sent her with an allergen free cupcake. Told husband she could eat no pizza. No hotdogs...
  3. It's corn, but it's very bad for you. Plain corn syrup, not so bad. High fructose, very bad!
  4. If you have a soy allergy, you might be able to eat soy lecithin or soybean oil. Or you might not. Or you could simply buy soy free chocolates. Here are two places where you can get them. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link You do have to make sure that the product you buy is also gluten-free because they do sell some gluten containing...
  5. We have vegan and raw vegan restaurants here in this area. Some of the foods will contain soy, sprouted wheat, or other gluten containing foods. So it is important that you mention the celiac to them. Restaurants with salad bars are another option. Of course you must be careful of cross contamination. But I have seen some that were good to put all of...
  6. That's probably it. I get almond butter there. Or I did until my health food store started carrying it.
  7. I am not a celiac, but I do have food allergies. I used to eat very little dairy and eggs until I was diagnosed with diabetes and then I had to cut back on the carbs. No more meals of beans and rice. I started eating cheese as a bedtime snack. Cottage cheese or eggs for breakfast. When we moved to NYC, I didn't like most of the cottage cheese I could...
  8. Ever heard of the RAST test? It's a blood test that tests for food allergens. My mom, daughter and I all had it done. Prior to the test, you fill out some papers about your current diet so they know specifically what to test you for. For instance, none of us eat shellfish so no need to test us for that. Check out the "other" section of this board...
  9. I just don't get some of the responses here. I was a vegetarian for many, many years with no problems. Now that I know of my egg and dairy allerigies I do eat a lot of vegan meals. I do eat some meat now, but mainly when we go out to eat. It's just easier for me to do that when we do, given my food allergies and additional medical problems that affect...
  10. My mom is allergic to chicken. I've heard of people with beef allergies and of course there is the shellfish allergy. That's one of the top 8 allergens!
  11. Take your daughter to a gastroenterologist. It's possible he/she could do an endoscopy to check for gluten damage or may even diagnose her based on symptoms.
  12. My daughter had her appendix out at age 3. Afterwards the Dr. said the appendix was fine but she had Peritonitis. I'm not so sure. After that, more stomach problems. Each time the Dr. (different one) said she had strep and that in small children it often presented itself as a stomach problem. The only things I could get her to eat/drink when she was...
  13. We recently started shopping at Costco. I am very impressed with their produce!
  14. It really depends on the restaurant. Some chains have gluten-free menus. Like PF Changs, Outback, Chilis and a few others. You'll notice in other posts that people do in fact get glutened sometimes at these places. I haven't tried them because daughter and I have additional allergies. We don't have celiac, but she is allergic to wheat and gluten. We...
  15. I find that it gets easier with time. Despite our multiple allergies, I find I *can* buy some pre-made things. So when I have to pack a lunch in a hurry, I can grab some of those things and come up with a lunch. For instance, a single serve packet of Shelton's turkey sticks, salami or lunch meat, an apple, fruit snacks or canned pears, bag of baby carrots...
  16. Yes. I bought those a few weeks back. Made a super quick stir fry with them.
  17. I am doing that right now in my crockpot. Got the broth, chicken and veggies nicely done. Just have to add some pasta.
  18. They make a spaghetti and meatball soup? What is the spaghetti made of? And what would they put in the meatballs as a binder/stretcher, like crumbs or oats?
  19. Ah Kenmore. That makes more sense. The website says Bothell, but when I Mapquested it, it was 12 miles from my house.
  20. Red Bridge beer is gluten free. There may be others. Not really sure since I don't drink.

Or... It could be food allergies. My daughter is allergic to both wheat and gluten. Or... You might have gastroparesis from the diabetes. I do. You might want to see a gastroenterologist. But at least you're feeling better!
  22. These are gluten free. Daughter likes the plain ones better than the chocolate. Open Original Shared Link They are gluten-free but do have a "May contain traces of ___" disclaimer so if you have other allergies, they might not work for you.
  23. You can make a sauce of pureed red peppers, onions and plenty of Italian seasonings. It's not quite the same but it's good.
  24. My gastroenterologist said GERD *is* a symptom of celiac.
