ARCHIVED Family Get Together @ Pizza Place
Juliebove replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We went through this last year or the year before. Can't remember exactly. This place did have some sandwiches and beer battered fries, but we couldn't eat those things either. Literally the only thing we could eat was green salads, minus the croutons. My brother kept pointing things out on the menu to me but they were things we couldn't eat. They refused... -
ARCHIVED Appliances And Utensils
Juliebove replied to LladyLlama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought my daughter her own little refrigerator for containers of things that might possibly get cross contaminated. Like mustard and nut butter. She also has her own shelving unit for her food. One day I will buy her a pantry. It started out with a card table in the corner of the dining room, because that's what we had. Then I bought shelves. But... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want To Feed My Kid
Juliebove replied to StephanieL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter used to love canned green and wax beans. She would eat those every day at least once a day. Now at almost age 12 she no longer likes them. Perhaps got burned out on them. Now she would happily eat canned chicken mixed with rice, raw carrots, cucumbers, apple slices and black olives for every meal. I do try to expand her diet. Tonight I... -
ARCHIVED Need New Ideas For Chicken Mardinade
Juliebove replied to VioletBlue's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My daughter likes her chicken fairly plain. I just add salt, pepper and parsley. She had a salad tonight in a restaurant that had assorted greens, the chicken, some cheese, black beans, corn and green onions. There were tomatoes, but you could leave those off. At home I usually use canned chicken because she likes it. I make a gravy with chicken broth... -
ARCHIVED Sweets
Juliebove replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rice Crispy treats are not gluten free. Glenny's makes some similar things that are gluten free. They come in chocolte or regular. But... They seem to be cross contaminated with peanuts. Daughter had a bad reaction every time she ate them. -
As far as home repairs and the like, I hire people to do that stuff. I am disabled and can't really do it. And because I am disabled, a lot of things around the house that I might ordinarily do, fall on her to do. So she does do a lot of work around here already. She doesn't really have time to do extra work anyway with her dance. She has a break...

ARCHIVED Help With Finding Products
Juliebove replied to LoveHateTragedy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What about things that are naturally gluten free? Like fresh vegetables and fruit, nuts and seeds. -
ARCHIVED Theres Nothing To Eat Around Here!
Juliebove replied to runningcrazy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was a vegetarian, I mostly ate beans and rice or beans and pasta. Popcorn for snacks. Not sure if you can eat popcorn or not. I know people with braces who do, but know others who say they can't. I did have braces as an adult but don't recall being told anything specific except not to chew gum. But then just the other day my daughter's friend... -
We got Garlic Jim's pizza tonight. I ordered the gluten-free one with extra of every kind of cheese they sell because I had read there wasn't much cheese on them. It was very good and got here very fast. But there was one problem. I also ordered two regular pizzas for my husband and they failed to mark the one box gluten-free. I could tell it was the...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Pasta For Cold Pasta Salads?
Juliebove replied to sallyterpsichore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use a tricolored corn and quinoa blend that I get at the health food store. Many people have eaten this salad and everyone has liked it. -
ARCHIVED Pie-Like Cobbler
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks! I have yet to see a pic that looks like that, but I will keep looking. -
ARCHIVED Confused About This Product
Juliebove replied to CVRupp's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I could be wrong but I believe it has been posted about before here that they are made in a dedicated facility. Hmmm... I just looked it up. Although some people claim they are made in a dedicated facility, this site says they are not. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Pie-Like Cobbler
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry. No, not things like that. I should have added that we can't have almonds either. The pie dough isn't sweet. No sugar in it at all. So cookie crumbs wouldn't work. Not that there are any cookies like that we can have. The only ones I know of are Enjoy Life. That wouldn't make for a good texture at all, I don't think. And they would be far... -
I was watching Alton Brown the other night and he was making cobbler. I commented to someone I was talking to online that I had never had cobbler. She commented that it was like pie but easier. I found this odd because all of the recipes I've ever seen (and the one I saw here) have a cake-like topping. I don't like cake so have never tried that type...

ARCHIVED How Strictly Do You Avoid Your Igg Reaction Foods?
Juliebove replied to Chakra2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've had two IGg tests done and so has my daughter. The results did not have things like mild or severe. We avoid all food that show an allergy all together. The Dr. said my egg was the highest one he had ever seen. And I did have severe reactions to eggs. I only knew this because daughter had previously been diagnosed with an egg allergy. So I quit... -
ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
Juliebove replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Any sunbutter products I've tried have been nasty. Daughter loves the Enjoy Life chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies. She also likes the Happy Apple and the Lemon. But keep in mind she does have other food allergies. So when it comes to cookies there aren't many others she can eat. -
ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
Juliebove replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter LOVES the rice starch bread. You can not get it in the stores though. Only from them. We also like the Wylde pretzels, either with salt or poppy seeds. Daughter likes some of their cookies, donuts, and cinnamon rolls. She also likes the cinnamon crackers. So they're not all bad. -
ARCHIVED Ran Into A Non-Gentleman Redneck From Hell
Juliebove replied to conniebky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Could be. I failed to mention that he was glaring at my daughter and I for a long time. We were frightened to get out of the van. We only got out when he disappeared into nowhere. I've learned from past experience that there isn't much you can do for people who are in such a state. You just never know what might set them off and they can easily turn... -

How could a Wheat Chex get in there since they are made in a dedicated facility? -
ARCHIVED College Meal Ideas?
Juliebove replied to Becksabec's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can get precooked rice (various brands) in pouches. This is more expensive than buying dried rice, but certainly more convenient! My daughter often makes a quick meal of this with a can of chicken poured over it. Another quick meal is a green salad with some black olives, a can of chicken and some sesame dressing that we buy at Costco. Hummus is... -
I do live in the Seattle area and things are probably a lot more expensive here than in some other places. Thanks all for the suggestions!

She rarely does anything with her friends that requires money. With all the dance that she does, there is very little time for friends outside of the dance studio. Occasionally we will take friends to a movie but we pay for everyone. There is really no place the kids can go within walking distance here. There are a few shopping centers nearby but no...

Keep in mind that I don't have to avoid gluten. My daughter does. I am diabetic, have food allergies and other health issues. So I do have to watch what I eat. Breakfast: Small bowl of cereal (dry) and some cubes of cheddar cheese. Snack: Part of a bag of popcorn and part of an order of nachos from Target snack bar. Lunch: Nothing. Dinner...

From about age 2 on, I have given my daughter an allowance. I think it started at a quarter, just to teach her how to save. And I worked my way up from there. Currently she gets $5.00 per week. She is 11 but will be 12 next month. She feels she should get more. I am really not sure what is the right amount. I was thinking $6.00. She has gotten $5...

ARCHIVED Ran Into A Non-Gentleman Redneck From Hell
Juliebove replied to conniebky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow! That sounds horrible. My daughter and I have had a couple of scares. One was in the grocery store. Guy behind us started yelling and saying bad things. I'll not really repeat them here. Anyway for some reason he felt he should go ahead of us. Neither of us was buying very much stuff. I just told the clerk to take him first. Why? In my mind...
